I feel so vindicated reading this. You cannot raise your children to just not be introverts. Think of the quiet desperation children could spend their lives in if forced to be extroverted because their parents dislike introversion that much? GingerAntics @wanderinglynn actually yes. I had a doctor that raised both of her children like it was horribly offensive to be introverted. She tried getting me to change. She said I just needed to decide to be happier with large groups of people and I needed to go to more parties. 🙄 7y

GingerAntics @wanderinglynn probably not. My parents even used to push me to be more outgoing, so not all of it is as overt as my doctor. I don‘t do parties. I‘m just massively awkward at them, and I‘m just waiting for them to be over. 7y

Totally understand now why this book is not offered as CE credit. It doesn‘t unerringly support this new “collaborative learning” groupthink BS that is so popular in education these days. Never mind that it deprives children of independent thought. We‘d hate for them to think for themselves. They will make horrible employees in the future if they have any thoughts of their own. 🙄 #quiet #susancain #introvert

MelAnn I hated this book - I‘m an introvert and I didn‘t relate to most of the bullshit in it. Stuff she covers often falls under personality type that reaches beyond just introversion. 7y

GingerAntics @MelAnn I‘m not sure I‘d called it bullshit. She definitely says nothing is going to apply to everyone. In this case, I‘m just happy to see numbers that correspond to what I‘ve seen in the classroom with all of the “collaborative learning” bullshit. I‘ve gone and looked up additional studies, and they all say about the same thing, so my original point remains, I have no idea why group work is the hot thing (now or ever). 7y

GingerAntics @MelAnn yeah, the groupthink thing is insanity. Then again, someone pointed out that the education system isn‘t broken it does exactly what it‘s supposed to do. It produces a workforce that never asks questions, just does as their told, and plays nicely. 7y

When I was a kid, this is what we learned about in Girl Scouts. These were the corner stones of the entire organisation (maybe not reputation). Even at leadership camp, these were central to everything. Lord only knows what they‘re learning now.

Wellreadhead @GingerAntics Exactly! I can‘t even count the number of times I‘ve been told that I need to be more extroverted in order to succeed in life, but this book tells a different story. 7y

GingerAntics @Wellreadhead ME TOO!!! I even had a medical doctor that was raising her kids as if being introverted was a great sin, and told me I just needed to adjust to being around people more. She acted like it was a character flaw I could change. I‘m so glad she‘s not my doctor anymore, and I‘m so glad I found this book!!! 7y
