The Simplicity of Cider
The Simplicity of Cider: A Novel | Amy E. Reichert
Fall in love with The Simplicity of Cider, the charming new novel about a prickly but gifted cider-maker whose quiet life is interrupted by the arrival of a handsome man and his young son at her familys careworn orchard by the author of The Coincidence of Coconut Cake and Luck, Love & Lemon Pie. Focused and unassuming fifth generation cider-maker Sanna Lund has one desire: to live a simple, quiet life on her familys apple orchard in Door County, Wisconsin. Although her business is struggling, Sanna remains fiercely devoted to the orchard, despite her brothers attempts to convince their aging father to sell the land. Single dad Isaac Banks has spent years trying to shield his son Sebastian from his troubled mother. Fleeing heartbreak at home, Isaac packed up their lives and the two headed out on an adventure, driving across the country. Chanceor fateled them straight to Sannas orchard. Isaacs helping hands are much appreciated at the apple farm, even more when Sannas father is injured in an accident. As Sannas formerly simple life becomes increasingly complicated, she finds solace in unexpected placesfriendship with young Sebastian and something more deliciously complex with Isaacuntil an outside threat infiltrates the farm. From the warm and funny Amy E. Reichert, The Simplicity of Cider is a charming love story with a touch of magic, perfect for fans of Sarah Addison Allen and Gayle Forman.

This is a soft pick. It was cheesy and predictable and would make a good Hallmark movie. It was set in an apple orchard from June to November so this is a good time of the year to read it, a good summer to autumn transition book. You definitely want to have some apples or apple products ready to eat. And I appreciate the recipe at the end of the book.

I really like this author's writing. And I liked this story. My only complaint is I didn't like the main character, Sanna. It's clear she is guarded & why, but she acts childish, hardly apologizes, and basically gets between Isaac and his son which is a huge no-no to me. She has her reasons, but instead of stepping back & letting Isaac figure things out with his son, she makes it about her. I finished, just never got around to liking Sanna.

I'm honestly not sure I've done either one but an apple orchard sounds lovely.
Soup!
Cinnamon dolce--caramel apple spice forever 😍
I'd like to go on a hayride that leads to a beachy bonfire please.
I want approximately four bites of pumpkin pie every couple of months. I've had a lot of mediocre apple pies and have no further patience for them, but if it's a really good apple pie, I'm all in for that.

Sweet easy fall read. This book had me craving cider and I‘m even going to attempt to bake an apple cobbler this weekend. Feel good read with a happy ending, warm people, warm food, fuzziness all around. It was a bit hallmark movie” but I didn‘t mind

1) Wanting to move to Wisconsin and
2) Craving cider 🍎
I‘m in love with the characters and the farm and the descriptions of how an orchard is run and how cider is made,

A woman trying hard to make perfect ciders in her family's failing apple orchard, and a single father trying to give his son the perfect summer before delivering devastating news. It had the feel of a Hallmark movie, with both characters having to deal with issues but coming together because they are just better with one another.

marleed I read this in January and as I read was quickly considering which inner circle Hallmark actors would fill which roles. 4y

It goes like this ...Mom of adorable, young boy dies. Hunky dad leaves busy California with said boy, for the slower life of gorgeous Door County, Wisconsin. They land at an apple orchard run by rugged but beautiful, single women and her fun-loving aging father. Oh, and there is the fear of unfeeling developers buying out the farm. Is this not a predicate for a Hallmark movie!? Still, a fun easy read.

marleed @Reggie LOL. Sometimes it‘s just fun to read a story unfold exactly as you knew it would. I found myself wondering which of the 15 female and 9 male actors would play the parts. And just how will the boy‘s mother‘s death (prior to story - of course) be changed to a more heroic HM parental passing. It truly added to the fun of the read! 4y

The last week or so, there‘s been a slight shift, autumn is coming to a close & we‘re slipping into the dark of winter. Although most of the leaves have lost their vibrant hues & fallen from the trees, & the natural world is preparing for a long winter nap, I‘m not quite ready to let go of this beautiful & bountiful season. So for a final autumn hurrah, I‘m reading this book. I‘ve heard it‘s delightful, magical & the perfect autumn read.

I have quibbles with various aspects of Amy Reichert‘s books. But that doesn‘t change that they are fun reads with entertaining romances and characters. My favorite of hers is The Coincidence of Coconut Cake but this is a close second.

Have you read any of her books?

So....yeah....today was definitely a case of a book influencing dinner. 😆

Sanna and her father had cheesy chicken noodle casserole, green beans and apple cobbler. I didn‘t want chicken (just had it last night), but it definitely put me in the mood for a casserole, so I made baked ziti, salad, and (store bought) apple pie.
