I rarely #DNFbooks. I don‘t finish a lot right away but eventually go back and read them cover to cover.

These are the most current titles I have put on hold. It seems I do t finish books right as I get a slump.

I was enjoying all of these and I will go back and complete them.
#readingresolutions

IheartYA Oh man, you MUST pick Children of Blood and Bone back up!!!! 6y
LibrarianRyan @IheartYA I totally will. I haven‘t even taken it out of its book hugger. I just got hit with a slump so hard. Ughhh. It‘s still in my “quick picks” pile. 6y

Here's some of my #DNFBooks for this year. Some of them I plan on giving another chance.

#ReadingResolutions @Jess7

ravenlee I finished Pillars of the Earth, and I. Hated. It. I do love Siddhartha, but it‘s one you have to be in the right mood for. 6y
MirrorMask @ravenlee Kudos for finishing Pillars of Earth, it's way too long for me to attempt to finish something I don't enjoy. 6y
Burghbookaddict I finished Where'd You Go Bernadette but I hated everything about it. It's probably one of the stupidest books I've ever read. 6y
See All 8 Comments
RamsFan1963 I can see why you didn't finish Accelerando by Stross. It is IMHO his weakest novel and his hardest to get into character-wise. 6y
MirrorMask @BurghBookAddict I got far enough, that I might as well have finished but I hated everything about it. 6y
MirrorMask @RamsFan1963 Do you have any suggestions for a Stross book I should read? 6y
RamsFan1963 Singularity Sky and Iron Sunrise are my personal favorites. Halting State and Saturn's Children were also very good. If you'd like something more fantasy bent, his Laundry Files series, starting with The Nightmare Stacks, is a lot of fun. It deals with a secret British govt agency who fights Lovecraftian horrors. 6y

Here's a few #DNFBooks that I intend to try reading again at some point because I'm too damned stubborn to totally bail on a book after only 1 try. I'm attempting to ease my way into guilt-free bailing by giving each book a 2nd chance (& 3rd if necessary) just in case I've put it aside simply because it didn't hold my interest at the time rather than because it's actually too awful to finish. #ReadingResolutions

ephemeralwaltz Bailed on Walden too. 6y
tournevis I gave Ulysses three tries too. Walden I finished. It was "ok". 6y
TK-421 @tournevis I knew Ulysses wouldn't be easy but didn't expect it to be such a struggle! I expected to love Walden from all the great quotes I'd seen, but just couldn't get through it. I'm hoping both will be easier next time around. 6y
TK-421 @ephemeralwaltz Glad I'm not the only one! I really wanted to love it, but just wasn't feeling it at the time. 6y
tournevis @TK-421 Good luck! 6y

#readingresolutions #dnfbooks

There are so many books I should not have finished given the size of my tbr but alas these are but a couple that I actually bailed on.

TheAnitaAlvarez Oh, I read Bless Me, Última in college and loved it 6y
Mrsann2000 I bailed on the dunces! Could. Not. Do. It.! It was a painful read. Reminded me of someone I use to know... 6y
mrp27 @Mrsann2000 I really wanted to like Dunces but the book just didn't hold my attention. 6y
mrp27 @TheAnitaAlvarez Its been years since I tried Bless Me Ultima, maybe it's time for a retry. 6y

Bostonmomx2 I finished Bernadette but thought it was barely just okay. 6y
Purrfectpages @Bostonmomx2 good to know it wasn‘t just me. It‘s pretty popular! 6y

#dnfbooks #readingresolutions. Two books that I just found that I could not get into. They will either go to a used book shop or donated

JamieLou The ending of Catching Stars made me so grumpy I wished I had bailed on it. 6y

“One afternoon on a weekend in May, Dewi Ayu rose from her grave after being dead for twenty-one years…”

The opening line of the book was intriguing (and the cover is gorgeous) but after that things just went downhill for me. I struggled with it. Thinking perhaps it‘s the translation issue, I borrowed a copy to read in its original language (cover as shown on the left), but was no help.

