@Riveted_Reader_Melissa & I were chatting about pumping diverse books more on Litsy after a long string of violent news. She's starting #DiversityMonday, where we make an effort to share diverse reads. I love it & will be joining her. I've also been using these hashtags☝🏼️to promote diverse books & encourage you guys to use them as well to search for & promote diverse reads. Hashtag away! Let's learn together. 🌍✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿

BookishFeminist ✳️ FYI | If you use hashtags in comments, the post will still be searchable. You aren't limited to the 451 characters! 8y

OSChamberlain I really love this because I've been thinking for a while that I really want to find good novels starring LGBTQ characters. As a kid I was closed off to that world so I really want to see it more in literature. 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Great hashtags! So much the better when it's easily searchable! 👍 8y
HardcoverHearts @Riveted_Reader_Melissa and @BookishFeminist : you guys are AMAZING!!!! Seriously! You make me so proud to be an activist and a reader. ✊🏻❤️📚👏🏻 8y

angrylilasian Love this idea! 8y
BookishFeminist @OSChamberlain Yes, agreed! I think we all grow up sheltered in some way and it's so important to learn beyond what we're taught in school because TBH it was likely only part of the story. Also I have tons of LGBT recs if you want them! 8y
BookishFeminist @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Agreed! With our powers combined! 👊🏼 8y
BookishFeminist @HardcoverHearts You are too kind! Seriously it's my pleasure. I can't speak for @Riveted_Reader_Melissa but I'm sure she agrees. You & the rest of Litsy make me proud to be part of this wonderful inclusive community & for being so willing to jump on board with this activist stuff! ❤️✊🏼 8y

WordWaller Love this, and thanks so much for doing it! I caught this right before bed though, so I'll probably be extending the hashtag to other days of the week 😊 8y
OSChamberlain Just took a snapshot. Thanks!!! RIP to my tbr?? More like long live my tbr 😂😂😂 8y
BookishFeminist @WordWaller Of course! And these hashtags are all good whenever. Just figured I'd pump them today bc @Riveted_Reader_Melissa put up her #DiversityMonday post. 😊 you rock for being on board! 8y
BookishFeminist @OSChamberlain LOL that's the spirit! High stacks FTW! 😂 8y
Biljana This is fantastic! Joining! Thanks ❤️ 8y
quirkyreader Well two diversity days are better then one. So now it's #diversityfriday and #diversitymonday. 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @quirkyreader I saw a bunch of #diversityfriday posts about a month ago after a we all watched a lot of horrible news stories, but I hadn't seen much posted under that tag since and I really thought it deserved to be weekly and not just a one time thing. I picked Monday, just because it was the only weekday without a recurring posting theme that I've seen so far. So Monday seemed lonely and I wanted that tag to get a permanent Litsy life. 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @quirkyreader So feel free to use both! The more diversity the better. And if you started #diversityFriday huge thanks for it. If not, huge thanks to whoever created that wonderful idea. 8y
quirkyreader Darn stupid iPad keys. The more open we become to new things the better we all become. So more diversity the better. 🐸🐙 8y
saguarosally #diversityeveryday ? 👍🏻👍🏽👍🏿 8y
BookishFeminist @saguarosally Well yes that's the goal! Lol. We're trying to get folks to specifically think and post about diverse books on Mondays though so it's a concerted effort to remain diverse on a weekly basis. 😊 8y
BookishFeminist @read_diverse_books this is the post announcing the #diversitymonday hashtag- since it didn't seem to catch on we've also been playing with #manystoriesmonday and #multiculturalmonday since those have a catchier ring to them- so feel free to use those too! Can never have enough diverse books 📚📚📚 8y

POLITE REQUEST | Those who've followed me a while know that I brought #WCW (#WomanCrushWednesday) to Litsy. It was brought to my attention that WCW encourages heteronormative privilege & allows straight cisgender folks like me to unintentionally undermine LGBTQIA+ experiences. I looked into it & have decided to use #WWW or #WonderWomanWednesday instead to make Litsy safer for everyone. I encourage you to join me! 💪🏻💪🏼💪🏽💪🏾💪🏿 #ReadWomen

BookishFeminist Thank you @Bibliogeekery for rightfully calling out my cishet privilege when you didn't have to & having an awesome discussion with me. 8y
Chessa Cool, I'm in! 8y
Twocougs From now on that's what I'll use as well! We certainly want everyone to feel included. 8y

