My fourth completed book for #14Books14Weeks2023 and my second for #JoyousJune. This was a cute, low stakes romance. I found it in a FLL and thought I could try it, even though I typically an no fan of romance. It was OK. I‘d probably enjoy it more on the small screen. Nikole‘s man-bun boyfriend of five weeks proposes in public and she says “no”. Enter Carlos. Neither want a relationship right now, so friends with benefits is fine for now, right?

Andrew65 Well done 👏👏👏 A shame it wasn‘t better. 10mo
Ruthiella @Andrew65 Thanks. It was a quick read, on the plus side. 10mo

Pickpick

Bk1 of #JoyousJune #readathon is done! Finished this last night after a hectic day, after Jaxon then a bookstore visit, we got a phone call from the MIL saying she‘d won $6,000 on the pokies and did we want to come to dinner at the club, her shout? Yep. So the reread wasn‘t done till 11pm. The conclusion of the All Souls trilogy was again, not the best book in it but it does tie up the story nicely. #BookspinBingo #SeriesLove2023 #Pantone2023

Andrew65 Excellent. Are you planning to read Time‘s Convert that Fantastic Fiction lists as the fourth book in the series. 11mo
Lizpixie @Andrew65 yes I‘m reading it right now. It‘s not actually a book in All Souls, it‘s like a companion book, according to the author anyway! 11mo

At the end of Day1 of my #JoyousJune #readathon I have 5 1/2hrs of my reread of the last book in the All Souls Trilogy. I‘ve already finished the first two, in spite of the towers of new books in my library, I needed a comfort read & I love this world. So goodnight from me, I‘m having an earlyish night as I‘m taking my grandson out tomorrow before going to a new bookstore that‘s just opened up in Penrith. I know, my TBR is staring daggers!🫣

Andrew65 A great start, well done 👏👏👏 I really need to get back to these books. Look forward to hearing what books you pick up 😂 11mo

Bullet Train | Kotaro Isaka

Pickpick

I had to postpone my trip on Bullet Train but now my journey is finished. What a ride! Very cinematic and violent with plot twists and turns. Five(?) assassins are aboard the high speed train between Tokyo and Morioka. All have conflicting assignments from the Japanese underworld. Not all are necessarily who they appear to be. Who will make it off alive?

Cinfhen Ohhhhh, this sounds AMAZING #Stacked 2y
Ruthiella @Cinfhen It reminded me some of a Tarantino movie. Flippantly violent. 2y

Mehso-so

Finished my June #DoubleSpin AND my first #BookSpinBingo since January 🤪 As with most anthologies there was a lot of good work here and some that I just didn‘t care for. Both heavy and light approaches to mortality in this collection. #JoyousJune

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! Great progress!! 2y

Either/Or | Elif Batuman

Pickpick

Wow. This follow up to The Idiot is similarly funny in Batuman‘s trademark dry, deadpan style, but at about the 2/3 mark it got dark and sad for me. The protagonist, Selin lives her life as if she were a heroine in a 19th century novel and my heart ached for every stupid decision she made. Batuman is such a smart writer. I think she is doing something big and Proustian with these books.

1st book finished for #JoyousJune & also read for #CampLitsy

Cathythoughts Excellent review! I‘m looking forward to giving it a go now 👍🏻♥️ 2y

I‘m late, but I‘m joining the #JoyousJune Readathon. This is my best shot at reading before my big trip to Buffalo & Wisconsin so I‘d like to soak in as many books as I can before the road trip.

I previous finished Woman World, The Friendship Pact and The Merciless ones.

Currently reading: The Best Bad Things, Bad Blood and a Solitude of Wolverines.

Everything else is on tap!

Bookwormjillk Is that all one trip? 2y
kimmypete1 @Bookwormjillk yep! I‘m driving from VA to Buffalo for a wedding, from Buffalo to WI to see family and then back home to VA. 2y
