Drums of Autumn
Drums of Autumn | Diana Gabaldon
It began in Scotland, at an ancient stone circle. There, a doorway, open to a select few, leads into the past--or the grave.Claire Randall survived the extraordinary passage, not once buy twice. Her first trip swept her into the arms of Jamie Fraser, an eighteenth-century Scot whose love for her became legend--a tale of tragic passion that ended with her return to the present to bear his child. Her second journey, two decades later, brought them together again in frontier America. But Claire had left someone behind in the twentieth century.Their daughter Brianna...Now, Brianna has made a disturbing discovery that sends her to the stone circle and a terrifying leap into the unknown. In search of her mother and the father she has never met, she is risking her own future to try to change history...and to save their lives. But as Brianna plunges into an uncharted wilderness, a heartbreaking encounter may strand her forever in the past...or root her in the place she should be, where her heart and soul belong...From the Paperback edition.

Book4 of the Outlander series.
Jamie remains in my top 5 least liked characters.
Clare and Jamie were not central to this story, instead Bre and Roger were. There was a lot (again) that felt unnecessary and unneeded.
At times it‘s a great story and other times just meh.
The direction that Gabaldon is going could be interesting and has potential to be really good.
Much more would give spoilers and I don‘t want to do that 😊

mandarchy Interesting that Jamie is your least favorite. I got tired of Claire. Could she just stop doctoring for one minute? I felt bad for Roger, he can't catch a break. 1mo
OrangeMooseReads @mandarchy I get tired of Claire as well. I love how fiercely Jamie loves his family, I just get tired of the controlling and need to control. 1mo
mandarchy @OrangeMooseReads I often wonder how authentic he is as an 18th C man. We'd probably hate him if he were too authentic. 1mo
OrangeMooseReads @mandarchy I wonder that too. 1mo

I finished! I finally finished! Marking this my 133rd book of the year!! 🥳🥳

I will say the first half was slower than the last. Once Rog and Bree took over the story I could barely put it down. Also, I love Lord John!! ❤️❤️ 4/5

Liatrek Lord John is such an amazing character❤️ wish they would give him a spin off show for his books. 1mo
BooksNBowls @Liatrek I haven‘t read his books yet, but I‘m definitely planning to. This book just made me fall more in love with him lol 1mo
Scochrane26 I love the Lord John books, too. They‘re good on audio & not as long. 1mo

Dedicating the rest of the year to finishing this behemoth. I think it‘s taken me all year and I‘m only halfway through. 😅 Let‘s see how much I can read during the snow storm! How is it where everyone lives? Tennessee here and it just started falling! ❄️🌨️

Series keeps getting better.

Love the new location , love the new characters, love the new circles and the new mysteries.

dabbe I am such a fan of Gabaldon's books that I refuse to watch the TV series because I don't want my conception of Jamie and Claire to be muddled in any way. (edited) 2mo
Texreader I thought the books got better as well. I watched most of the first season but it didn‘t hold my interest 2mo

#SeriesRead2022 @TheSpineView

I loved books 2 and 3, but this one left a little to be desired for me. Personally, it's the setting more than the story. This one takes place mostly in America and I just wasn't as invested. It was interesting to see the dynamics unfold when the family is finally all together through, and I'm a big fan of Ian's character after finishing this one.

TheSpineView I thought that too. I gave up on book 5. 4mo

My second finish for #SuperSeptember. This finishes my re-reading via audio of Outlander books I read many years ago. I forgot how all encompassing this book was to the Fraser clan.

I look forward to reading more of the “new” ones now.

Book #4. At the end of the book, the author says ‘this book is about fathers‘ and then dedicated it to her own. Claire and Jamie are settled in the mountains of the colonies now. Brianna struggles with thoughts of both her fathers. A lot of what-if‘s and should I or shouldn‘t I and many emotional struggles…along with the general life that goes along with pioneers staking their claim in the colonies.

IT'S DONE. I FEEL LIKE FREAKING FRODO RIGHT NOW.

This book took me almost four years to read and I finally finished it.

