Hi everyone, I‘m switching all my bookish activity over to goodreads. Feel free to send a friend request my way if you‘d like to keep up with my literary adventures! I hope some of you will add me so I can keep up with your reading recommendations as well! :)

Indian Killer: A Novel | Sherman Alexie
Pickpick

This was a required read for my Native American literature class but it was so good I would have enjoyed reading it without having to! I‘d definitely recommend it, but I encourage you to buy it second hand or borrow it if you‘d like to read it so that Alexie does not profit from it, recent sexual assault allegations against him have surfaced and I would not feel comfortable supporting him in light of this.

I‘m really not sure why this book‘s rating is so low?? I throughly enjoyed reading it and I can‘t wait to pick up the next one!

The Great Gatsby | F. Scott Fitzgerald

Pickpick

Back in November my love & appreciation for The Great Gatsby was renewed. I had a blast getting to take on the role of Jordan Baker in a play adaptation. My love for Gatsby grew so much having gotten to bring it to life. Specific characters that I didn‘t appreciate I‘ve grown to love, I used to hate Daisy, I felt like she had no redeeming qualities but the actress I worked with brought a new dimension to Daisy that caused me to grow to love her.

I ugly cried. Oh I ugly cried so much. The last two chapters of this book were one continuous sob. It was SO SO good. I would not advise reading it in public... at least not the end.

I wanted so badly to like this. I loved the idea behind it... I just couldn‘t get into it :(

Melli I kinda felt the same way but I‘m gonna give it another go at a later date 6y
Bookishbroadway @Melli yeah, I‘m thinking about giving it another go as well. Maybe it‘s just bad timing... 6y

Just a quick life update: I graduated! And I decorated my cap with my final role of high school musicals, I was Gertrude McFuzz in Seussical the Musical🎭💙 I loved Dr Seuss growing up and to be in the show reminded why I loved him so much and renewed that love📚 (ps the feather is the actual tail I wore in the show... it also made it through prom)

Pregnant Pause | Han Nolan
Pickpick

I was hesitant to rate this book as a pick. It probably more accurately falls somewhere between pick and so-so, I wanted to like it from the start but it didn't pull me in immediately. Actually, I nearly gave up on it several times but boy am I glad I didn't, the final section of the book was worth the wait! This isn't a good book to pull you out of a reading rut but if you're ready to dive in, give this book a go.

A beautiful and hilarious recount of Debbie Reynolds' antics with friends. Bittersweet to read from beginning to end; starting with a foreword written by Carrie Fisher and ending with Debbie's hopes for the future.

So sad. Very real. It raises questions we as a society should be raising. This book is a great discussion starter. This book hit very close to home for me, as a current high school senior, living in a small town.

The Awakening | Kate Chopin
Mehso-so

I had to read this for AP Lit and as excited as I was, I loved the idea, I was very disappointed. The execution was nowhere near what it could have been. Excellent idea behind the story, poor execution. I found the writing very dry.

BookishMarginalia I think Edith Wharton is very much an acquired taste, just like Henry James. (Both took me a few rereads to appreciate!) (edited) 7y
Bookishbroadway I think I was most disappointed because I've loved almost all the other books we've read this year, and I hated the ending. I understand the symbolism of her drowning herself but I feel like the book was such an opportunity to show a woman of that time period going against traditional roles/what was expected of her (which she did) BUT also be happy and successful. 7y

The Female of the Species | Mindy McGinnis

This book is very good so far, it's told from multiple perspectives which was kind of annoying at first but later proves to benefit the book. It's an interesting look inside the mind of a teen whose sister was raped and murdered and how she handles a "normal" life after the fact.

I had to read the this summer before my freshman year and I LOVED it. It was so unique, using death as the narrator and painting death as tired and gentle as opposed to a terrible ominous presence. Highly recommended!
