Dark tale of betrayal and secrets. It's Gothic suspense at it's best. This family drama has a twisty plot and intriguing characters that keep the pages turning until the final twist. It's rich in historical detail of high society in New York in 1899. This was my first book by Lauren Willig but I definitely will be reading more of her books in the future. I would highly recommend this book to those who love suspenseful historical novels.

I decided I am going to get The English Wife, The Wife Between Us, and The City of Brass. I have a book credit and my husband said he will pay for the third book as a present. 6y

I also have a few credits so I'm trying to decide between these two and the Chalk Man with City of Brass as my BOTM pick and two others as extras. I am surprised that BOTM has so many suspense/thrillers picked for December. 6y

The_Heeler_Booklife @felinesandfiction I honestly don‘t know what genres they go with every month. I do agree that there are a lot of suspense/thrillers this month. Usually I avoid that genre, but I‘ll just go out of my comfort zone. At least they have a fantasy book in the mix this month. 6y
