What an emotional rollercoaster ride. 3/5 ⭐️ Not the most enjoyable reading experience but I see why almost everyone likes it.

Suet624 It was a so-so for me. The romance, in particular, seemed very over-the-top. 1mo

Fantastically written memoir. It functions on several levels, most notably on an emotional, societal and political level, as the author describes her personally particular plight of being a modern woman living in her body in a man‘s world...[Review continued in the comments]

boozybookworm After enduring years of embarrassing catcalls and unwanted attention from the opposite sex as a young woman living in America and eventually abroad, Edelstein eventually comes to accept that her breasts often define her in ways that she‘s not entirely comfortable with. 1mo
boozybookworm What makes her story interesting is that her discomfort is often tempered with the realization that she quite enjoys her breasts and their larger-than-life presence. In other words, she knows that while they bring her unwanted attention and circumspection, they also provide her erotic and emotional joy. 1mo
boozybookworm Just when she‘s coming to terms with the impact her breasts have had on her emotional and mental health, and the ways she‘s been able to provide for her children as a breastfeeding mother, she‘s given a heartbreaking diagnosis that changes her breast journey forever. The memoir is broken up into three sections, “Sex,” “Food,” and “Cancer,” highlighting the specific ways her breasts have been categorized throughout her life. 1mo

boozybookworm This was a deftly-written memoir about one woman‘s struggle to accept herself and her body, as she ventures through uncharted territory in each of these life phases. I highly recommend this memoir to any person who wants to better understand the impact that our bodies can potentially play in the public and private spheres. I am so happy that I was able to read this book, and I am happy to give it 5 full stars. 1mo
Suet624 Fantastic review. I‘ll be on the look out for this one. 1mo

I hesitate to mark my posts as containing spoilers. Does that keep some people from viewing the posts, I wonder. Of course, I don't post spoilers in the first place but I do find that I personally skip over posts that are marked that way. Just wondering...

Enchanted_Bibliophile I also tend to skip anything marked as spoilers, except if I've read the book already. 3mo

wtf...I liked it tho. 4/5 ⭐️ Grotesque. Satirical. Murderous. And yet, meaningful and full of beautiful writing. MC is meant to be unlikeable but as the back story unfolded, I started to understand her mental situation and lifelong struggles. She does things...in the name of "beauty" and staying young. And finding a sense of self. Gross. But good. Makes you think about certain things no one likes to talk about.

Supporting Alabama authors by reading the tagged book.

Synopsis:

"In an immersive Southern Gothic with echoes of Shirley Jackson's The Lottery, a restauranteur lured by pandemic-era incentives moves her family to a seemingly idyllic small town in Georgia, only to discover a darkness lurking beneath the Southern hospitality and sun-dappled streets..."

It's got those eerie vibes (chapter 10, p 91)

3 / 5 🔥 Finished yesterday. Pushed myself through. I still don‘t know if it‘s a successful parody (praiseworthy reviews say that was the point of the book) or just Liberal garbage (there are some bad reviews too). It's really up to the reader. The whole thing felt icky and overdone, which I guess was the point. Yet I still finished it. It's somewhere between a Pick and So-So.

Life finally includes an iPad. Found an older generation for cheap on marketplace. Love the setup for ebooks and podcasts. Much more accessible than the Kindle just saying.

PurpleyPumpkin Recently, I was thinking of buying a Kobo or Kindle to use strictly for reading. I was drawn to the screens that are said to be easier on the eyes. But when I saw how small they are, I decided to stick with my iPad. At least for now. Congrats on your new-to-you iPad!😉 (edited) 4mo

102 pages. Really enjoying this coming of age story set in New Delhi. So much excitement, exploration, expectation and equal measures of heartache and disappointment in these male and female characters. Everyone seems fully come to life, especially emotionally. I can‘t imagine where the author is taking these characters, and that‘s the best part.
