Lonesome Dove: A Novel | Larry McMurtry

Been in a bit of a slump (feels like for the past 3 months!! Nothing has knocked my socks off) so I‘m going to buddy read Lonesome Dove with my fellow Hoarder Elizabeth. Everyone and everyone has proclaimed this to be fantastic. Which scares me because what happens if it‘s not?? 858 pages of pretty small print though 😮 Here I go!!

Bookbuyingaddict How‘s it going ? Also on my TBR inspired to pick it up now after loving 🥰 1883 and 1923 the duttons tv series not started Yellowstone yet 1mo
LiteraryHoarderPenny @Bookbuyingaddict well. I put it aside for now. Wrote up a giant DNF review but it‘s been suggested to try again. I gave 40% of it and read a part that I was so disgusted by and that it was even written and decided to stop. Didn‘t give a shit what happened to these men. But I‘m going to read another book and maybe, maybe we‘ll see, pick it up one more time. 😜 it was slow and painful. 1mo
Bookbuyingaddict Oh dear 😅 that‘s what‘s put me off ! But yet it‘s hailed as the great 👍 American novel , I loved 1883 and 1923 on tv have you watched them ? It‘s inspired me to read it . Try the son by Phillip heyer it‘s brilliant 🤩 1mo

Bookbuyingaddict Ps what happened ? Don‘t mind a spoiler it may help me decide whether to read it or not 🥰 1mo
LiteraryHoarderPenny @Bookbuyingaddict I think I have The Son in audio! I know it‘s so crazy how many say it‘s the best book ever. My friend is continuing to read it and we‘ll see how she does beyond the part I threw in the towel. If she reads past and says it‘s better, I may try and return to it. 1mo
LiteraryHoarderPenny @Bookbuyingaddict a scene with a much secondary character finds himself in a home with an old POS shit man that says he bought some young girl and proceeds to beat her. He says he‘s not getting involved because “shrugs” it‘s not his business and walks out. It‘s a completely unnecessary and gratuitous scene and I questioned why it was even written? What was the purpose of including that? I was very turned off from already not liking it. 1mo

3✨ I was wondering while reading this if I‘ve already read it or if many horse stories are the same. The difference with “The Black Stallion” or other horse stories I‘ve read is this one follows Smoky as he grows, becomes a bronco in rodeos, and ages out of that. The ending is what really excited me for this horse. #Roll100 February

This was book 4 in the series &, somewhere along the way, I read this out of order - prior to my joining GR in 2013🤦🏻‍♀️ That being said, I couldn‘t properly enjoy the story. However, it did serve as a refresher & a reminder that I‘ve spent entirely too long away from the McKettrick family. 🥂to getting reacquainted with some of my favourite cowboys🤠💕

CoverToCoverGirl I loved the first three books in this series. 3mo

Wounded: A Novel | Percival Everett

Pickpick

Percival Everett really is a must read.

Wounded is a modern western about John, a black horse trainer who lives with his uncle in Wyoming. He is tolerated but when a gay man is brutally murdered the atmosphere in town turns grimly. John cannot ignore it. In the mean time his life gets busy with guests on his farm, animals and love.
And all his characters are so fabulous again. I am saying it again: I love Everett!

BarbaraBB @Christine Thank you 💕 4mo
Suet624 This sounds just up my alley. A horse trainer, a farm, animals, love. Come on, Percival! 4mo
BarbaraBB @Suet624 It‘s an oldie (2005) so I guess one of your libraries must have a copy waiting for you! 4mo
Suet624 Well, believe it or not, none of them have it. I just ordered a copy from Blackwells. 4mo

#WeeklyForecast 05/25

On this lazy Sunday I started The Family Experiment, John Marrs‘s most recent book. Next will be one from another author whose backlist I am making my way through. I came upon this cheap edition of this Percival Everett so had no choice but to buy it.
Bury Your Gays is another one from the #ToB25Longlist which is excellent this year.

TrishB Enjoy 😁 4mo
squirrelbrain I hope you like Bury Your Gays! 🤞 Well, I hope you like all of them - you know what I mean! 🤪 4mo
