#bookspin list for January. @TheAromaofBooks

Playing it very loosy-goosy this year, as I've signed up to too many challenges and don't know which books will fit the prompts.

You'll see Paradise Lost, The Pilgrim's Progress & Leviathan across the year - I'm spreading them out.

The mastery subject reading plan will be books written about the Stuart era.

TheEllieMo This is another that I haven‘t read on the grounds that it‘s “not my thing”, but this year I‘ve read and enjoyed a few books I would have said weren‘t “my thing” so I ought to give this one a go 2d
jenniferw88 @TheEllieMo the MC is basically an adult Harry Potter solving crime in the muggle world, if that helps you decide! 2d
TheEllieMo @jenniferw88 ah, well, HP was one (well, 7) of the books that surprised me this year, so I guess that does help me decide! 2d

I do have extra motivation to read them now, however, as I've decided I need background information from the Reformation onwards to help with my creative writing project (even if it's going to be taking place nearly a century later 🤣😃)!

#20thingsaboutme This is one of the hardest parts of #auldlangspine for me every year - I don't want to repeat myself, but I also don't want to scroll through all my posts to find out what I wrote last time 🤣 1-4 and 14-17 are probably repeats!

TheBookHippie 🙃 oh I loved being @Singout partner! 4w
monalyisha All numbered entries are interesting, of course (so cool that you‘ve got a creative writing project!) but the fashion bits are particularly fascinating to me. I think my brain broke at the phrase “sultry winter”; it seems like such an oxymoron to a seasonal hater like me (though I know it has nothing to do with whether you like or dislike the cold 😅). Definitely looking into 19 & 20 when I‘ve got some free time! 4w

So excited for my #auldlangspine list from @Singout ! I haven't read ANY of them, although I have read the tagged author before & loved it (Braiding Sweetgrass), so I'll probably start there.

Top right shows books I already owned (and/or purchased recently), & bottom right shows books I'm interested in.

Books #2, #5, #6 & #12 aren't appealing to me at mo, but might later in the year! 🤣

Thanks @monalyisha for another 👍 match!

Philosophy, poetry, plays, essays, nonfiction that isn't history-based - which is why I've requested this on my #auldlangspine2026 form. I realise @monalyisha that this may be hard to match for so if some of the fiction genres I've listed/ticked have to be included, that's fine by me! 🤣🤣🤣

December is all about trying to finish reading challenges, so instead of books I've listed the prompts I need to fulfill to complete them. And two mood reads because I failed miserably in November 🤣

Any recommendations for good books for these? The genre chosen was romance.

#bookspinbingo @TheAromaofBooks

Soubhiville Great idea! I was going to suggest Manga for your genre so you could choose your topic and read one quickly to check a box! For the celebrity cover I just read Tim Curry‘s memoir and enjoyed it. For Irish author Colm Toibin‘s Nora Webster. 1mo
Soubhiville Told in verse- I like Elizabeth Acevedo or Jason Reynolds. 1mo

jitteryjane724 1. The book “Serpentine“ by Philip Pullman, but it helps if you are familiar with the universe first.

#10beforetheend @ChaoticMissAdventures

Started attending a new book club in my local library (tagged is our first book), and it depends on what book the librarian can get in as to what we'll be reading (although we've given her a list) as there's multiple book clubs in the council library system, so that's why #2 doesn't have a title!

jenniferw88 @BarbaraBB it's going to be a readalong over 2 weeks on Substack with Henry Eliot - the substack is Read the Classics with Henry Eliot. I'll post a more detailed blurb below. 2mo
jenniferw88 @BarbaraBB Mishima was born 100 years ago this year. This novel – his second – was the publication (in 1949) that made him a literary celebrity. Our narrator is the teenage Kochan, who loves his male classmate and masturbates over images of Saint Sebastian, but finds himself unable to reveal his true desires, hiding behind a mask of conformity. We will finish reading on the anniversary of Mishima‘s suicide by ritual seppuku. 2mo

Just attended a talk with Mike Gayle, David Suchet, Ann Cleeves, and Rachel Trethewey at Cheltenham Literature Festival, discussing whether Christie could be considered 'cosy'.
