88/150 Another day, another bug hunt! Thing start out differently this time for Rade and the Argonauts, as their opponents are humans who have captured them because their colony is revolting for independence. That quickly goes out the door as giant space spiders (Arachnauts?) invade the colony. This book is here solely for the action and bug smashing, don't come looking for character development. Good mindless fun. 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Litsy handle of the sender isn‘t on it, but thank you whoever you are!
A very intense -hard at times to read- story of bravery and resilience. I could not put this book down!
Possibly a slightly different take on a #BookWithAProposal?

A bit odd of a beginning for me as it must pick up right after the previous book... which I have not read.

One of the problems with epic fantasy series is that as the story progresses and the world gets bigger, often the smaller tales slip through the cracks. In Barren, Brett brings us back into the world of his Demon Cycle and gives us a small glimpse at how the town that was the original home of Arlen Bales has progressed. Its great to return to this world and see look at how these characters have developed. Plus, plenty of demon killing action.
I actually enjoyed this sequel more than the first. The humor was slightly less sharp, but Hale did a good job of complicating some of the stereotypes that she leaned into to create humorous characters in the first book - I liked it. The story was more contained, the cast of characters remained largely the same, and the plot of the mystery was fairly light - enabling the greater character development while still keeping it a fast-paced read.
