Each October, my two best friends and I spend a weekend at a cottage #UpNorth for a reading retreat. We do take walks and enjoy the outdoors and have the occasional heart-to-heart; but primarily we sit in companionable silence and tear through as many books as we can. It's my favorite, most indulgent weekend of the year, and though it's still a couple weeks away, I'm already beginning to make my book selections for the trip! #MittenLitten

I loved this collection of six novellas, all revolving around the inhabitants of a strange little town called Goblin. Everything in the book is just delightfully weird. I also felt the short stories were very well done; they reminded me, skill-wise, of Stephen King‘s old school and excellent short story collection Night Shift. Each story left me wanting more. #netgalley #arc Photo credit to my daughter #petoskey #puremichigan #upnorth

Had a wonderful trip in #northernmichigan with my family! I don't think there's anything better than sitting by a lake #upnorth with a good book 🏖️📚

HeathHof We recently got back from Traverse City and are planning a trip to Mackinaw City for early October! #UPNorth is heaven on earth!🤩 4y
carmens.library @Mynameisacolour This picture is from Suttons Bay (Traverse area) and we're planning to go to Mackinaw in September! 4y
AmyK1 Northern MI is one of the best places to be in the summer. I grew up about 45 minutes south of TC. 4y
aperfectmjk We're headed up to Frankfort, MI next weekend, can't wait! My husband and I love MI. It's a very relaxing vacation. 3y
JamieArc I take a solo trip to Northport for my birthday every January. Even in the winter, it‘s beautiful. I always go to Sutton‘s Bay for the bookstore 😊 11mo

After Alice: A Novel | Gregory Maguire

Trying to pick which books I should pack for a weekend trip #upnorth 📚💼 I can't ever narrow it down and always end up packing way more books for my trips than I could ever actually read! This is a book I've been meaning to read for so long and have yet to get to, so I'm thinking it might be a good one to bring along. I've read the Wicked books and enjoyed them, but I haven't read anything else by Gregory Maguire yet.

This is for both the #father and #mother prompt! #readingresolutions I grew up fishing in the north woods of Minnesota, and my uncle LOVED Gary Paulsen. I used to read excerpts of this book and many others to him. #fishing #reading #upnorth #readoutloud @Jess7

It was appropriate listening material on my way #upnorth to see my fam in Minnesota. Another great Backman novel focusing on hockey and life in a small town.

RebelReader Minnesota ❤️ 6y
ErinC @RebelReader I agree wholeheartedly! My husband and I are hoping to move there next year! 6y
RebelReader @ErinC What part of MN are you hoping to move to? 6y
ErinC @RebelReader the Twin Cities! My parents recently moved to Anoka, my brother and his family are in Brooklyn Park, and my sister and her family are in Lino Lakes. They also have a cabin near Grand Rapids. We just need to find jobs to get us up there! 6y
RebelReader @ErinC. I Live in Golden Valley so not that far away from Brooklyn Park. 😃 6y

Me (in white), cousins, and aunt on beach in Glen Arbor. *sigh*

1. Traverse City/Glen Arbor, Michigan. So beautiful!! 🍒🍒🍒
2. Pasta of some variety
3. Back to Australia/New Zealand
4. Listening to The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, about to start Butterfield 8.
5. I like all three for different reasons. Especially partial to mass market PBs for some strange reason.

#humpdaypost

Yeah_I_Read I love mass market pb's I wish more books were in that format. They are easy to carry around and generally not awkward or heavy... even the big ones! 7y
AlaMich @Yeah_I_Read Yes! And there's just something about the way they feel to hold...??‍♀️ Now I sound weird. Also, since almost all the books I read as an adolescent/teenager/"new adult" were PBs, so I guess there's that familiarity. 7y
Yeah_I_Read @AlaMich not weird at all! I totally get it. And I remember a time when most paperbacks were of the mass market variety 7y

Happy #IPADay! I'm enjoying this Fine! I IPA from Big Wood Brewery in White Bear Lake, MN. My sister sent it home with us from our #upnorth vacation last month. I'm also enjoying this book. I have checked it out several times but never got it started before it was due back. Here's to finishing both! 🍻

LeahBergen Cheers! 🍻 7y

You gotta love a bookstore that arranges the books so you don't get a permanent cramp in your neck from looking sideways at the titles. 👍#thebookiejoint #traversecity #upnorth #michigan
