5⭐️ This will be a 2018 go to book rec. I couldn‘t put this book down. Such an absorbing story of friendship, loss, grief, determination, grit, and the plucky spirit of a girl dreaming of becoming a War Correspondent. A mistakenly accepted job lands her typing up Mrs Bird‘s responses to Acceptable questions sent into woman‘s mag. But what about Unacceptable or Unpleasantness questions? Emmy can‘t help but secretly responding to these letters.

I absolutely adored this book. It is very much unlike Handmaid‘s Tale or Alias Grace in tone and feel, but it was wonderful!!! I don‘t know what I was expecting before I started. I knew nothing about this book, just that I liked Margaret Atwood‘s writing and this was available from the library right now. I‘m glad I took this little adventure. So much of this felt real and genuine to me. So much of this could be me, if I were a painter and older.

I can‘t really begin to explain how much this book has touched me. From the beginning as you get the feel for the sassy character Loveday, to understanding what she‘s felt and been through. This book is just everything. I have never felt so drawn to a character as I am Loveday.
