This past June I was on a layover in Jersey City and walked over to Liberty State Park where I was able to take in views not only of Lady Liberty, but also this memorial of the Twin Towers, from the New Jersey side of the Hudson. #9/11 #NeverForget #September11th

TheBookHippie I think this one is so moving. 2mo

This book was a wonderful story about how the town of Gander, Newfoundland stepped up to receive thousands of detoured passengers after the US skies were forced to close after the events of 9/11. These residents stopped what they were doing and assisted everyone with food, lodging, clothes, & whatever else they needed to make sure they were all cared for & cared about. It really showed how good people could be to one another.

4.5⭐️

I never even heard of what happened in Gander, Newfoundland, on September 11, 2001. Some of my friends on Litsy had read it and recommended it. I'm so glad they did. It's an uplifting story. It shows that there are still people in this world who will go out of their way to help people and be nice. I remember how America came together on September 11, and I wonder what has happened to us. We are such a divided country now. ⬇️

MonicaLoves2Read Why can't we all just get along?

😊 Happy Reading 😊

kspenmoll There was a wonderful Broadway musical , Cone From Away, based on this event that was also televised at some point. It was such a fabulous celebration of humanity at its best. It may still be available to stream. I cannot remember how long ago we watched it. 9mo
MonicaLoves2Read @kspenmoll I say that in the book, but didn't think about maybe streaming it. Thanks 9mo

Granted I was in 8th grade when the tragedy of September 11, 2001 happened and was sheltered from much of the news but I had never heard of Gander, Newfoundland in any other historical context even as an adult let alone the hospitality the community shared with so many when American Air Space was shut down grounding flights for days.
