#HaikuADay #HaikuHive

When I was driving along Hwy 19 in Kona yesterday there was a family of dark brown goats (males, females, kids) just casually walking down the side of the highway. Apparently they are feral& pretty common but their casual stroll captured my attention & inspired today‘s haiku:

Goat Gang 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐

Brown goat parade struts
Like they own the whole highway—
Cruisin‘ Kona style.

In the visible world of nature, a great truth is concealed in plain sight: diminish meant and beauty, darkness and light, death and life are not opposites. They are held together in the paradox of “hidden wholeness”.

I first read this 15 years ago, and found it deeply meaningful during a time when I was both mentoring others in discerning their calling, and discerning a new direction in my own life. Reading it again now brought up so many memories, and the parallels & contrasts between my life then and now are striking. Because of that, it was a difficult read in some ways, but very reassuring in others. ⤵️

BarbaraJean (Cont‘d) I feel like I‘ve made very little progress in my “vocation” since 2009—and at the same time, the changes I‘ve been pursuing this year dovetail with Palmer‘s message in some very validating ways. Palmer focuses on living out of our true self, rather than trying to become who we—or others—think we should be. There‘s a rather large element of privilege there (wouldn‘t it be nice if we all had the luxury of jobs that both pay the rent ⤵️ 10mo
BarbaraJean (Cont‘d) …and are truly a vocation, a living out of our true self)—but at the same time, there‘s still a lot of truth here that resonates for me. 10mo
JamieArc Love Parker Palmer (especially as a Quaker). 10mo
BarbaraJean @JamieArc 💜 I think this is the only book of his I've read, but I follow him on social media and love basically everything he posts. I need to make time for more of his books. 10mo

And a double-banger straight off the mark, in the book I was already reading.

It's the first one I've double-dipped - but I've decided that for me, if it's in the same sentence/paragraph I can snaffle it.

Mehso-so

This was pretty meh for me. I‘ve always heard so much about this one-that it is a formative version of the genre but it didn‘t hold up well for me and was sooooo long. I almost bailed a few times and didn‘t find the characters at all. #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks

This book. Untraditional and unconventional. Completely on the perimeter of usual historical romance plotting. In the wake of a devastating stroke, the hero is trapped in a world of pity and silence. He cannot communicate his thoughts or feelings and has sunk into black despair and rage because of the devastating aftermath of a stroke. She is his rescuer and redemption, pretentious and prickly. A Quaker and a rake - and an epic love story.

The 1956 movie has always been one of my favorites. (Even though Jimmy Stewart didn't play in it) I enjoyed the book just as much. A Quaker family in Indiana during the Civil War loved, sang, and laughed. It is just a feel good book. mom2bugnbee Oh, my word. My dad has talked about this movie my entire life (I'm 48), & I've never met anyone else who knows of this movie. Gary Cooper, yes? 5y

Butterfinger @mom2bugnbee yes. I'm 45 and I love old movies. The blurb on the back really aggravated me because it said Cary Grant. I think I may email the publisher. 5y
mom2bugnbee Wow! That's quite a mistake! Yikes. 5y
CarolynM @mom2bugnbee The movie was on TV in Australia more than once in the 1970's. I remember it fondly. (edited) 5y

Who do I contact to correct inaccurate information? It was Gary Cooper who played in the film adaptation not Cary Grant. 🤦🤷

TrishB Is it on a kindle? There is a report error button on mine. 5y
Butterfinger @TrishB no it is a large print published in 07. 5y
TrishB 👍🏻 I have been known to email publishers! 5y
