Mehso-so

I did end up finishing it, but the humor wasn‘t really on my wavelength. Pros were the creative premise and some of the comical scenarios; cons were the crass humor, the unlikeable cast, and the “twist” that is obvious to the reader long before the MC figures it out. Also the downside of a creative premise is that it‘s easy to get out over your skis and wind up with some very weird explaining to do. 2⭐️

CSeydel It doesn‘t help that the cover basically gives away the “twist.” I wonder if it was an intentional choice by the author, that the reader knows what‘s going on before Charlie does? I suppose that does fit with the wacky-sitcom mood he has created, so yeah, probably. 6d

Inspired by @Leftcoastzen I got this one out from the library then perused it while my teen got his haircut. There are some painful cars in here, but they missed the 1991 Ford Tempo.

Leftcoastzen 😂👏good one ! 1w

Pickpick

3.9⭐️ This one had me rolling. But I just can‘t get over the ending, which greatly disappointed me. Not the knowledge of who the daughter was but what they did to Charlie himself. That shit kind of sucked. Overall, though, it was such a fun book as only Christopher Moore can do.

I‘ll probably give this book one or two more chapters, but I‘m within a hair‘s breadth of bailing. Maybe my sense of humor is lacking, but I don‘t find anything funny about giving a two-week old baby a cocktail sausage and making jokes about her giving a Teletubby a blow job. FFS

CSeydel It‘s bad enough as idle idiocy but Jane is doing this while Charlie is trying to share his horror that a man he was talking to got hit by a bus before his eyes. Instead of listening she makes sex jokes about his two-week old daughter (whose mother, Charlie‘s wife, died in childbirth, so he‘s still dealing with that). There‘s “black humor” and then there‘s just … whatever this is. 2w
Bookwomble Comedians and humourists often say that you can make a joke out of anything, but this quotation demonstrates that just because you can, doesn't mean you should! 🤢 2w
Lesliereadsalot This sounds horrible! 2w
CSeydel @Bookwomble For sure. I don‘t think of myself as overly sensitive, but that just wasn‘t funny. 2w
