I‘m SO EXCITED to be teaching one of my favorite books again after a 10 year hiatus. Finally something GOOD about this school year! Another female teacher convinced the males to read/teach it even though I‘ve been suggesting it for over 20 years 🤦🏻♀️ I gave students some brief background info & asked them what they expect from the book. One wrote, “That it will be mildly inappropriate but well written.” 🤔 #teachersoflitsy #feministclassic

My plan was to read at least two prompts each quarter for #booked2018. I somehow forgot we could skip around for the prompts, so Furiously Happy was an accident. I didn‘t realize it fit one of the later prompts until today. So, yay! I exceeded my goal! 😂

pickWhat better way to close out the first quarter #Booked2018 than with the original #FeministClassic? Mary Wollestonecraft was fighting the good fight for women's equality long before most women even considered the possibility. It's amazing, given the time, that it was published at all. It's also very sad that so much of it is still relevant. Why don't we get it by now? Oh yeah, because we don‘t all want to.
pickWhy did I wait so long to read this?!? Disturbing, scary, but unfortunately realistic-sounding, this Book had me riveted from page one. I thought the broken sentences, the short paragraphs, and even the run-on sentences worked well for this. My first Atwood, and definitely not my last!

Not the best example of feminist classic (her other books would have been a better fit) but it is a classic and there are definitely some feminist threads. I struggled through this. It had some beautifully written passages but I found the first section pretty boring. I don‘t love stream of consciousness and struggled to stay focused through the rapidly shifting perspectives.
