Due to building work, I don‘t have a kitchen at the moment. It‘s not stressing me but it‘s unsettling and consuming my time. Therefore my reading had dropped right off. However, I wanted to finish Dracula today because I‘m taking my daughter @she_she to see Browning/Lugosi‘s 1931 movie at the Prince Charles Cinema this afternoon. Not much I can say about this glorious, gothic classic that hasn‘t been said already.
Enjoyed rereading this classic. Vividly creepy today & innovative and scandalous for its time. Epistolary form works for me. Finished for local library book group during FangtasticReadathon. Then discussed with book group-bucket list item. #Scarathlon #vampirebooks #31by31 #TeamWhoYaGonnaCall #FangtasticReadathon #Halloweenbucketlist
#Scarathlon #TeamCryptKeepers #PhotoChallenge day 21: vampires. Dracula has to be the most famous. Many books and movies exist about him. I love the graphic version of this.
For the Dracula nerds! (Me, I‘m the Dracula nerd.) I‘ve been growing my own Hungarian paprika this year and these are finally ready to dry! Now I just have to find a good vegetarian paprika hendl recipe 🤷🏻♀️🧛🏻♂️
Was going to treat myself to something from Out of Print's horror collection, but they no longer ship outside the US 😖 TRAGIC... although my bank account is less devastated than I.
These are always such fun…but also often showcase how indecisive I am. I can‘t choose between pumpkin spice and hot chocolate! (And if apple cider had been on here, I‘d have picked it too.) I love all the seasonal beverages!
There are at least a few preferences I am clear about though: witches and vampires! 🧙♀️🧛🏻♂️

I am participating in the Dracula Daily Substack this year. They email you the passages from each corresponding day from the epistolary novel. It began May 3rd. This is my first read. Interesting factoid: Dracula has a mustache in the novel. Whodathunk?

In hour 4 of the readathon, I continued reading Dracula. The stakes are high and it's hard to put it down, but I'm going to take a little break to listen to an audiobook soon! #hour4 #readathon #deweysreadathon @DeweysReadathon
Hour 2 of the readathon - checking off "book + tea" on my personal bingo card for the day! I'm enjoying the part of this book where the group's all teamed up and ready to take on Dracula, let's gooo ? #readathon #deweysreadathon @DeweysReadathon
Who else is joining in Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon today? I'm joining from the SF Bay Area in California, U.S. and starting the readathon with Dracula, which I've been chipping away at since October. I'm most excited for reading Babel and eating blueberry scones 😋 and hopefully finishing up some of the many books I'm currently reading! #openingsurvey #readathon #deweysreadathon @DeweysReadathon

Just signed up for this! Perfect timing as Vampires are the theme of what #GroupV is reading for #LMPBC! Such a fun idea and will make reading this classic as it happened super easy!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!! 🎃❤️🧡💛🎃❤️🧡💛🎃
I hope everyone is having a great day, full of fun and spooky books! From this stack of books it's not very hard to tell what my favorite type of monster is! 😂 #dragonsoflitsy
Little Dracula 🧛♂️🌙
This edition of Dracula might just be my favorite so far! 🖤❤️🖤❤️🖤 Not only are the illustrations wonderful, but it has a great introduction as well! 💕📚 #catsoflitsy #littenkitten #rumpel
Spooky read of the day! Hoping to finish tonight for #TeamMonsterMash #Scarathlon2022 #Dracula #Vampire
Hoping to get some reading done if the morning is slow at work 🧛🏻♂️ 💋 🦇
Day 8 of #scarathlondailyprompts is vampire. Pop culture is flooded with vampire stories. Every author puts their own spin on the mythology. I was curious how Stoker wrote the rules in the first novel about a vampire. I read Dracula five years ago, and it was not quite what I expected. I gave it 4/5 stars. #TeamSlaughter #scarathlon
I think my #Scarathlon2022 tbr might be a bit ambitious but we're gonna make it work!

Did some catching up on #DraculaDaily today and read days 9/17-9/21!

An enjoyable spooky story, very slow paced until the end when everything unravels. I enjoyed the various POVs through journal entries, and the way the characters interacted. Overall, okay if you can stick to it.
“Listen to them, the children of the night. What music they make!” -Bram Stoker | Inspired by spooky, moonlit nights full of the Children of the Night, this candle is a combination of sandalwood, light fruits such as apple and pear, exotic florals, patchouli, vanilla, and a touch of orange. The scent is how I imagine a dark night full of moonbeams and magic might smell. #bookishcandles

As today is my bday, I thought I'd post a snippet from Mina Murray's Aug 13th journal entry. Also, if u haven't heard of Dracula Daily, check it out!
13 August.— Again I awoke in the night, and found Lucy sitting up in bed, still asleep, pointing to the window. I got up quietly... Between me and the moonlight flitted a great bat, coming and going in great whirling circles... 🦇
#OnThisDay in 1897 Bram Stoker's Dracula was published. Eight days earlier, Stoker had presented a stage adaptation of the novel in order to publicize his forthcoming novel and to secure the copyright. While the book sold reasonably well, it did not become a huge seller until the film adaptations began. Today, Dracula is the most-filmed fictional character ever (can anyone guess who comes in second?) #HistoryGetsLIT
Wasn‘t expecting such fashion detail! #draculadaily
“The strangest figures we saw were the Slovaks, who were more barbarian than the rest, with their big cow-boy hats, great baggy dirty-white trousers, white linen shirts, and enormous heavy leather belts, nearly a foot wide, all studded over with brass nails. They wore high boots, with their trousers tucked into them, and had long black hair and heavy black moustaches.”
#draculadaily starts with Jonathan Harker wanting every recipe ever and criticizing the local women for being "clumsy about the waist"
I really want to know what that means! How do I know if I'm clumsy about the waist?
“There are darknesses in life and there are lights, and you are one of the lights, the light of all lights.” Saw a beautiful copy of Dracula at a local bookstore and I‘m still itching to go back for it even if I have two copies of this novel 😅

Thanks for the tag @TheSpineView & @TheNeverendingTBR !
1- I enjoy reading classics. I read several as a teenager, but haven‘t so much as an adult. I would like to read more.
2- I read Crime and Punishment when I was younger and liked it. So more Dostoevsky. Anna Karenina and War & Peace by Tolstoy. I haven‘t read Jane Austin so I would like to see what the hype is about. I plan to read Carmilla this year.
Took the second half of the day to do some housework and to finish my revisit of Dracula after 11 years. I'm surprised to find that my response to the characters is just as emotional now as it was then--- only perhaps more matured by time and experience.
This stunner was at the bookstore today - an edition I had yet to see of one of my most favorite books EVER.
It has a velvety cover, and bats along the sides, and of course Edward Gorey illustrations. It‘s so gorgeous!!! 🖤❤️
