This is a far too long, angry diatribe that is very disjoined and poorly organised. Some chapters are all over the place while others have a followable organisation. It is unclear what this author actually believes or is even raging against. It is frustrating to read. I wanted to take her seriously, but after the first few chapters, that was rendered impossible by the book itself, by her own words.
👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

GingerAntics Apparently even reading her book is a white supremacist act (words that appear in the book, supposedly said by someone else, but she never refutes them). From her own words, she was fired from the New York Times for speaking out publicly within the company about her bosses, and she‘s claiming this was political... maybe. Or she quit because she saw the writing on the wall about her firing? 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 2w
GingerAntics Again, it‘s unclear. It is all so very unclear. If this is her standard writing style, I have a hunch about a contributing factor in her dismissal from the NYT. @TheBookHippie is 100% accurate in saying this book is unproductive. #NellieBowles #MorningAfterTheRevolution #WhatRevolution #WhatDidIJustRead #JustDont #audiobook #readbytheauthor #unproductive #exhausting (edited) 2w
kspenmoll This book sounds totally weird. Mixed up thinking?! Cloudy brain?! 2w
GingerAntics @kspenmoll honestly, she‘s angry. I‘m not sure there is much else to it. She lost or gave up her dream job, and she‘s pissed. 2w

Ruthiella Yeah, he does lean into Marian‘s unattractiveness a bit too much for the modern reader. But Marian is awesome. I love her. (edited) 2mo

Bookwormjillk @Ruthiella she is awesome. I hope he‘s not really going to leave. 2mo
ElizaMarie He can‘t leave yet! I won‘t. I‘m sure of it. 2mo
Clare-Dragonfly I find Miss Halcombe funny but annoying. Stop hating on your own gender, lady!!! With the whole “these two women are identical” thing, I‘m wondering if there will be (or already was) a twin switch… 🤔 And that letter is definitely from Mrs. Catherick, calling it now. 2mo
mcctrish @Ruthiella that paragraph almost made me spit out my drink as he rhapsodized on about her perfection and then hard stop on “oh crap she‘s ugly AF” and @Clare-Dragonfly I am not at all happy with her constant woman trashing 👎🏻👎🏻 2mo
mcctrish @ElizaMarie he has to stay 2mo
dabbe Marian outmans all men and women so far. She has no patience for what is expected in 19th-century women and for women who act out their submissive roles. Wonder how she'd get along with Sarah, Walter's sister? 🤔 2mo
Bklover @dabbe I love Marian too! I can‘t even picture her and Sarah in the same room, although it might be entertaining! 2mo
BarbaraJean @mcctrish I wonder how serious her woman-trashing is; whether there‘s a level of sarcasm to it. I‘m with @dabbe —I think she has no patience for societal expectations of women, and I read a bit of irony into the woman-trashing comments! 2mo
Ruthiella @BarbaraJean I think she‘s definitely wielding some sarcasm there. 2mo
Bookwormjillk I feel like there‘s so much an author can say about a character just by naming him Sir Percival Glyde 2mo
mcctrish @Bookwormjillk sounds like a complete wanker 2mo
Bookwormjillk @mcctrish exactly and that stands the test of time 2mo
mcctrish I‘ve woken up and I‘m still thinking about the uncle and I don‘t know whether to laugh or scream at his theatrics #mynerves they are quite the role reversal household 2mo
dabbe @Bklover 🤣🤩🤣 2mo
dabbe @BarbaraJean 🎯🎯🎯! 2mo
Bookwormjillk @mcctrish the uncle sounds like what I want to say sometimes listening to my husband chew at dinner. 2mo
Leftcoastzen The uncle ! What a handful of drama he is ! Marian is something, I do think often she is being sarcastic with the women bashing thing as she seems highly capable. I love the writing so far ! 2mo
julieclair @BarbaraJean @dabbe I didn‘t catch the sarcasm when reading it, but now that you suggest it, I totally see it!! 🎯 2mo
dabbe @julieclair 🤩🤗🤩 2mo
rubyslippersreads @julieclair @BarbaraJean @dabbe I think it must be sarcasm; I can‘t see Miss Halcombe being that self deprecating. 1mo
rubyslippersreads @mcctrish @Bookwormjillk The uncle‘s #poornerves make me think of Mrs. Bennet. #mypoornerves 1mo
julieclair @rubyslippersreads Yes about Mrs. Bennet! Although I think he‘s even worse. 😬 1mo
Bookwormjillk I finally read yesterday‘s chapters. #NoOneWouldLeaveMeAlone #MyPoorNerves So much going on! The Count- so evil! 1mo

There is literally no more evidence for her own theories than this one. This entire book is conjecture, and it‘s getting tiring.

TrishB 😁😁 4y
GingerAntics @TrishB I‘m not sure I can even call this scholarship. She‘s taken the sparse evidence that exists and claims it proves her theory, but it doesn‘t prove anyone‘s theory because it‘s like 50 pieces of a 500 piece puzzle. You can‘t even tell what it‘s a puzzle of. 4y
TrishB There‘s a very blurred line between her fiction and non fiction and so people just accept it all as fact 🤷‍♀️ 4y
GingerAntics @TrishB that is the perfect way to put it…that‘s what drives me absolutely NUTS about historical fiction and even fiction based in historical periods. People seem to forget that it‘s FICTION!!! 4y
