What We Fed to the Manticore | Talia Lakshmi Kolluri

Pickpick

Such a strong short story collection. All the stories were from an animals perspective. Reminded me of an Aesop's fables for grownups during this time of climate change and war. Loved the authors voice. Was up for the Aspen Words and #carolsheildsaward. #52bookclub23 #presenttense @LauraReads @KarenUK @britt_brooke @CarolynM @Smarkies @LeeRHarry @Clwojick @BookBelle84 @jennifer80 @Librarybelle @triplem80 @AshleyHoss820 @Bluebird @Read4life

I had a hard time getting into this, but it was good overall. The narrator is an aki, a sin-eater, part of the lowest caste in Kos but absolutely necessary to the city‘s existence. He becomes embroiled in palace intrigues and gets caught up in a rebellion. Ends on a cliffhanger, which is annoying. #52Books23 #highfantasy could also be #presenttense or #containsafuneral or #featuresmythology or probably others

Claire Keegan drafts her story so carefully and tenderly that I was pulled in from the start. A father drops his daughter at the farm of an aunt and uncle she hardly knows. She has no idea how long she will have to stay and is very scared. However from the first moments onwards the couple just show her love and tenderness. The girl learns about life, trust and grief. Keegan manages to do so in as few pages as possible. Perfection.
Thanks Cindy💖

squirrelbrain Ooh, good choice for the #52books23 prompt- I may have to use this one for the same prompt. 1y

Cinfhen So glad you loved it!!! 1y
BarbaraBB @TrishB @sarahbarnes @LeeRHarry @KarenUK @Librarybelle It really is so good. In under 100 pages Keegan knows how to build a story so well. And it lingers on a long time afterward. Thanks again for choosing this one for me @Cinfhen ❤️ 14mo
