I have two months' worth of #foodandlit to read, only one buddy read for #littensloveromance, some #YApril books that may help me make some #seriesread progress, and lots of optimism. Here's hoping April is a kick-ass reading month for all of us!

I associate April with cherry blossoms. The white buds are forming in my neighborhood, and I'm thrilled for the pink petals to make their debut.

Pickpick

As the second book in the Lady Janies series, My Plain Jane lacks the spark of ridiculousness that was present in My Lady Jane. Perhaps spoofing/retelling Jane Eyre lends itself to a more rigid set of events, where book one was free to pilfer from various historical interpretation and loosely kept records.

Here we meet Jane Eyre, who is being courted by the Society for the Relocation of Wayward Spirits, keeping this one in line with the⬇️

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick supernatural plotlines. It was funny and a few times I cackled pretty hard, but the middle of this book felt a little slow and droll to me. Some jokes benefit those of us who read Jane Eyre, but maybe this would have felt fresher if I didn't just read Bronte's source material. It's fun and modern, with the same sort of snarkiness & contemporary social commentary that made book one so enjoyable, it's just turned down⬇️ 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick a couple of notches here.

I was really hoping to squeeze one more in for #YApril but I only managed these two. Coincidentally both books were set during the World War‘s and both had interesting narrators, Greek Gods and a ghost.

Allylu No worries. Lovely War is on my TBR. Thank you for joining in on #YApril! 4y

Read 15 books in April! Still way ahead of where I used to be. Not as much fun as #MiddleGradeMarch, but a successful #YApril in my opinion. I read 9 YA books, finished 5 of the 6 prompts for Spring #BOOKED2021, 3 books for the #DisabilityReadathon and decided to continue reading books with disabled authors or MC each month, read 6 of the 7 prompts for #ThankfulAthon. Also added 15 books to my quest of reading 100 books this year! A good month!

Mehso-so

A #Booked21 #Hear/Here overachiever: I listened to this book set in an unnamed NJ town, speculated to be nearby Westfield (where the author was born.) Mentions of going down the shore and taking the train to the city felt familiar to me.

I was really hoping to enjoy this one, but it was just MEH. Fifteen year old Lucy's life is disrupted when she finds out her father had a brief affair and she has an 8 year old brother living IN TOWN. 😲⬇️

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick There was some promise of good family dynamics, but Lucy was very one-note regarding the infidelity. I mean, with her angry outbursts early and often, I almost thought that SHE was cheated on. Yes, teens have lots of hormones and I remember feeling like the world was ending, but Lucy was rather shitty to her parents the rest of the way through. Scenes with her grandfather improved the book to average but more interaction with her sister ⬇️ 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick might've added more depth and another viewpoint on the situation.

Found this listed in one of my many searches for Young Adult novels in verse. It was written in poetic form, but actually a love story alternating between the characters as teenagers and ten years after. A quirky plot that centers on how views of love change as we mature. I‘ll go ahead and include it in #YApril -Book 19 #poetrymatters @Eggs
