Dommek, an Alaskan Native of the Inupiaq tribe, shares a true crime story weaved with the legend of a mythic tribe, the lnukuns. Teddy Smith, a Native Alaskan, is at the beginning of a promising acting career when he reported the death of his mother. Teddy‘s actions that follow are unexplainable. He becomes a fugitive and when captured, claims he encountered the Inukuns in the wilderness.

Well this was not what I expected. It reminded me a bit of the movie The Blair Witch Project. The story was awkward and the narrator/storyteller was just ok. The narrator is actually telling a story about a man who killed several people in Alaska and suggests that he might be insane because he reported seeing these mythical people called the Inukuns. He was not convincing and I thought it was too much like BS. Not my thing. 3⭐

Bk2 of June & Bk1 of #LittenListen is done! A true crime novella on audible, set in Alaska it tells the story of Teddy Kyle Smith, an Inuit actor who after being found with his mothers dead body, goes on the run & nearly kills two hunters who stumble upon him. After capture, he tells the police that he thought they were Iñukuns, a mythic Inuit tribe living in the Arctic wilds. Told by the author, himself an Iñupiaq Inuit, it‘s very atmospheric.?

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! 3y
aperfectmjk Oooh... that sounds pretty interesting. I can't decide if I want to get Audible or not and whether it's worth it. The whole “credit“ thing seems silly. At the rate I listen to books it's not worth it to me. I may just buy some of the “Audible“ only books I'm interested in rather than throwing away money at the membership. 3y

Though this feels more like a podcast than an audiobook, I really enjoyed listening to this investigation into Teddy Kyle Smith‘s story. James Dommek Jr. certainly tells the story well- with a multimedia approach that includes clips from his own interviews & music to help give a matter of fact approach to some of the more beguiling aspects. It shows a different part of Alaska than us “southerners” see- this is sad & I just wanted it to keep going.

I‘m slowly adding the numerous challenges I‘ve committed to, to my bullet journal. So far I‘ve put 9 in there and still have another 5 at least to add. So much for not over extending myself in 2020! I‘m nowhere near an artist, but I‘m doing my best. #audiojournaling #jumpstart2020

Cupcake12 That‘s so organised! I‘m doing 4 and trying to keep up 📚 5y

Emilymdxn I‘m so in love with tracking my challenges I love it pretty much as much as completing them! Your spreads are lovely! Do you mind telling me what challenges you‘re doing? 5y

marleed I love your tracking. I‘m doing several annual challenges for the first time and at two weeks into the year, it‘s been a blast. I feared I might read books I didn‘t enjoy just to meet a challenge. Instead it is the opposite as I‘ve loved what I‘ve been reading! 5y
Emilymdxn @Lizpixie I would really like to join the Mount TBR 2020 challenge could you tell me who‘s running it or if there‘s a post I need to check out? 5y
TheAromaofBooks I'm also having fun putting challenges in my journal!! It's almost more fun than the actual reading! 😁 5y
Lizpixie @Emilymdxn there‘s a group on GoodReads you just join on there, decide how many books you‘ll commit to and introduce yourself in that forum post. Simple! @TheAromaofBooks I know what you mean, though trying to decide which font & border to use can be stressful!🤔 5y
Emilymdxn Thanks so much I‘ll join that right now! 5y

This was my first audiobook in years and man, was it fascinating. I now want to research the different Native American tribes found in Alaska and their folklore.

This short audiobook was surprisingly gripping. It explores the flight of a man in northern Alaska and the strange story he tells when he‘s finally apprehended — that he has encountered the mythical tribe of Iñukuns in the wilderness.

It‘s narrated well and structured more like a long podcast, with recordings of interviews and the trial.

SUCH an interesting book. Dommek explores the life of Teddy Smith, accused of attempted murder, who claims to have seen Native spirits (I can‘t spell the actual name). It‘s a great account of Native Alaskan life and culture, racism, and of course, the beauty and brutality of the land. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #impulseread #wintergames

This was an eerie story set in the vast Alaskan wilderness. Did the famous Alaskan native actor Teddy Kyle Smith really encounter the Iñukuns, a mysterious tribe of little people, or did he just make it all up as an excuse for the horrible things he did? James Dommek Jr. retraces Smith's steps to find out. It's a really engaging story with archive audio recordings.

Midnight Son refers to Teddy Kyle Smith, a native Inupiaq Alaskan who realized his dream of becoming a Hollywood actor only to snap mentally after returning home. The narration by James Dommek, Jr. was excellent - course and unfiltered. He knows the land and the nature of the Inupiaqs and you feel like you are tagging along on his quest to find out what went on. He lost me a bit at the end but otherwise the story was riveting.

A fascinating look at the culture of the native Alaskans viewer through mythology and a the trial of a native celebrity turned dangerous fugitive. The end feels a little rushed, but still worth a listen.

So I was able to listen to this during the day today at work. I really enjoyed it. I liked how it was produced with the interviews and the court proceedings, it made the story come alive. I truly enjoyed it!
