I just can‘t.

Hazel2019 Gotta give me some more..I was thinking of getting it but sounds like not worth it? 4y
BrooklynBookGirl @Hazel2019 it was very, very juvenile. I‘ve heard it hailed as “exquisite” and “beautiful,” but I did not see anything revolutionary about it. Another story about a poor girl with low self-esteem and a boy who cants express his feelings thoroughly. 4y
TheEllieMo Oh, I‘m so glad it‘s not just me!! I do not get on with Rooney‘s writing at all 4y

BrooklynBookGirl @TheEllieMo I feel like I would have loved this book when I was 17, but I do not understand the exaltation that it has received. 4y
TheEllieMo @BrooklynBookGirl I did wonder if it was a generation thing. I‘m in my 50s and can‘t recall ever feeling the way Rooney‘s characters do. 4y
mkinney10 SO glad I'm not the only one! I finished it waiting for something to change, but it didn't! 4y

Well, I finished An American Marriage yesterday, so I thought I might as well ride the wave. I really like Ann Patchett, and I had purchased book talk tickets to see her in September from Greenlight Bookstore, but (coincidentally) I came down with the flu. My copy sat at Greenlight for several months, until my sister-in-law picked it up. Why not? It‘s not like I had plans.

I haven‘t read in ages—haven‘t had the want or desire to, but today I decided to pick up an unread book from my shelf. I miss my book club that I neglected, I miss seeing people in real life. I miss it all.

Sitting in the Charlotte airport, waiting on our flight to Rome. TRYING to read this book that‘s been on my book shelf since 2015. It‘s not so good 😑

LapReader 😭I read it for my book club and loved it. There is a movie too. 5y
laur89 Parts of it I really enjoyed, but overall it was a bit meh to me (the word choice used was a bit lost on me). Stick around for the end though! 5y
Hooked_on_books I didn‘t love this one. I found the writing style and characters odd. 5y

You know, I‘m not really a rom-com, chick lit kinda girl, but I liked this one. Cute, interesting, and I like how the main character was autistic and the hero of the book.

I can‘t believe that it‘s almost been two months since our wedding!! We had a “post-punk” wedding, with a lot of Talking Heads and Violent Femmes references. As fun as it was, I‘m glad that the planning and writing checks are done for a while! 😍🤗😍😍💜

I am very confused how this book got stellar reviews. The first one hundred pages were awesome, but then it lost me. I know that this will be a very unpopular opinion.

mom2bugnbee Not every book is for every person! I bailed on The Underground Railroad, also an unpopular opinion. Life is too short to read books that don't speak to you. Onward! 😁 5y

I‘m delaying cleaning up the apartment, but I AM thoroughly enjoying my winter break. So far, I like Exit West, and it seems like a an easy vacation read. I got my husband some dense nonfiction books for Christmas (not really my jam), so we have been co-reading. #marriedchristmas #books #vacation

Patchett paints a realistic picture of a blended family whose relationship ebbs and flows over decades and through many tribulations. This could have been an easily overwrought novel, but Patchett succinctly, yet completely, connects the step siblings to each other and their own individual stories. A beautiful story of family, shared memories, and empathy. I immediately bought my grandma a copy, it was that good.

Where/when do I do a lot my reading? Why, at the laundromat! This is probably one of my favorite hours of the week because I get to read and be quiet. The white noise of the dryers in the background don't hurt either. So far, really liking my #2030somethingbookclub read!

Bailedbailed

I hate to bail on books, but I really disliked this one for the lack of action, conclusion, and character development outside of the 2 to 3 main characters. I thought it was interesting to split chapters between different geographical points and to frame things within sobriety. However; Buntin could have either blended the line between truth and fiction more for Cat's narrative or been more up front.

It's been a long time since I've posted, but I absolutely LOVED this beautiful book about messy situations. It was the May Pick by the Brooklyn Public library, and I attended a lot of the events that they held in conjunction with the book. Reads easy and with a tongue that illustrates an old school Atlanta that I love and know well. Pick it up!
