I usually take a break between the Seven Sisters books, but this one is in Audible Plus right now, which means I don‘t have to use a credit for it — it goes back into the regular catalog on 8/12. I have 13 hours left. At first I didn‘t like Electra — she‘s so emotionally needy — but she‘s grown on me. #audiowalk

This is my least favorite of the Seven Sisters novels, so far. The setting in Grenada and Sacromonte, among the Roma cave dwellers was interesting, but I disliked Lucia — she is self-absorbed, selfish, uninteresting and uninterested in anything but her dancing. Tiggy is more wishy-washy. I wanted to like her better than I did. #audiowalk

I‘ve got 6 hours left in this book, and so far, it is my least favorite of the Seven Sisters books. It‘s not that the story isn‘t interesting — it is — but Tiggy‘s grandmother, Lucia, is insufferable. Also, if one more character said, “¡Dios mio!” one more time, I was going to go into the audiobook and smack them. #audiowalk

Periodically I decide I‘m going to read a book that I‘ve started multiple times over the years but never finished. Those decisions led me to finally finish In Cold Blood and Moby Dick, both of which I liked. This time, it‘s Beloved. I‘ve owned it since it came out and started it many times. I bought a new copy for incentive. Next might be Clive Barker‘s The Great and Secret Show.

Ruthiella It took me a few tries to read this one too. 1w
DrSabrinaMoldenReads Among my favorite books. Best understanding for me of what it must have felt like to be a slave. 1w
KathyWheeler @Ruthiella That makes me feel a little better. My son read it quickly the very first time he read it. 😊 1w

KathyWheeler @DrSabrinaMoldenReads I‘ve loved many of her other books, so I don‘t know what my issue has been getting past the first few pages of this one. 1w
DrSabrinaMoldenReads I forgot what was in the first few pages. It‘s interesting what you say because this is actually the only book of hers that I have liked or even understood although I have plans to try others. It just resonated with me as a mother 1w
KathyWheeler @DrSabrinaMoldenReads I think that‘s what will happen to me too. In the first few pages we understand there‘s something haunting the house and the two sons leave. 1w
DrSabrinaMoldenReads Oh!! You have to read much more. Do you know about the haunting of the house yet? 1w
DrSabrinaMoldenReads And how she even got to the house? I guess it builds up slowly. 1w
KathyWheeler @DrSabrinaMoldenReads I know who haunts the house and why but I haven‘t gotten to how she got to the house yet. 1w
DrSabrinaMoldenReads It‘s not a spoiler to tell you that she just shows up. You see, it‘s intriguing. Keep reading. Keep me posted on what you think about it or want to chat. 1w
DrSabrinaMoldenReads @KathyWheeler Awesome! I would love that ! It was amazing to me that Toni Morrison could so well capture how it likely felt being a slave. 1w
Reggie Omg I just bought a hardback of The Great and Secret Show from my library for $2. I just turned a corner and there it was staring at me. Barker is a first love of reading experience for me. Hope you get to it soon. 6d
KathyWheeler @Reggie I have loved the Barker books that I‘ve read, but I have started The Great and Secret Show multiple times. Every time I pick it up, I have enjoyed it, but then I put it down and don‘t pick it up again. I don‘t understand it. 6d

I was having a nice little outdoor walk listening to The Moon Sister when, Boom! Thunder, lightning, then heavy rain. Luckily I was near a building. I had to call my son to come get me. Finished my #audiowalk at the gym. I haven‘t decided if I like Tiggy yet, but I was so sure that she would be the sister I‘d love.

I‘ve read better Bachman books. This one, to my mind, was a bit rambling and could‘ve been a short story or a novella. #LosersClub Started The Moon Sister back up on my #audiowalk.

While I liked Unshrinking, I did find some of her arguments to be a bit off. Yes, BMI is a very flawed measurement; many people who aren‘t obese end up being classified that way because of it. However, Manne seems to argue that there‘s really nothing you can do about being fat, so you might as well not bother. As a fat person, I have a problem with this. I know skinny doesn‘t always equal healthy and fat doesn‘t always equal unhealthy. ⬇️

KathyWheeler ⬆️ I am pretty healthy otherwise, but my joint issues are mostly caused by my weight. I guess, while I liked some of her arguments, I didn‘t find the whole book completely convincing. I then read Entitled and Down Girl. I liked Entitled the best. Down Girl feels like it was a dissertation at one point, and Manne‘s language isn‘t as accessible. If she wrote “epistemic” one more time, I might scream. Entitled and Unshrinking were both for #SheSaid 3w
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I read Down Girl first, and yes…very good, but does feel more academic. I still got a lot from it though. I found Entitled more “readable” and maybe that was a natural progression in writing after the first became widely read. 3w
KathyWheeler @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I think that‘s true. It‘s as if Entitled grew out of Down Girl. I liked all three of these books and got something out of each. 3w

There are two types of audiobooks for this title — one with one narrator and a dramatization with several. Both are good, but the dramatization isn‘t a big improvement over the other as most of it is through the eyes of our one murderbot. The story is good, but I missed ART, which is fair since our protagonist did too. #audiowalk

I found Shari Franke‘s account of her life and experiences with Ruby Franke —her mother, family vlogger, influencer, and convicted child abuser — to be compelling. I will occasionally watch a video with a cute baby in it; since reading Franke‘s book, I try not to do that anymore. Ruby blamed much of what she did on a woman she worked closely with, Jodi Hildebrandt, but it‘s clear that she was always abusive — Jodi just helped make it worse.

Low end of pick scale. I wanted to like this more than I did, but I could never get invested in the lives of any of the characters. Cassie is whiny and mopey; Zoe and Cherry are manipulative and care only about themselves. Also, I know Cassie is fat — I do not need to be reminded of it a million times. Since I finished this less than halfway into my #audiowalk, I switched my nighttime book, How to Seal Your Own Fate, to my walking book.

Every day, I get more enraged by something Zoe‘s done. Today, instead, I was annoyed with Cassie, Russell (Zoe‘s husband), and the band‘s managers as well. Lots of annoyance to go around. Low end of the pick scale. I‘d have liked it better if I‘d known from the beginning that it‘s really a series of interconnected perspectives of characters that will never meet, but I kept wondering when all the threads would connect. Still, it‘s a ridiculous but funny premise that Scalzi uses to also be thoughtful. Wil Wheaton, as always, is a great narrator. Continued with The Dead Zone on my #audiowalk