It's not that I don't love this series, just for some reason this book took me so long to get into and I finally just had to force myself to finish it.

BUT IT'S OVER.

Finished this one in January 🙃😬. Slowest going of the ones read so far, except for the shock of the end. Brianna and Roger, Bonnet 😡 and Ian. 😞🥲💔 Miscommunication. Hardships. Trials. Family drama. All the feels. And yet it ends on a hopeful note, so my journey continues with the next one. #recentlyread #historicalfiction #timetravel
P.S. life happened and cover got bent 😬 I wasn‘t going to post a picture of it, but decided honest = best

BookNAround I found the fifth book in the series really slow going. 12mo

Does anyone use Bookly Pro and is it worth the subscription? What features do you enjoy in the Pro version?

MsRadioSilence I love Bookly! Both my boyfriend and I got Pro, and I really like that I can add as many books as I want, and that there‘s a dictation and picture options for quotes and whatnot. iirc, the free plan doesn‘t let you do custom stats, so that‘s also a plus with pro. 13mo
BooksNBowls @MsRadioSilence thanks for the feedback. The stats part does look interesting! Seems a lot easier than making a book journal too! 13mo

I'm 47 books behind schedule and my desk is a mess, but I'm finished with this chunkster. I've already downloaded the next book and purchased the most recent (birthday present to self). So I'm on course to read 46 picture books in the next 3 weeks. I'll be more intentional next year 😉

thegirlwiththelibrarybag @mandarchy, I use birthday month logic all the time - this year on two dresses and a gorgeous nutcracker which I neglected to read the sizing information on (turns out it was expensive causes it‘s kind of big 😂) Good luck with the picture books, you‘ll be in for a visual feast! I'm re-reading the Outlander series and taking my time. I'm only in the 4th book. I'm okay with being late due the new book release. Today is the last day of harvest break and yesterday I read until the Kindle died late at night. I can't believe I woke up in time for this spectacular light show. I have all these things to do to get ready for the week, but the Kindle is recharged and Claire just got her shoes back. Clarence just got to the ridge⤵️

More Wednes op shop spoils! Planning on wearing the striped dress out on Sat night with my ballerina friend‘s for a ‘Cocktail Extravaganza‘. I got the Michelle Bridge‘s cookbook cause once upon a time my sis made an awesome chick pea curry out of 1 of her books & I‘ve been on the hunt for it ever since. 1. I just got knocked out by those stubborn scot traits coming out in full force.
2. Ian is the best character and you can‘t tell me otherwise. him and his wolf are perfect in every way.
3. Brianna is back on her BS. I can‘t w her rn.
4. I just hope Lord John Grey finds the love of his life and happiness bc he deserves nothing less

Well, I've completely gorged on these books so far but had more than one person tell me it was at this point they got bored. It transpired however, they were referring to the TV series rather than the books. Again, I find myself 200 years and continents away with our intrepid pioneers. The story lingers on even after I've read the final page - Gabaldon manages, even after best part of 1000 pages, to leave us readers hungering for more.

Not really got a book that reminds of Autumn so I chose one that had it on the title.

Yes I have picked out my Christmas reading and will post it soon (it's quite a few so I can't really list all of them here)

Last night I had a Pot Noodle, Crisps and a chocolate bar as I was at work at teatime.

🌞 No holiday TBR. I‘m a mood reader.

🌞 We have lots of leftover chicken, so I‘ll do something with that (probably just reheat it and serve it with a double vegetable, which my kids will hate).

🌞 When the news, or life, has me looking for some relief (which is a lot these days), I turn to Hallmark movies. Cheesy and awful, but oh so feel good. I‘m a sucker for a happy ending.

I‘ve borrowed this book twice now and haven‘t gotten all the way through 1) because it‘s over 800 pages and 2 weeks isn‘t enough time when I‘ve got other books to read, too! 2) maybe now that the TV series is past this, I haven‘t been as interested? But I‘m going to put ANOTHER hold on it and hope that I get it back sometime during this quarantine to finish 😜🙏
