#FoodAndLit This was an interesting read and a fascinating look into #Ethiopia 🇪🇹I was really enjoying my quest until author Bob Cornuke, a retired detective and DEVOUT Christian turned somewhat fanatical in his determination to use Christian scriptures to prove his theory that the lost Ark was brought to Ethiopia centuries ago. He does raise some intriguing premises although most Biblical scholars & historians do not agree with him. 👇🏼

Cinfhen I won‘t discredit his theory as I do believe there is some plausibility. A pick with reservations, because there was A LOT and I mean A LOT of repeated rhetoric. Still a fascinating look into Ethiopian culture, history, religious identity and life. 👇🏼 (edited) 3y
Cinfhen As an aside, my friend Dr. Morris Hartstein has worked endlessly and selflessly to help the people of Ethiopia. I‘ve tagged on recent article about his efforts https://www.aish.com/jw/id/Israeli-Eye-Doctor-Treating-Thousands-of-Ethiopians.h... 3y

Written in raw vulnerability/ beautiful prose but heartbreaking content. A subject not often discussed; same sex domestic violence. Her lack of self worth was brutal. #pop21 #ShareZodiacSignWithAuthor #NonFictionChallenge21 #LatinxAuthor

TrishB Sounds very sad 💔 3y
Cathythoughts It does sound very sad @TrishB 3y
Megabooks Definitely a moving book. It was my second of this year. I‘m glad I gave Carmen a second shot. 3y

Cinfhen Me too @Megabooks I couldn‘t get through her short story collection 3y
Cinfhen It was MUCH deeper than sad @TrishB @Cathythoughts she took SO MUCH EMOTIONAL ABUSE for fear of losing “love” 3y
Kalalalatja I have already stacked this, it sounds very moving 💔 3y

KarenUK On my #tbr too. Sounds heartbreaking. 3y
Megabooks Same re: short stories. It‘s rare that I don‘t like a short story collection, but I just had a really negative reaction 3y

A bit dry and writing was rather straightforward but still very informative & interesting. Born female, Ben Barres always felt more male than female & could not relate to his twin sister. A self described #ScienceNerd from early on, the author dreamed of spending his life studying the human brain & body. He didn‘t transition until his mid 40‘s so spent most of his student life & professional life as a marginalized overlooked female scientist. 👇🏽

Cinfhen After transitioning, Ben Barnes vocally and loudly calls out all of the gender inequality that was and is still rampant in academia. Sadly, Ben Barres was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and died too young. #NonFictionChallenge21 #WrittenByATransAuthor 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Such a sad ending to his story and your review. 3y
Cinfhen Yes, it is sad @Riveted_Reader_Melissa because there was SO MUCH more he could have accomplished 3y
TrishB Aww, another sad story. Sexism in academia, yep! 3y

Unnatural Causes | Richard Shepherd

Pickpick

This was my #DoubleSpin and upcoming IRL bookclub choice/ I really enjoyed learning about the skill, dedication, sensitivity and iron stomach it takes to be a forensic pathologist. The writing was very engaging and Dr. Shepherd did a great job of blending his personal story with his victims stories. If you are from the UK you might recall some of the more high profile cases including Princess Diana 💜Great read

JillR It was the recounting of high profile cases that I really enjoyed about this one - many of them were events I recalled but was a child/teenager at the time so had only a limited memory of. Really interesting to read about them from a medical/emergency responder perspective... 3y
KarenUK Beautiful picture! Tulips are my favorite 💕🌷 3y

Cinfhen I‘m glad my bookclub chose this one @JillR it‘s not our typical read but I really found it a nice diversion from our standard reading 3y