BookishFeminist @Chessa Yes! Thank you! 💪🏼 8y
BookishFeminist @Twocougs Thank you! I agree I don't want anyone to feel marginalized here. 8y
Eyelit I'll use that from now on, for sure! 8y
BookishFeminist @Eyelit Awesome, thank you! 💪🏼 8y
TheSpinecrackersBookClub Love this #. Will start to encourage followers from the club to compete in #WCW from next week @BookishFeminist 8y
BookishFeminist @TheSpinecrackersBookClub Thank you so much! That would be awesome. Anyone who is able please spread the word!! 8y
BookishFeminist @CherylDeFranceschi Awesome, thank you!! 💪🏼 8y
TheSpinecrackersBookClub Pleasure. It's a really great iniative 8y
Magslhalliday I'll change my reminder to #www 8y
BookishFeminist @Magslhalliday Awesome, thank you!! 💪🏼 8y
Merethebookgal Yay for Litsy having an edit button! I've only used the hashtag a couple of times so I changed my posts over and will use in the future. Inclusion for all! 8y
BookishFeminist @Merethebookgal You rock! Thank you. 💪🏼💪🏼 8y
Yamich49 Yes!!!! I personally used WCW to recommend bookish women I am also attracted to and would totally date if they ever gave me the time of day! 😉 But, I totally get why other queer folks are bothered by it (the term has been co-opted so much by cishet indiv) so I support this 100%! I'm glad there are so many people on Litsy who want to create a more inclusive environment for everyone. 👍🏾 8y
Laura317 Not sure how #WCW is all that different from #WWW, but I'm in. Love it! 8y
NovelGirl82 Awesome!!! 8y
BookishFeminist @Laura317 the problem is with "woman crush"- it is like saying "no homo" for gay men. It's not intentionally insulting but it's a way of "othering" and further separating same-sex and queer attraction in a society that primarily rewards heterosexual relationships. If hetero folks adopt "woman crush" it downplays those experiences rather than actually including & rewarding them. There's a lot of nuance to it so I hope this helps! 8y
BookishFeminist @Yamich49 exactly! My privilege didn't even let me see the potential problems at first but I only need one person to step up & say that it's potentially harmful. Yay for inclusivity! 💪🏼💪🏼 8y
quirkyreader #WWW here we go. 8y
Megabooks I never participated in IG for these reasons. (I always associate cis straight women saying they have a crush on another woman with cis straight male fantasies. #notallmen) Anyway, I am super psyched to be more inclusive!!! 8y
moranadatter Thanks for that! 😃 8y
BookBerries BEST IDEA!!! 😻 8y
Girl_Power I appreciate both the change of hashtag and the explanation, as I never considered this before. Glad to learn something new. 8y
Laura317 @BookishFeminist Thanks for the explanation. I'm still not fully understanding, but that's ok. I like #WWW and will use that from here on out. 8y
[DELETED] 3323341091 thank you for sharing! 8y
JSW Love this image, love the concept, love the inclusivity. Thanks for listening and changing. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ 8y
brendanmleonard Thanks for this - I agree! I edited my post to reflect the change! 👍🏻 8y
BookishFeminist @NovelGirl82 @quirkyreader @BookBerries @fern Thanks for jumping on board! Y'all rock! 💪🏼 8y
BookishFeminist @kmdartist @fern You guys are welcome! Kudos really goes to @Bibliogeekery for bringing this to my attention & having such a thoughtful discussion with me. 😊 Thanks so much for hoping on board guys! 💪🏼 8y
BookishFeminist @Ebooksandcooks SERIOUSLY. I've never liked the term as used to denote actual attraction/attractiveness between non-queer women, and that's all over Instagram. I know lots of queer people who have no problems with the term but one is enough to merit a change IMO & not perpetuate this stuff. 8y
BookishFeminist @Girl_Power You're welcome! I learned something new too & only wish I'd thought it out before I started this whole shindig on Litsy. But thanks for Bueno open-minded & hopping on board! 💪🏼 8y
BookishFeminist @Laura317 That's okay, it's not the easiest nuance to understand to be honest, but thank you for being open-minded and hopping on board! 💪🏼 8y
BookishFeminist @JSW I do too! It's one of my favorite images. Found it online a while ago & wish I could find where it originated. You're welcome! I just don't want to make folks feel marginalized. Thanks for being open minded & hopping on board with this change! 💪🏼 8y
BookishFeminist @brendanmleonard Awesome! Thanks for hopping on board so quickly! 💪🏼 8y
