Pickpick

Dark tale of betrayal and secrets. It's Gothic suspense at it's best. This family drama has a twisty plot and intriguing characters that keep the pages turning until the final twist. It's rich in historical detail of high society in New York in 1899. This was my first book by Lauren Willig but I definitely will be reading more of her books in the future. I would highly recommend this book to those who love suspenseful historical novels.

SW-T I like her Pink Carnation series. She also has a collaboration out 6y

This #botm pick was just great: it has mystery, some surprising twists, nice back and forth between the “present” (late 1890s) and past, and some strong points of view. The English Wife might be great for readers who enjoy #katemorton.

Laalaleighh Her Pink Carnation series is so much better. 6y
UnabridgedPod @Laalaleighh Really!?! I‘ll have to add it to my list—I thought this was pretty good. 😀 6y

Laalaleighh Yes! Its such a comfort read for me! The writing is just as good but the stories are much much better! 6y
Laalaleighh Not that this was bad! I just think if you liked this you‘ll love her series! I probably could have worded it differently haha. 6y
UnabridgedPod @Laalaleighh Gotcha. Just added the first book in Pink Carnation to my list! 6y
Laalaleighh Hope you enjoy it!!! 6y

This was a slow starter for me, but really good in the end! I didn‘t see that coming! Lauren Willig is a great writer and this departure from her previous works is successfully carried out. Well drawn characters, mysterious histories, and a slow and steady reveal make for a gripping who ‘dun it. #stmartinspress #laurenwillig #historicalmystery #theenglishwife #recommended

Which book should I choose for my add on for #BOM? I usually am not a thriller/mystery/suspense fan, but want to push myself out of my comfort zone. #bookofthemonth #choices #help #theenglishwife #thewifebetweenus #botm

Rachbb3 I think I'm going with The English Wife, it sounds good! 7y
Alfoster Ok, but The Wife Between Us was so good!(but keep in mind I love thrillers)!😍 7y
The_Heeler_Booklife @Rachbb3 it does sound super good. It sounds like it has a Rebecca vibe. I was going to choose The City of Brass as my book this month, then add an add on since this month is free for me. 7y

The_Heeler_Booklife @Alfoster I‘ve heard great things about it too! I heard it will be a movie as well. I usually stick to fantasy books and really need to start branching out. 7y
Alfoster This one might seem a little like fantasy!😆😆 7y
melrailey I thoroughly enjoyed The Wife Between Us. 7y
The_Heeler_Booklife @melrailey good to know. 😊 I heard it has good plot twists. 7y
Kappadeemom I loved The Wife Between Us! 7y
The_Heeler_Booklife @Kappadeemom yay! That‘s awesome. Would you recommend it people who don‘t usually read suspense? 7y
Kappadeemom @allthingskayla I think so. But it was twisty 😜 7y
The_Heeler_Booklife @Kappadeemom good to know. Twisty can be a good thing though. 7y
stuck.in.the.stacks I an strugging deciding between these as well. I think I'll pick The Wife Between Us but the cover of the English Wife is gorgeous and also sounds so interesting! 7y
The_Heeler_Booklife @felinesandfiction the English Wife gives me Rebecca vibes. And I am a huge fan of Daphne Du Maurier‘s Rebecca. I decided I am going to get The English Wife, The Wife Between Us, and The City of Brass. I have a book credit and my husband said he will pay for the third book as a present. 7y
stuck.in.the.stacks @allthingskayla thanks for the perspective. I am still torn. I think The Chalk Man sounds fascinating as well! I also have a few credits so I'm trying to decide between these two and the Chalk Man with City of Brass as my BOTM pick and two others as extras. I am surprised that BOTM has so many suspense/thrillers picked for December. 7y
The_Heeler_Booklife @felinesandfiction I honestly don‘t know what genres they go with every month. I do agree that there are a lot of suspense/thrillers this month. Usually I avoid that genre, but I‘ll just go out of my comfort zone. At least they have a fantasy book in the mix this month. 7y
stuck.in.the.stacks @allthingskayla I feel like they nornally have more of a variety but I'm okay with going out if my comfort zone as well. I had my fingers crossed that City of Brass would be their fantasy pick. I am so stoked about it! 7y
The_Heeler_Booklife @felinesandfiction a few days before I saw the spoilers I saw some people talking about The City of Brass, so I was hoping it would be a pick this month. 7y
TheBookStacker I really enjoyed the wife between us 7y
