I only read this play for #Booked2021 and was more amused by it than expected. I didn‘t even know My Fair Lady is based on Shaw‘s novella. And now I realize that the book isn‘t #PoetryOrWrittenInVerse but I hope a play will do too!

Some of these poems were difficult to read, covering child abuse, sexual abuse and domestic violence amongst other subjects.
However, there were so many resonant poems on anxiety and believing in yourself - I took screenshots of every one, I think!

I finalized my June reading totals this morning. Not bad, though I really need to focus on my challenges!
I also submitted my 2nd quarter form for #Booked2021 , having read 2 titles for that challenge:
#BakedGoodsOnCover - A Sheetcake Named Desire by Jacklyn Brady
#PoetryOrWrittenInVerse - The Selected Poems of Emily Dickinson

Michael, born in London of a Greek Cypriot mother and an absent Jamaican father, tells the story of his growing up, coming out & finding his voice in poetry & drag performance. Along the way he grapples with his own, and other people's, ideas about his identity. The writing was very YA, and not always obviously verse, but it raised some interesting points and overall I enjoyed it. A good one for audio. 👇
Had it not been for #AuthorAMonth I likely wouldn't have picked this up, but it was a swift moving and interesting glimpse into the author's childhood in the 1960s and '70s. A memoir in verse, Woodson tells about her family's brief time in Ohio, then the years in South Carolina before moving up to New York City. Each short poem gives a few words about a person, place, thing, or feeling and though it is low on a continuous narrative, ⬇️
There are only a few poets I really connect with, and Dickinson is one of them. Her poetry speaks to me on so many levels, and her perspectives are enchanting. This collections showcases some of her more famous works, along with other lesser known pieces.

I‘m pretty sure this is a case of “it‘s me, not you”. I just couldn‘t keep my attention to the poems, and I‘m not sure audio is the right media for me to read poetry.

I listened to this short but powerful poetry collection last night before going to bed. #Freebie #AudiblePlus 🎧 Joy Harjo is the first Native American to be honored with title US Poet Laureate. Here she invokes the hardships, violence and displacement that has marked hundreds of years of Native American history, sharing her own families plight as they were forced to walk the Trail of Tears. She also blends current US policy to the narrative 👇🏼
I‘m not too sure how to review this.
I didn‘t find it that easy to connect with the #poetry. It felt very ‘Literary‘ - the sort of thing you study, rather than just read. There were just three women included in the collection (which we‘re assured is actually an impressive number), and I found it slightly easier to get a grip on those poems, possibly because they‘re writing from outside the establishment.
In this collection of poetry, Atwood focus her attention on love, life, nature, and the passage of time... with a few zombies chucked in the mix 🧟♀️ 🍃
I think it‘s a collection to immerse yourself in rather than dipping in and out. I also felt listening to the poems in Atwood‘s voice added to the experience.
