The Black Stallion (tagged) by Walter Farley was my favorite childhood book. Read all his horse books numerous times. Honorable mention is My Friend Flicka, Big Red and the Billy and Blaze series. Not a surprise than animal stories were my favorite.

Readergrrl Me too!!! I read the Black Stallion series so many times I could‘ve recited them! Marguerite Henry, Billy and Blaze, and so many more. I still have my first copy of The Black Stallion signed by my dad for Christmas of 1976. It holds a place of honor in my library. 🐎🩷 1w

DogMomIrene Loved the Black Stallion series too. And the movie was so beautifully shot. Thinking about all the reboots of older movies happening now in Hollywood, and I‘m wishing someone would tackle this story again, and the sequels. 1w

When I read The Eighty-Dollar Champion, last month, there was mention of the how and why Black Beauty came to be written. I decided it was finally time to read this book I've had since I was about 8.

MaleficentBookDragon I loved this book as a child. I wonder how I‘d feel about it as an adult. Maybe it‘s time for a reread. (edited) 2mo

TheBookgeekFrau @MaleficentBookDragon I learned that it was originally written for adults to highlight and warn against the abuse of work horses. From that the ASPCA was born to protect their well-being. 2mo

This horse's story was so touching and inspiring, but the writing was repetitive and dull. Only the story and history kept me from DNFing. However, the long buried horse-girl in me is glad I read it 😊🐴
