Another book underway regarding local-ish history. Pearl S. Buck's West Virginia home in Hillsboro is located about 35 up US 219 from where I live in Lewisburg. Great read so far!

3/5⭐ The description implies it's a love story, but it's really not. This book takes place during the decline/assimilation of Jewish culture in Kaifeng, China in the 1800s & the tensions that result. The afterword about the historical context is helpful. There's a common theme throughout of sadness vs happiness that I found thoughtful. The midpoint takes a wild turn that I didn't think fit with the tone of what came before or after. #buzzwordathon
I loved The Good Earth, and I was really excited to read the next book in the series for #FoodAndLit #China
I didn‘t love it though. Oh well. I might try the third one because I‘ve heard that‘s better, but this one was way too long and didn‘t have the storytelling magic the first one had.
Today‘s adventure in Chinese tea. #FoodAndLit #China
I have too many choices for #China for #foodandlit this month, all in my kindle library. I‘ll start with the tagged book and hope I might get to one or two more. Any favorites here?
By this far this is my least favourite Pearl S. Buck novel I have read. I didn't really feel the deepness of the story and the love. However, I did not know anything about the Jewish community in Chine, so I am glad I read it.
Pearl S. Buck again. It was a really really good story about a woman who try to balance between old Chinese tradition and the West world.

I bought every Pearl S. Buck book in the second hand bookshop I could. I am so happy with them! Last year this writer became one of favourites and my goal is to read every book which was publushed on my language 🥰🥰🥰🥰
