"A Nibling's revenge is terrible!"
I want this on either a t-shirt ? or my tombstone ??
Written by Lars Jansson, and the last of the collected comic strips to be illustrated by Tove. Not much to say other than, "It's the Moomins," which is all the recommendation it needs ?? ????
Much as I'm finding Vaneigem's "Contributions to the Revolutionary Struggle..." stimulating and challenging, it's also a bit dry, so having got to a natural break in the text, I'm distracting myself with a volume of Moomin comics by Tove and Lars Jansson.
It opens in winter, with the Moomins preparing for hibernation, but, of course, their slumbers are interrupted by a succession of demanding guests seeking shelter from the snow! ?️❄️?
Ahh, this one I definitely remembered! I think I must've been fonder of the beginning than the end (I used to reread books only for as long as they most pleased me, and then wander off) because I remember the beginning very vividly, but it starts fading out around when Thingummy and Bob appear.
I appreciate Moominmamma so much more than I used to.
I either never read this one or forgot most of the story, or maybe it's shorter in the comic strip versions? It's been so long. The beginning and ending seemed familiar.
I really love Moominmamma just relentlessly adopting anyone who needs a mother.
Thanks to @Monalyisha talking about the Moomin books, I decided to go and read them! And turns out that though I only remembered for sure reading Moominland Midwinter, I'm pretty sure I had remembered this one. It doesn't entirely fit what I remember about the series; I think I saw someone else mentioning that it doesn't quite fit, so I guess we'll see. It's charming all the same.
I didn‘t count these in my midyear ratings because they feel incomparable. But I‘m deeply in love and so glad I finally checked them out! They‘ll be in the upper echelon of my 2025 favorites, for sure.
Our #MidsummerSolace author, Tove Jansson, is renowned for the Moomins. Brooklyn Public Library has an exhibition to celebrate 80 years of Moomin stories.

Moominland Midwinter was my pick for February, given that I read and loved it first. But I can see Giving Up the Ghost potentially sweeping the whole board.
I‘ll tag each of the remaining books below (to make it easy for anyone who may be considering adding them to their TBR).

I‘ve felt sort of scattered and dissatisfied lately; I think those feelings have transferred to my reading life, too.
For the second month in a row, I read more than I typically do. But the vibe is off. 🙈
I did read two books I absolutely adored: Moominland Midwinter and Giving Up the Ghost. I hope that same passionate energy guides me and focuses me in March.
I‘m still reading the last two. But I‘ll be done before the clock strikes noon!
