I am not a fan of mystery/thrillers unless they have the warp and weft of “literary fiction” more than a genre formula. I do understand that defining such is difficult! (At least for me…) this one bugged me from the first page. I skipped and tested my way through and read the ending, calling it done. #BookClub #ReadICT #ColorinTitle category #DogsofLitsy #EstherFest #whpg #eBook

Started summer with this classic 1st Easy Rawlins in which the ww2 veteran is asked to find a mysterious woman by an obviously dodgy villain. It takes him into the underbelly of LA where violence triggers memories of the war. A great start to a series which noir with reflection on race .I plan to keep reading.

The first book in The Others series is off to a good start! A unique take on humans and supernaturals coexisting in society. Anne Bishop is one of my favorite authors, and she writes relationships very well so I am eager to see where this goes! 🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺

Well hmm. A fast, fun read, advertised as #MiddleGrade (?) on BorrowBox, #SpyFi & with #ColorInTitle. Very James Bond-esque, with lots of gadgets and an inventive storyline. Won‘t pass the Bechdel test any time soon, I‘m feeling kind of old (the author obviously didn‘t grow up with UK public info films. Don‘t play on the train lines, kids!), & some bits were just unnecessary (of course the baddies missed apartheid South Africa!) #bbrc #booked2021

rockpools It did make me laugh in places though, and I particularly enjoyed the barge incident at the start. 3y
Cinfhen Nice choice for color 👍🏻❣️🎉 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Great review! 😳 3y
LibrarianRyan This is a great series. it ages as it goes along. So the first few books are solidly MG, but the newer ones, nope. YA. They did make a movie and an amazon TV show of the first book. 3y

Interesting book, from a Web community and podcast of Black women sharing how books impacted their childhood and youth identities and what it means to be a Black woman reader and writer today. A wide range of perspectives and genres and new writers for me. Having the same audiobook reader for multiple voices didn‘t work well. Like all anthologies, mixed feelings about different articles.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa We read this one with #SheSaid and it worked well with our group. I‘m glad you liked it too. 3y
Cinfhen Thoughtful review!! I haven‘t read this but I did see similar reviews. It‘s true with all collections, some pieces work better or resonate more than others 3y
Singout @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Yes, forgot to say in my review that #SheSaid put me on to it! I‘ve been having bad luck getting those books at the right time, but several of them are on my to-read list. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Singout Well I‘m glad you got to it eventually. It was an interesting read because so many of the contributors were authors themselves, so reading about their experiences (especially with representation) was I thought more forceful as it came up in so many independent essays. 3y
Singout Yes, absolutely. I also appreciated how different genres of literature were discussed. 3y

I saw this on the new shelf at the library and grabbed it because of the #ColorInTitle for #Booked2021. I had no idea what to expect. It was a well-written and tense story of obsession. I don't want to give away too much but I really enjoyed it and read it in a day. @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft

Cinfhen Cool photo!! I‘ve seen this book a lot on BookTube - it‘s getting lots of good buzz!!!! #stacked 💜 3y

I was surprised by how much I really enjoyed this book! I'm not a Matthew McConaughey fan -- not that I dislike him, just a little ambivalent? But this was an incredibly entertaining listen. It made me laugh out loud multiple times (although I'm not sure he's being intentionally funny). It was just what I needed for a hellish commute!

Also, knocks off the #colorintitle prompt for #Booked2021!

Cinfhen I‘m not an uber-fan either, but I‘m definitely going to listen to this one…nice choice😄 3y
