kspenmoll This looks like a fun challenge- will join in! Would love to read Chernow‘s Pulitzer prize winning biography but I cannot see me reading 900+ pages in s month so reading a book not in data base here (edited) 3w
MonicaLoves2Read Sounds great. I think I'll join in the readathon. 3w
bookandbedandtea I like the sound of this. I don't know that I'll be able to read something every month but I'll try and I'll definitely pay attention to what others are reading. 2w
Amiable @kspenmoll @MonicaLoves2Read @bookandbedandtea We‘ll put you on the tag list! 2w

Kerrbearlib Oh, this sounds fun! One of my favorite Presidential books is Destiny of the Republic about President Garfield. I may have to re-read it! 3w

TEArificbooks I‘m excited. Can‘t wait for all the fun facts to be shared. There is always more to learn about history, they run out of time in school and can‘t teach it all. 3w
CoverToCoverGirl Yes! I‘m in! 3w

Roary47 That sounds interesting I‘d like to try. 2w
ImperfectCJ It's probably ill-advised for me to join another challenge, but hey...count me in! 2w
fredthemoose Will you add me to the tag list? I started trying to read a biography of each president a few years ago. I think I have all of the early ones done but I‘d still love to jump in here and there! 1w
Amiable @fredthemoose of course! I‘ve read about 18-20 president bios so far, but not in order. (I‘ve been bouncing as interest takes me.) I‘m going to start again in order. For the presidents I‘ve already completed (with heftier books that I‘m not rereading), I‘m going to pick one of the “American Presidents” series published by MacMillan. Most of them are only about 200-250 pages long. (edited) 1w
AshleyHoss820 His Excellency was a pretty interesting read about George Washington. And I‘m biased, but I loved John Adams by David McCullough, too. I read American Sphinx for Thomas Jefferson and Reagan: A Life by H.W. Brands for Ronald Reagan (obviously). Have fun, you guys! You‘ll have to get a bit creative with the lesser-known presidents, but the books are out there! ☺️ 1w
Amiable @AshleyHoss820 I loved “John Adams” —McCullough is the man for history books! The “American Presidents” series has a bio all of the presidents (including the ones everyone forgets about!) up through Clinton, I think. So that‘s a good resource as a backup. Also, have you read a Washington bio? I highly recommend 7d
AshleyHoss820 @Amiable I haven‘t read one of the American Presidents series but they definitely look like a good option! I have read a Washington bio (His Excellency by Joseph J. Ellis) but I will absolutely add the one you suggested! It‘s never a bad idea to get multiple narratives! I‘m so excited for you all to go on this journey! I‘ll be watching! ☺️☺️ 6d

A celebrated political cartoonist in #Columbia is in the midst of receiving accolades when an encounter causes him to look back at a fateful choice and start asking questions. Really interesting book.

I really enjoyed this. An intriguing story of a successful political cartoonist who questions his place in society & the value of his work (like in At Dusk by Hwang Sok-Yong). I love the strength of Vazquéz‘s writing, & the characters come to life: Magdalena‘s beguiling voice; his boss‘s bumptious formality. You sense the mist in the hills & stinging pollution of Bogotá. Are cartoonists truth-tellers or just part of the mob tearing people down?

Javier Mallarino is the most renowned political cartoonist in his country, a man who wields extraordinary power with his pencil. The day after he‘s honored for his career & many achievements, a young woman shows up at his door asking about an afternoon long ago in the past. It‘s an afternoon she remembers nothing about but Javier does, he remembers the afternoon & what he decides to do next will have far reaching consequences. A good read.

Very tense read about an aging political cartoonist reflecting on power, truth, and atonement.

Brings up great questions about memories, public image and responsibility. The main character is interesting, but the one who brings about the questions is flat. Could‘ve been so much more.