Stephjotsdown I love the cover of the edition on the left. So thts the beauty of Dutch Indonesian Dewi Ayu 6y

It's rare for me to bail, but it can happen...

Leftcoastzen I have heard /read this often about this book. 6y
Reviewsbylola This one was tricky initially. I didn‘t end up loving it but it did get better. 6y
Eggs @Leftcoastzen Me too but I gave it a chance and... 6y

Leftcoastzen Thanks for playing😂heard this one is good but still on my TBR 6y
Eggs @Reviewsbylola Yes that's always the question of how far do you go before bailing...You are tenacious! 6y
wonderkales I really didn't like this either. I finished it but it was a chore. 6y
Eggs @wonderkales Reading needn't be a chore, but I'm proud of you for persevering 👏🏻👏🏻 6y

There are 23 books on my DNF list. Here are just a few. Mostly, I just could NOT get into them after a really good effort. Anyone loved one of these?

#ReadingResolutions #DNFBooks

Reagan I haven‘t read any of these. I have 3 DNF this year, I used to feel bad but there are just too many books! 6y
JamieArc I really liked Claire of the Sea Light, but have spent time in Haiti so I felt a connection there. Definitely bailed Frog Music, which was disappointing because I thought I was really going to like it. 6y
Liatrek This is the first year I have DNF books. I agree with @Reganreads there are to many books. I told myself stop feeling bad not every book is meant for you 😊 6y

Bookgirl None! But I do not ever bother with James Patterson after attempting two of his. His popularity baffles me. 6y
tammysue I haven‘t read these but have dnf‘d 9 this year. Not all books are for everyone. 😊 6y
Suzze @Reagan-reads @Liatrek Absolutely. The older I get, the quicker I bail. 😀 6y
TrishB The Red House was such a disappointment! I finished it but just about. 6y
Reviewsbylola I enjoyed Bumped and Frog Music was ok but certainly not Donoghue‘s best. 6y
MicheleinPhilly I really enjoyed Frog Music but I‘m an unabashed Donoghue fangirl. 6y
Deblovestoread I loved Claire of the Sea Light. I read it shortly after reading An Untamed State. I needed to read something set in Haiti that was lighter. I haven‘t read any of the others. And I haven‘t bailed on any books yet this year. (edited) 6y

#ReadingResolutions #DNFbooks

For most of my reading life , l never left a book unfinished. Even if l didn't like it, l would force myself to finish it, to give it a fair chance at surprising me.
But now, with my spare time shrinking, l found myself more willing to drop a book when it doesn't engage me.

Yeah_I_Read Aww I liked The Poppy War although it did get pretty gruesome towards the end 😬 I don‘t think we should feel so guilty about dfn‘ing books life is too short ❤️ 6y
Bookgirl I‘m working harder at bailing on books that don‘t speak to me. It‘s hard! 6y
JazzFeathers @Yeah_I_Read l read half through it, then l became just too disappointed. I was expecting something more innovating. 6y
See All 8 Comments
JazzFeathers @Bookgirl l know. But l find that if l look at my TBR it becomes easier to bail on books l'm nit enjoying 😆 ln fact, NetGalley and its expiring files havd plaid a great role in my changing habit. 6y
Yeah_I_Read @JazzFeathers I get it. I liked that it was Asian inspired bc I had been reading a lot of European-esq fantasy 6y
JazzFeathers @Yeah_I_Read Yeah, l was expecting more by the Asian setting, but in the and the story moved like so many other fantasy l've read. In this regard, l found Daniel Abraham Long Prince Quartet a lot more interedting and innovative 6y
Yeah_I_Read @JazzFeathers thanks that looks cool and I‘ve been trying to find a good fantasy series! 6y
JazzFeathers @Yeah_I_Read Welcome 😄 6y
