I only read this play for #Booked2021 and was more amused by it than expected. I didn‘t even know My Fair Lady is based on Shaw‘s novella. And now I realize that the book isn‘t #PoetryOrWrittenInVerse but I hope a play will do too!

Cinfhen A play will do ☺️😉xxxx 3y
vivastory I have been curious about Shaw's work, but I don't think it will top the movie. Love Hepburn! 3y

Some of these poems were difficult to read, covering child abuse, sexual abuse and domestic violence amongst other subjects.

However, there were so many resonant poems on anxiety and believing in yourself - I took screenshots of every one, I think!

I finalized my June reading totals this morning. Not bad, though I really need to focus on my challenges!

I also submitted my 2nd quarter form for #Booked2021 , having read 2 titles for that challenge:

#BakedGoodsOnCover - A Sheetcake Named Desire by Jacklyn Brady

#PoetryOrWrittenInVerse - The Selected Poems of Emily Dickinson

Cinfhen Thanks for your submission 😊 Good luck 🍀 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Good job! Got your form! 3y

#Booked2021 #PoetryOrWrittenInVerse
Michael, born in London of a Greek Cypriot mother and an absent Jamaican father, tells the story of his growing up, coming out & finding his voice in poetry & drag performance. Along the way he grapples with his own, and other people's, ideas about his identity. The writing was very YA, and not always obviously verse, but it raised some interesting points and overall I enjoyed it. A good one for audio. 👇

CarolynM 👆The first part of the story was very juvenile in style, which was appropriate because he was talking about early childhood, but I found it a bit annoying and I wondered how many teenagers would have stuck with it. Anyway. That's the last prompt ticked off for this season. Round up post to follow. 3y
LeeRHarry I enjoyed this one 3y
Cinfhen Yay!!!!! Well done!! I love that cover ? Don‘t forget that we are now tallying completed prompts with a form submission???You have until midnight, **July 3** to fill out the second quarter form to be entered in our drawing? ?

Had it not been for #AuthorAMonth I likely wouldn't have picked this up, but it was a swift moving and interesting glimpse into the author's childhood in the 1960s and '70s. A memoir in verse, Woodson tells about her family's brief time in Ohio, then the years in South Carolina before moving up to New York City. Each short poem gives a few words about a person, place, thing, or feeling and though it is low on a continuous narrative, ⬇️

Cinfhen This was really beautifully done 🙌🏻❣️ 3y

Selected Poems | Emily Dickinson

There are only a few poets I really connect with, and Dickinson is one of them. Her poetry speaks to me on so many levels, and her perspectives are enchanting. This collections showcases some of her more famous works, along with other lesser known pieces.

#Booked2021 #PoetryOrWrittenInVerse

Librarybelle Saturday marked the 135th anniversary of Dickinson‘s death. The annual Poetry Walk, which honors her legacy, was held virtually again this year. It‘s thanks to the virtual commemoration that I could attend last year‘s and this year‘s. An hour of recitations of Dickinson‘s poetry, along with contemporary poets inspired by Dickinson. A touching tribute! 3y
Cinfhen Sounds wonderful 3y
DivineDiana Wish I had known about this! I am loving all the virtual events! 3y
Librarybelle @DivineDiana Me too! I was fortunate to find this last year online and for an email about this year‘s virtual festivities. I never would have participated if not for the virtual offering. 3y

I‘m pretty sure this is a case of “it‘s me, not you”. I just couldn‘t keep my attention to the poems, and I‘m not sure audio is the right media for me to read poetry.

Cinfhen Yeah, I listened to a different collection and it just didn‘t move me at all. A few poems were powerful but nothing memorable. 4y
SamAnne I need to see the words on the page. Unless it‘s Amanda Gorman at the Inauguration!!!!! This is on my TBR for next month. 4y

I listened to this short but powerful poetry collection last night before going to bed. #Freebie #AudiblePlus 🎧 Joy Harjo is the first Native American to be honored with title US Poet Laureate. Here she invokes the hardships, violence and displacement that has marked hundreds of years of Native American history, sharing her own families plight as they were forced to walk the Trail of Tears. She also blends current US policy to the narrative 👇🏼

TrishB Oh I have these ready to read 👍🏻 looking forward to it. 4y
Cinfhen I think you‘re gonna like this @TrishB Im not much of a poetry reader but it was easily accessible 4y

Megabooks Sounds good! I need to read more poetry 4y
Cinfhen It put me to sleep last night @Megabooks except the author randomly sings Native American chants and it kept startling me ( not in a good way, either 😜😘) 4y
Suet624 I love her work. 4y
Cinfhen I can see why @Suet624 her work is very accessible 4y

I‘m not too sure how to review this.

I didn‘t find it that easy to connect with the #poetry. It felt very ‘Literary‘ - the sort of thing you study, rather than just read. There were just three women included in the collection (which we‘re assured is actually an impressive number), and I found it slightly easier to get a grip on those poems, possibly because they‘re writing from outside the establishment.

rockpools On the other hand, I found the author biographies and insights into life in #Myanmar/Burma absolutely fascinating, and it‘s made me want to read more from the country. #ReadingAsia2021 #Booked2021 #poetryorwritteninverse @BarbaraBB @Librarybelle @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft 4y
Librarybelle Nice review! It‘s great when notes in the book make you wish to explore more about the topic or country. 4y
BarbaraBB I think I‘ll need something more readable for Myanmar, this one sounds too tough! 4y

Cinfhen I love your reviews. They are always so thoughtful and entertaining!!!! Thanks for sharing 4y
rockpools @Cinfhen Aw, thank you Cindy! 4y
rockpools @BarbaraBB I don‘t think I‘d particularly recommend it. Except that it‘s dual language, so it‘s much shorter than it looks and you get to admire the Myanmar text all the way through... 4y
rockpools @Librarybelle It is - it‘s not somewhere I‘ve ever read about before! 4y

In this collection of poetry, Atwood focus her attention on love, life, nature, and the passage of time... with a few zombies chucked in the mix 🧟‍♀️ 🍃

I think it‘s a collection to immerse yourself in rather than dipping in and out. I also felt listening to the poems in Atwood‘s voice added to the experience.

Hooked_on_books That cover is gorgeous! Much better than the US cover. 4y
Kalalalatja Good idea for the prompt! 4y
JennyM @Hooked_on_books it is really pretty & it suits the collection too 4y
JennyM @Kalalalatja I stumbled across it while looking for a new audiobook. I don‘t read much poetry so was quite pleased to find it 👍 (edited) 4y
