Night Watch: A Kendra Michaels Novel 4 | Iris Johansen

The Kendra Miachell series is truly captivating. The protagonist is an intriguing blend of strength and vulnerability, a perfect contradiction that keeps you hooked. Her abilities, while extraordinary, are rooted in her humanity. I'm currently on book 6 and completely immersed in this series

I listened to the audio and it took a little while for me to get interested, but it did get better. There were a couple of twists near/at the end that i liked. Part of it wasnt believable. The audio is done by a few different narrators. I‘m not sure I noticed if each of the wives had their own perspectives or not; Diana definitely did, but I‘m not sure about the others. Cont in comments...

LibraryCin I had a bit of trouble telling whose perspective we were listening to with the women‘s voice(s). We followed perspectives from Picasso, Diana, and the detective – and at least one more 9mo

I‘m trying to be better at bailing on books I‘m not that crazy about or are ‘just okay.‘ As Long As We Both Shall Live by Joann Chaney started out well. Two timelines and a husband likely killing his wife. The lives of the investigating detectives became part of the story, it got confusing, and less interesting for me. A little more than 25% in and I decided it was time to move on.

OutsmartYourShelf Displeasing him leads to consequences not just for Marlena but he threatens her friends too & she knows he means it. You see Michael has been married before, twice in fact, & both his former wives are dead. Accidents or murder?

This is a book about a toxic marriage & abusive husband - Marlena wants out but is that all she wants? There are none-too-subtle hints from the start that there is more to the plot so the 'twist' is not really much of a 1y

OutsmartYourShelf surprise. It was also quite slow in pace until the last third when the plot suddenly exploded into life. The problem for me is that I found it difficult to like Marlena - I felt sorry for her initially - but didn't like her. Mainly because she was also manipulative with another character & put them in danger. Definitely have no wish to re-read at any point. 2⭐

TWs: sexual content, domestic abuse, violence, blood, sexual assault. 1y
