The Proposal
The Proposal | Jasmine Guillory
From the author of The Wedding Date comes a new novel about the perils of public proposals and the beauty of an unexpected second chance. When Nik Paterson went to the Dodgers game with her C-list actor boyfriend, Ford, for his birthday, she expected nothing more than a few boring hours with him and his bros. She certainly didn't expect a Jumbotron proposal. Or her name to be misspelled. Or to go viral in minutes... Carlos Ibarra wants to hang out with his sister, catch a Dodgers game, and relax for once. But when a camera crew descends on Nik after the disastrous proposal, he has to rescue her. After they flee the stadium, he delivers her into the arms of her supportive girlfriends, and they both think they'll never see each other again. Fate has other plans. Nik and Carlos keep crossing paths, accidentally and on purpose. When they finally give in to their attraction to each other, they are on the same page: sex and nothing more. But the proposed friends-with-benefits relationship is turning into something more, and the pair have to decide if they have room in their lives for love.

I didn‘t realize this was a sequel of sorts to The Wedding Date, but I loved getting Carlos‘ story! I think Guillory does great banter and I really liked the way these two played off each other. Added to that, a great diverse cast, lots of food (I appreciate a heroine who eats), some good character development and not too explicit sexysex, and this was a win for me. Can‘t wait for my hold on The Wedding Party to come in!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

This definitely is a beach read, which is what I was looking for on this weekend's readathon. I was really hoping for something more from this book. Unfortunately, the lack of character development and dialogue that felt forced made the book fall flat for me. I received a free copy from the author (pictured above) at BookExpo. 3.5 ⭐

Deifio Good to know! I was thinking of buying it, but if it's just so-so I'll rather buy a paranormal romance "beach read" ? 1mo
TheSpineView @Deifio I wanted to like it more because the author was super sweet. 1mo

Jasmine Guillory sure knows how to write fun and believably flawed characters. I'm loving this series! This one follows Carlos (Drew's bff from The Wedding Date) as he meets Nik(ole) when he comes to her rescue after a disastrous public proposal. Four stars!

2 ⭐️- The Proposal was the belle of the ball last Fall with Reece Witherspoon herself adding to the excitement surrounding this romance by selecting it as part of her Book Club.

It had a cute idea & a wonderfully diverse cast but sadly, I just wasn‘t a fan. The plot was weak and the characters blaw. I was expecting a romantic, funny & sassy read like The Unhoneymooners but I got a very different read.

My review: http://bit.ly/2kUq4B8

Christy2318 I bailed at 10%. I was underwhelmed by the execution of the meet cute and had other things in my queue that seemed more appealing. 3mo

I enjoyed this! I did not like it as much as this first in the series, but it was cute. If you are looking for an easy, fluffy, very sexy, everything will be good in the end romance, this one is for you. I do like the diversity and feminism is Guillory‘s novels. It is refreshing!

As with her previous book, The Wedding Date, there was just something missing in this story for me. The concept, characters, and general storyline were fine, but nothing spectacular, and it feels like there is something missing in the progression of the relationships. Still an enjoyable light read but not really a recommend.

#24in48 Hour 18, time to break out the cheese board and romance! I am fairly new to romance as a genre, I think the first one I truly loved was Helen Hoang's The Kiss Quotient, which I read earlier this year! I love the fake relationship trope- also found in Jasmine Guillory's novels- and I love to see diverse characters.

Charming and sweet “sequel” to The Wedding Date. Carlos (Drew‘s BFF from the first book) rescues Nik from a terrible Dodgers game proposal, and they hit it off. A classic “let‘s keep things casual” ensues and like in a perfect summer read kind of way.

Loved this even more than The Wedding Date! Two great leads who are both interesting and relatable. There were also a couple of engaging subplots that helped keep the story moving and helped this one avoid the second half slump I see in romance a lot where everyone's problems could be solved if the leads would just talk to each other. Definitely looking forward to Guillory's next book!

I adore long weekends! Nik is at a baseball game with her sort of boyfriend when out of the blue, he proposes to her on the jumbo tron. Since she was startled and hadn‘t seen it coming, she turns him down. Carlos is at the same game and he and his sister rescue Nik from a camera crew. Eventually Nik and Carlos start seeing each other as a friends with benefits type arrangement but it‘s not long before they both start to feel something deeper. 👇

Carlos was introduced in 'The Wedding Date' (2018) as will the main characters in 'The Wedding Party' (July 2019). While Carlos & Nik's rebound relationship turns into more, no surprise there, I was more impressed by the side storylines: Nik's best friends, Carlos' tight family relationships, but most impressive was the clear, strong message about how easy it is to wake up in an emotionally abusive relationship. Recovering from that isn't easy.

I loved The Wedding Date, so was entirely ready to be charmed by Carlos and his love of food. Nik was a great introduction to the series as the heroine - who is also into good food, prepare to be hungry most of this book. (Minor spoiler) I felt that the late-book “conflict” between Nik and Carlos needed a bit more teeth, it felt kind of juvenile with some of the lines, but I got where Nik was coming from.

Have any of you read this book? I started the audiobook version of it but somehow I can‘t fully get into it. I don‘t mind “cheesy love” stories at all ( ❤️ 😬) but this seemed like an extremely exaggerated soap opera that seems to linger more than it should—-but —- what if I‘m wrong—does it get better? I‘m usually not picky— am I being rude and judging it too soon? SOS 🧐🥺👥

baes I bailed on it because it was so cheesy. It felt like a child wrote it with the juvenile dialogue. I wanted to love it because I heard such high praise, and I love a good fluffy romance. But this was too much. 😕 7mo
Shhh...IAmReading @baes YESSS, you‘re right! I wanted to like it, too but it definitely was too much. And I don‘t mind a good fluffy romance either! 😓 I tried and tried but couldn‘t take it anymore.
