Pickpick

Really enjoyed this conspiracy theory thriller blending science, technology, religion, art, evolution, AI, and the royal family of Spain 🙌🏻👑I think it could have been a bit shorter as some parts felt redundant...I mean did we need 8 helicopter scenes?!?! This was a #MarchMadnessChallenge sub ( Cincinnati) and #pop18 #NextbookinaSeries

Kalalalatja Wow, you read that fast! (edited) 6y
TrishB Am loving the sunny pics as winter is revisiting again here!! 6y
Cinfhen Sorry your weather is so crappy @TrishB I‘m literally spending hours outside everyday @Kalalalatja with no WiFi 🙄😝😬so I‘m busy reading 6y

RinaBrahmbhattBarot I loved this book! I sort of guessed the ending :) 6y
Melissa_J I liked this one, too. It was an improvement over Inferno that‘s for sure. 6y
emilyhaldi 8 helicopter scenes sounds like it would make me craaaaaazzzzyyyyyy!!! 🤪 6y
Cinfhen Ok, maybe just 5 helicopter scenes @emilyhaldi 😉BUT STILL.... 6y
Cinfhen @MyBookSwapClub @Melissa_J what was with the FEDEX symbol?!??? 6y

Maisie Dobbs: A Novel | Jacqueline Winspear

My #firstaudiobookof2018 is fun and light! I‘m using it for the #cozymystery prompt from #booked2018. Also #nextbookinaseries for #pop18. It‘s my #W for #LitsyAtoZ and also a #MountTBR pick. Phew!

Melissa_J Have you started? The series isn‘t a cozy one, and isn‘t light or fun. I don‘t want you to be disappointed if you‘re expecting a quick, cozy mystery 😉 6y
Andrew65 I love the Maisie Dobbs Series! ❤️ 6y
Colleenma I love Maisie Dobbs so much💕 6y

writerlibrarian I agree this is not cozy mysteries more like Miss Fisher mysteries. I love Maisie Dobbs, it has a few of my favourite things: WW1, competence, friendships that are the glue of the story. It's a good historical mystery series. 6y
PurpleyPumpkin I just started listening to this at lunch! Glad to hear that you enjoyed it. 👍🏽 6y
alisiakae Maybe my definition of cozy mystery is off, because I would consider the Maisie Dobbs series cozy! It‘s a great, fun series! Same for Agatha Christie. 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Melissa_J This was on a GR list of cozies, so I‘m calling it one so far. I read horror and seriously dark mystery/thrillers, plus urban fantasy. Nobody has been killed in the first 9 chapters, and to me, that‘s pretty damn cozy. If it shifts a little darker, I‘ll see what I think. 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @writerlibrarian I just bought the first Miss Fisher book - it‘s a Kindle Deal right now. And like I said above, so far this seems cozy enough for me. 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @PurpleyPumpkin I‘m not done yet—just about a third of the way through. Crossing fingers! (edited) 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft I think we think alike. A non-cozy will often have dead bodies by nine chapters in. This one hasn‘t so it seems cozy to me. 6y
Melissa_J @BarbaraTheBibliophage You definitely have a different definition of cozy from me 😉 Cozies, to me, are usually ‘cute‘ and light. They feature a murder or two, but don‘t delve into serious issues in any way. While this series isn‘t graphic, it deals with a lot of serious issues, especially the impacts of the war on those who survived it, and Massie herself is a very introspective heroine who is still suffering from the effects of the War. (edited) 6y
Melissa_J That said, your definition doesn‘t have to be the same as mine (cause I don‘t know that there is a standard def‘n?), but I do read traditional cozy mysteries and the Maisie series is nothing like them. Still, it‘s a great series and if you like this first book I definitely recommend you continue. I‘ll be curious for your final thoughts as this book really isn‘t about the mystery at all. (edited) 6y
Mdargusch Way to check off those challenge boxes! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 6y
writerlibrarian @Melissa_J Definitions of cozy varie but mine is quite similar to yours especially for this series because of the WW1 psychological scars and the horrors the soldiers, nurses etc lived through. 6y
writerlibrarian @BarbaraTheBibliophage YMMV it's a wonderful series and since you didn't expect cute and cozy you'll be okay. 😀 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Melissa_J @writerlibrarian I‘d love some ideas of your favorite cozy mysteries. It‘s early and I could read something different with the right idea. 6y
Melissa_J @BarbaraTheBibliophage I enjoy Laura Childs‘ Teashop Mystery series. It‘s very light and full of interesting characters. The murders are usually super easy to solve, but I enjoy how the characters get there. Plus, the series has created a strong desire in me to visit Charleston, which is where the series is set. 6y
Melissa_J Oops. Forgot to mention that the first book is 6y
minkyb I love Maisie. I have heard/seen it classified as a cozy mystery. Personally, I think it is more serious and historical. No fluff. Cozy mysteries for me have been the Maggody series (Arly Hanks) by Joan Hess, Deborah Knott series by Margaret Maron, Sharon McCone by Marcia Muller, Kinsey Milhone by Sue Grafton, Stephanie Plum by Janet Evanovich and good old Travis McGee! 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @minkyb @Melissa_J @writerlibrarian Okay friends, I appreciate your desire to school me in cozies. I‘ve done some additional research and found Maisie on several more list of cozies. I‘m going to use it as mine. Thanks. 😎 6y
minkyb Oh I would not think of schooling anybody. I was just reminiscing about some of my favorite “cozy” series‘. 🤗 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @minkyb I love Kinsey for sure. I‘ve read a few of the Stephanie Plum and Travis McGee books. 😍 6y
Melissa_J I‘m also not schooling anyone. It‘s not what “I” consider a traditional cozy is, and I was just pointing it out so that you didn‘t get to the end of the novel wondering what was cozy about it. But obviously you have a different definition and that‘s fine 🤷🏻‍♀️ 6y
Desha I‘m just curious as to what the parameters are for #mountTBR....because I definitely have a TBR stack to climb for a long time! 🤪📚 Thank you! ☺️ 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Desha Here‘s the blog about it from the organizer: https://myreadersblock.blogspot.com/2017/10/mount-tbr-2018-sign-up.html. There‘s also a group about it in Goodreads. 6y
Desha @BarbaraTheBibliophage Thank you so much! I joined the group on Goodreads! Ready for some climbing lol 👍🏻 6y
kspenmoll This is a fun series- history & mystery 6y