Bibliogeekery Wow! I'm really so truly moved that our conversation prompted this very thoughtful initiative on your part. I really appreciated your openness in our conversation around this at the time and am impressed by your continued thoughtfulness. Thank you from the bottom of my queer little heart! 💗🌈😀💕👍 8y
Bibliogeekery @BookishFeminist is my #WWW 💪🏽🏹 8y
BookishFeminist @Bibliogeekery You're welcome!! Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention & helping educate me when you didn't have to. I don't want to participate in accidentally marginalizing anyone, especially if I started it! 😳 I really enjoyed our discussion & hope this helps everyone feel more included! 💖💖🌈 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Laura317 So glad it wasn't just me! LOL, I hate being lost and alone, being lost but in good company is so much more fun! 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa For me, I always thought it was a Woman crush, gender of crusher didn't matter. And the way WCW took off I just started chalking it up to Woman Crush Wednesday's altogether, as in take over/rule that day of the week. So thinks for letting me know. See what I miss by avoiding Twitter/Instagram/Etc....the morphing interpretation of the lingo. 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Hey, and while we are at it...any objection to bringing back our diversity reads posts as a regular thing? Maybe make them Monday's since I don't think that weekday is claimed by any reoccurring theme yet? 8y
SoniaC I look forward to our new #WWW posts and will transition to that hashtag. Thank you. 8y
WordWaller This is great! I can't even keep up with every day's hashtag but I was so glad when you started this and I'll definitely be using this from now on. I love it! 8y
WordWaller But waiiiiiiit how do you edit posts? For some reason it's not letting me... 8y
BookishFeminist @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I have absolutely zero objection to that- love how everyone on Litsy just wants to celebrate books every day of the week with different themes 😊 8y
BookishFeminist @SoniaC I'm looking forward to it as well. Thanks for being awesome & adopting it! 💪🏼 8y
BookishFeminist @WordWaller Thanks for being awesome & hopping on board! 💪🏼💪🏼 to edit posts: go to the bottom of each post. On the bottom right corner opposite the ♥️🗯📚 buttons, there are [...] three dots. Click on the dots and it should give you the option to edit posts! 8y
WordWaller @BookishFeminist thank you! I lost it in all the comments 😂 8y
BookishFeminist @Laura317 @Riveted_Reader_Melissa If you guys are interested here's a couple of articles I found on the problems with WCW & perpetuating heteronormativity- they do a much better job explaining it than I do. http://www.xojane.com/issues/what-you-really-mean-when-you-say-you-have-a-girl-c... AND http://everydayfeminism.com/2015/07/what-is-heteronormativity/ AND https://rewriting-the-rules.com/2011/08/17/whats-wrong-with-heteronormativity/ 8y
BookishFeminist @WordWaller 😂 no problem! Hope it helps! 8y
SoniaC @BookishFeminist no worries earlier post edited in the spirit of supporting the change. 8y
BookishFeminist @SoniaC You rock, Sonia. Thank you! 💪🏼 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Thank you so much! I promise I will read them tomorrow, but for now I must sleep... Long day. But just so you know, I already went back and edited my past WCW posts to be WWW posts. So, yay for all of us, and thanks so much for passing in this information to everyone here. 8y
BookishFeminist @Riveted_Reader_Melissa No pressure whatsoever, just if you're interested! It does a better job explaining it, from a queer voice too, which j am not. YOU ROCK for going back and changing them! Thanks for being so open minded and hopping on! 💪🏼💪🏼 8y
erzascarletbookgasm I didn't understand but after reading all the comments here, now I know. Support! 💪 8y
BookishFeminist @erzascarletbookgasm Thanks for going back to read the comments! It's a bit nuanced to understand & I had to look into it too. It's so ingrained. Thanks for supporting! 💪🏼 8y
KVanRead Just caught this now, and ❤️ what an awesome, inclusive and informative community Litsy is. No surprise that book lovers love both to inform and to learn! Change duly noted — I will use this from now on👍 8y
Carol I'm on board. 💪 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I read them this morning and thank you so much for posting them and letting me know. 8y
