The Huntress
The Huntress: A Novel | Kate Quinn
From the author of the New York Times and USA Today bestselling novel, The Alice Network, comes another fascinating historical novel about a battle-haunted English journalist and a Russian female bomber pilot who join forces to track the Huntress, a Nazi war criminal gone to ground in Americabased on a true story. In the aftermath of war, the hunter becomes the hunted Bold, reckless Nina Markova grows up on the icy edge of Soviet Russia, dreaming of flight and fearing nothing. When the tide of war sweeps over her homeland, she gambles everything to join the infamous Night Witches, an all-female night bomber regiment wreaking havoc on Hitlers eastern front. But when she is downed behind enemy lines and thrown across the path of a lethal Nazi murderess known as the Huntress, Nina must use all her wits to survive. British war correspondent Ian Graham has witnessed the horrors of war from Omaha Beach to the Nuremberg Trials. He abandons journalism after the war to become a Nazi hunter, yet one target eludes him: the Huntress. Fierce, disciplined Ian must join forces with brazen, cocksure Nina, the only witness to escape the Huntress alive. But theres one minor fact that might get in the way of Ian's missiona secret that he and Nina share. And the chase for the former Nazi forces them to confront it. Seventeen-year-old Jordan McBride grows up in post WWII Boston, determined despite family opposition to become a photographer. At first delighted when her long-widowed father brings home a fiance, Jordan grows increasingly disquieted by the soft-spoken German widow who seems to be hiding something. Armed only with her camera and her wits, Jordan delves into her new stepmothers past and slowly realizes there are mysteries buried deep in her family. But Jordans search for the truth may threaten all she holds dear.

What an incredible story!!!
3 timelines told from 3 perspectives as post-war Nazi hunters search for the Huntress.
Ian is a British reporter who is spending the post-war years in Europe hunting war criminals.
Nina is a Siberian-born pilot whose only goal is to escape her past.
Jordan is a 17-year-old Bostonian who is trying to figure out her place in the world.
3 very different people pulled together by one woman.

So good! A dark thriller with a fascinating historical plot. What do a Russian bomber pilot (a Night Witch), Nazi hunters and a young woman from Boston have in common? They are all chasing the same enemy, a Nazi predator escaping detection. This book was amazing, hard to put down, beautifully written with characters you grow to love. Highly recommend! #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks #Pantone2023 #OysterMushroom @Clwojick #20in4 @Andrew65

Kate Quinn is so good at these historical novels. I really enjoyed this one about post WWII war criminals. My only complaint was I thought she could have ended it a bit sooner.

This book was hard for me to put down! A storyline that spans over decades/ several characters, it evokes those integral human emotions that are highlighted during strife/warfare - love, acceptance, yearning for something better and making connections with those you love. Ian‘s storyline of losing his brother, Nina‘s fierceness & bold approach to life, Tony‘s suaveness that has a deeper layer, and Jordan, who inspired me to find my inner j bryde!

A little bit predictable. Well written and characters that are developed ok l, they could be a little more. The story is split between 1950s Boston and WWII Europe. A trio of Nazi Hunters are searching for a ruthless female murderer. There are also love stories. There are twists, they are a little predictable, and some action.
Recommend.

Now I have read my first Kate Quinn I can honestly tell you it won‘t be my last.

I would recommend this to historical fiction fans. I certainly learnt a lot about Russian women and their involvement in WWII and what more can you ask a book for but to improve your understanding of the world.

I had a hard time rating this. I loved the character of Nina, who was a member of the Russian “Night Witches” in WWII. I had never heard of them, but will definitely be reading more about them. The other characters were a bit stereotypical, which knocked the book down for me. Not a bad read, but I only kept reading it for the story of Nina and her role in the Night Witches. I‘m off now to read more about the Night Wiches!

Finished this one back in December. It was my bookclub pick for Q4. I really enjoyed The Alice Network and wanted to read another by Kate Quinn. This one could‘ve been shorter, but overall I enjoyed reading it. The story was compelling and the parts about the Soviet women pilots in the war were quite good. If you like historical fiction, this is a good one.

This is my 2nd book of the #roll100 challenge. I was completely engrossed in this historical fiction tale of the hunt for a female Nazi war criminal. The background on the Russian pilots known as the Night Witches was fascinating and Nina will be one of my favorite characters for a while to come. I also went down a rabbit hole looking up the female photographers of the era mentioned. This is the first Kate Quinn I‘ve read but not the last!

Kate Quinn always manages to write something unique & magnificent. I was hooked from page one and, though I more or less understood where the ending would take me, couldn't put it down. Strong female protagonists are her strength, but all characters in The Huntress are rich & vibrant. The plot is executed fabulously in a multi POV style & focused a lot on post WWII. An intriguing read that I devoured over the course of just a couple of days.

Entertaining, but too Hollywood mainstream for me. Kate Quinn brings together all the ingredients to build a bestseller, leading to unrealistic characters (too good to be true), and to a manichean vision of history... Book recommendations: Hunting the Truth by Serge and Beate Klarsfeld / The Man with the Miraculous Hands by Joseph Kessel / Sulfuric Acid by Amélie Nothomb ;)

Fun fact: Most of the books I own I haven't read yet. I rarely keep a book after I read it: either I give it to a specific person that I know might like it, or I donate it.
The books in good condition that I read will go to the Cody library in San Antonio, Texas to enrich their collection ;)

Kate Quinn is fast becoming a favorite author of mine. This was a gripping read about a band of Nazi hunters searching for "the Huntress" in the 1950s. The band consists of a former war reporter, an interpreter, and a former "night witch", one of the Soviet women pilots/navigators who fought on the front lines of the Eastern front.

It was less intense than The Alice Network or Rose Code, but still enthralling with great characters.

I enjoyed this historical fiction about hunting Nazis after WWII, but not as much as I thought I would. The story of the hunt for the titular character is told in three POVs, which I generally like, but I didn‘t really connect with any of them. Still, the story was well-told, so I‘m going with a “pick.”

I recently learned about the Night Witches and wanted to read some more about them. However, there are very few nonfiction books about them (thanks Cold War). This book was on every list I found, so I picked it up to see if there were any references listed (and there were!!). I absolutely loved the story! One of the best historical fiction books I've ever read! It had everything! A mystery, murder, Nazis, Nazi hunters, a Night Witch. 5/5

This book was amazing! I like that it takes place shortly after the Second World War, when everyone was busy trying to forget it ever happened and move on, not wanting to look too closely at all the injustices that had happened. It‘s also interesting to talk about the Soviet Union side of things; I feel like that often gets overlooked.

In 1950 a group of Nazi hunters: an ex war correspondent, an ex army interpreter, and an ex Nightwitch, are tracking down a war criminal known as die Jägerin (the Huntress).

It was so obvious who the Nazi was at the beginning, I thought there would be a twist whereby she wasn't, so for a lot of the book I was reading it in the wrong genre. As a result Nina's back story during the war was much more interesting than the 1950 sotryline..
