Daisey I definitely did not expect time to pass as quickly as it has so far in this book. 1y
Cuilin Shout out to the beautiful writing “On a thyme-scented, bird-hatching morning in May ….. she left home for the second time” 🥰 1y

BarkingMadRead @Cuilin yes! It was so beautiful! I‘m trying not to relax though, I‘m sure it won‘t last 🤣 1y
TheBookHippie @BarkingMadRead right?! It‘s such pretty writing then you think WAIT WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN?! 1y
TheBookHippie @Cuilin the writing is wonderful. 1y
TheBookHippie I definitely don‘t remember this book well, and that passage of time went quickly! 1y
Cuilin @BarkingMadRead @TheBookHippie yes methinks we‘re being lulled into a false sense of serenity. 1y
Bookwormjillk Haha no one let your guard down 1y
Clare-Dragonfly @Daisey Same! I thought the ~loss of virtue~ thing would be the whole plot. I have no idea what else to expect. And I like that! 1y
eeclayton I've just caught up after missing several days (because life happened). It was a lot of sadness in one gulp! 1y
rubyslippersreads @Cuilin @TheBookHippie @eeclayton The writing is beautiful, but nothing says sadness like naming your doomed child “Sorrow.” 😟 (edited) 1y
Bluebird A nice break from the prior barrage of ‘what will happen next to poor Tess‘. Loved the writing, but must admit I got a bit bored…. However that doesn‘t mean I‘m looking forward to the next tragedy that will befall Tess. 🥺 1y
currentlyreadinginCO @Cuilin agreed, love the writing 💕 1y
dabbe I much admire Tess's resolve to move on and find her life. Her parents are completely worthless, and she's been through so much already, but to her, I think she was thinking that anything had to be better than where she was. However, this is Hardy (who writes a lot like Edith Wharton--beautifully!), and things can't end well for Tess--at least now now. I'm still rooting for her, though. Love her as a character. 🧡💜💛 1y
Cuilin @dabbe Agree, her parents are the worst. Tess is quite resilient. 1y
