Bk3 of July. I read this True Crime NF as an ebook on Scribd. About the Sandy Hook tragedy in 2012, the author(who is a journalist)does well to treat this with the sensitivity it deserves. Told mostly from the children & their families POV it brings them to life with their fave things & dreams of the future while also trying to understand why the perpetrator did what he did. Well told. #BookspinBingo #NonFictionBingo2021 #PennyPerPage #Pageathon

KristenDuck I think I‘d be a hot mess while reading this book 😢 3y

CarolynM Thinking of you, Liz, and sending love 💕 Hope you're doing as OK as you can right now. 3y
Lizpixie @CarolynM thanks lovely. The funeral was Thursday which was awful. Especially with these lockdown rules, there was only my four siblings & I, my dad and the eldest four grandkids able to be there, so many other family & friends were just devastated. White Lady live streamed it but it‘s not the same. I couldn‘t even sit next to my dad and hold his hand😢 3y
CarolynM I'm sorry, that's so hard😢 I hope it won't be long until your family can be together. 3y

How Much Is a Little Girl Worth? | Rachael Denhollander

Bk30 of June, Bk4 of #20in4 #readathon & Bk9 of #LittenListen is done! It‘s not the tagged book, this book isn‘t in Litsy‘s database, but it‘s about the same subject as Rachel Denhollanders book. I always knew gymnastics was full of damage to children‘s bodies & minds but that it was full of predators as well was heartbreaking. I was disgusted & weeping for all the survivors & I hope he suffers greatly in prison. #NonFictionBingo2021 👇

Bk7 of June & Bk4 of #LittenListen is done! And what a book it was. As a chronic pain sufferer who is on the patient side of this equation, I was hesitant about reading this, but I‘m glad I did. Thank god I‘m not on OxyContin myself, I would hate to think I funded this evil family! And all they‘ve done is make it harder for legitimate pain patients to get the meds they need. Shame on them. 5⭐️ #NonFictionBingo2021 #Pop21 #ChunksterChallenge👇

Bk2 of June & Bk1 of #LittenListen is done! A true crime novella on audible, set in Alaska it tells the story of Teddy Kyle Smith, an Inuit actor who after being found with his mothers dead body, goes on the run & nearly kills two hunters who stumble upon him. After capture, he tells the police that he thought they were Iñukuns, a mythic Inuit tribe living in the Arctic wilds. Told by the author, himself an Iñupiaq Inuit, it‘s very atmospheric.?

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! 3y
aperfectmjk Oooh... that sounds pretty interesting. I can't decide if I want to get Audible or not and whether it's worth it. The whole “credit“ thing seems silly. At the rate I listen to books it's not worth it to me. I may just buy some of the “Audible“ only books I'm interested in rather than throwing away money at the membership. 3y

Bk12 of May & Bk1 of #20in4 #readathon is done! Read in ebook form on Scribd, a NF about the lynching of a young African American man in Alabama in 1981. After his killers were finally convicted, his mother brought a civil case which bankrupted one of the most powerful factions in the Klan in America. I learnt a lot more about the state of civil rights in the South & how the Klan was so intertwined with power & politics. Enraging but a must read👇

Cinfhen Well done 👍🏽 Hi 🙋🏼‍♀️ xx 3y
Lizpixie @Cinfhen hi Cindy!🙋🏻‍♀️How‘s things in your neck of the woods lately? I try not to watch the news anymore, it‘s too depressing🙇🏻‍♀️ 3y

TheAromaofBooks Yay bingo!!!! 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa And 1981! What! That‘s insane, that isn‘t that long ago at all! 3y
Lizpixie @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I know right? I was shocked too, and at the fact I‘d never heard of it before. I would‘ve been 10yrs old when it happened, there‘s a heartbreaking picture of him in the tree & he‘s wearing the same pair of sneakers I had as a kid. And he was only 19😢 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Lizpixie I would have been 8, so right there with you! And yes, then they turn around and teach you all these struggles in high school about the Civil Rights Movement like it was all decades ago and long solved and over! 🙄 3y

Bk12 of April & Bk2 of #Deweys24hr #readathon is done! As an ebook it‘s also my #doublespin book of April🎉 Wow. This was one crazy story, all the more so coz it‘s true. The blatant crossing of the line where ethics, morality & the law were tossed out the window by the people sworn to uphold it is very disturbing. Not often you feel sorry for the criminals! #NonFictionBingo2021 #PickYourPoison #NerdReading2021 #AussieAuthor21 #CloakDaggerChal 👇

Bk1 of April is done.Took me a minute to finish this as I kept putting it down to cry or rant about stupid police. There‘s a reason these murders took 25+yrs to solve, the tunnel vision shown by the task force who so believed they had the suspect, they completely ignored any evidence that didn‘t fit their narrative. I was the same age as these 3 girls when they were murdered in Perth in the 90s so it‘s very personal to me. RIP Sarah, Jane & Ciara.

TheAromaofBooks Great review!! 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I‘ve been ranting about police too this week, for a totally different reason. (I‘ve been watching the Chauvin Trial here in the US)... this book sounds really good, but I‘ll stack it for a later date. 4y

Absolutely one of the best books I‘ve read on the topic and I have a lot of work to do. #AnywayYouReadathon #BCF21 #ReadHarder2021 (Challenge #2 complete!) #nonfictionbingo2021 (something by a person of color space)

Eggbeater I loved this book, too! 4y
