This book was a bit of a rough read, and in a very interesting way. The story is set over a span of 54 minutes and each chapter is a break down of that time, following 4 different students in the school.

I finished this book on vacation and it was very emotional. It highlights a lot of heavy topics in a short time, but topics that need to be talked about. I enjoyed this book a lot, but I may find it hard to read again, unless I want a good cry. Easy fast read, but be prepared.

⭐️4/5
This book seems to be a love/hate it novel. The reasons I‘m giving it a high review is because sometimes I think messages being consumable by the public is more important than craft and I cried through almost all of it.
The author looks at school shooting through multiple POVs and while the victims voices muddle together, what‘s important to me is that the shooters history is slowly revealed, but never in a way that forgives him. (Comments)

hjreviews The shooter isn‘t just evil but his abuse and bullied background aren‘t used to say “Oh poor him”. I think school shootings are complicated in nature but one thing this book does is really bring it back to the lives it destroys: the kids in school, their families, and the community. 6mo
hjreviews It‘s been a while since I read it (with family in education and family in law enforcement I get a little too close to these matters), so with more space I don‘t have everything as fresh in my mind, but I also get the perspective of what you‘re really left with after this book: and it‘s a sense of urgency for change. Which seemed to be the authors goal, making the book well done overall, in my opinion. 6mo
Soubhiville Great review! I‘ve had this in my kindle for ages. It might be time to read it. Thanks! 6mo

This was such a tough book to read but really well written and just a story that consumes you once you start. It‘s a very realistic view of a school shooting from varying perspectives as it is happening. Excellent writing and it of feeling - just very sad and hard to realize that this is a reality of our world.

So I just finished This is Where it Ends. I loved it! It was an extremely emotional read. It came highly recommended to me by alot of people but on Goodreads there were some not great reviews because the shooter was a "classic villain" and didn't have much depth. But the book was more heart wrenching because it focused on the victims and what they were feeling and the guilt and sadness surrounding this tragic event. I highly recommend reading it!

I found this to be gripping and a very relevant book (unfortunately) for today.

Told from several perspectives with an intense minute by minute timeline, readers experience the events surrounding a school shooting.

The only downfall is the final few pages (could have been better, or more appropriately, written). However, this served its purpose as a young adult book on a very difficult topic.

Wow. Haunting, beautiful, heart breaking. Completely unforgettable. As a high school teacher, this story spoke directly to one of my greatest fears. You always think, “Not at my school,” but you can‘t really know. I‘m always so impressed with authors who dare to address scary, controversial topics and do so with such grace and power.

Read this pretty quickly, it‘s been on my Kindle TBR for a while. It was entertaining but I didn‘t love the book. Felt like a complicated topic for how it was treated but also maybe that was the point- to show how useless these acts of violence are. I have to say though I didn‘t love the characters, and I didn‘t enjoy the ending either.

Disappointing book mostly because it promised so much. I‘m not the target audience, however, and this book might be just what teen readers need. These young readers may find the book thought provoking. Anything that sparks teens to discuss mental illness, bullying, sexual violence, and gun violence has some value. I found it frustrating in its exploitation of horrific events. But it is a conversation starter and that counts for something.

Why does this book seem like it‘s a story of a school shooting as told by V.C. Andrews?? There are horrible incesty rapey vibes and then all this talk of dancing. It‘s striking me as very Flowers In the Attic meets Columbine. 🤢

GAH!! I know this is a work of fiction but this makes me angry. I am the daughter of a retired volunteer firefighter, and when 2 men from the department were killed, we had an insider look into reporters. This takes me back there. This is such a hard review to write. I had heard so much about this book and I couldn‘t wait to read it but I am so disappointed. This book had so much potential to be this gritty, raw, powerful book with it being about a school shooting but instead I found it dry and boring. It‘s told from different POVs that change so often I had no idea who was speaking or anything about the characters. I got 50 pages in before giving up. Disappointed #YA

This is a 🌟🌟 star book for me. Maybe it is because I am a high school teacher or maybe it is because of the recent school shootings, but this book left a bad taste in my mouth. Totally unbelievable as to how students and teachers and police would act in an active shooter situation. I simply finished because it was a quick read, but otherwise it was like watching a train wreck.

I can‘t provide a coherent review of this book right now. Too many thoughts, and none of them pleasant. But I don‘t recommend this book and read it as quickly as possible so that I would never have to open it again. If you want to be triggered by a slew of things...this book is for you.

monkeygirlsmama Aww that‘s a bummer. I reviewed this one when it first came out and remember really liking it, despite the awful subject matter. Well, just goes to show not every book works for everyone. Hope your next read is more enjoyable for you! 🙃 (edited) 2y
AllenTStClair @monkeygirlsmama True that. Not every book will suit everyone. But I‘m glad you shared your thoughts so hopefully my “review” is counterbalanced. 🤣 2y
Kappadeemom I just read it and didn‘t really enjoy it either. It wasn‘t the subject matter that bothered me so much (I expected it) but to me, it just wasn‘t that interesting. It was slow and repetitive (I guess trying to build suspense) but it didn‘t work for me. 2y
See All 6 Comments
AllenTStClair @Kappadeemom I thought it was an exciting page turner...but I felt that such a terrible topic was sensationalized to sell books. And things such as a 17/18 year old school shooter being written like a comic book villain, forced diversity, unrealistic heroics, and every character having a supremely tragic back story was just ridiculous. But...maybe I‘m just in a mood today. 😂 (edited) 2y
