pickHaving read Bear Town a couple months ago, I wanted to anticipate this book for a while. Although I preferred the storyline in the first book, It was still nice to curl up with these much loved characters to read their lives continue. ...I wouldn‘t recommend this book to those who haven‘t read the first because the character development in the original is so important to the sequel.
pickOnce again Backman eviscerated me. The sequel to Beartown was just as powerful and heartbreaking. Benji owns me heart and soul and it comes as no surprise that I cried multiple times while reading this. This is also a testament to Backman's translator who was able to so effectively translate his words. Backman is easily a top 5 author for me. I cannot wait to see what he writes next.

panEverything I loved about Beartown was just beaten to death in the sequel. I finished it out of love for the characters, but really just wish Backman had left it alone. All of his insightful observations about human nature grew tired very quickly this time around. Very disappointed. #audible #audiobook #unpopularopinion #nosequelneeded 🏒🏒🏒
panIt pains me to say this but this was NOT GOOD. The definition of an unnecessary sequel. The author just uses the same language & plot points like in Beartown, except this time without the deeper meaning & the emotional effects. A huge part of the book is just repeating events that happened in Beartown until I was tired. There is a lot of unnecessary violence and the new characters just didn‘t make me care so much.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about this sequel so far. I absolutely loved Beartown and was really looking forward this. At this stage, it's been nothing but rehashing what happened in Beartown. It's just not working for me, and I am terribly disappointed. Can anyone tell me that it has anything new to offer?
pickThe starting of the book felt like there was no concrete storyline. But in the end , everything seams up beautifully ❤️
Hockey is not just a sport in Beartown, it defines who you are.

panPerhaps this #audiobook would have drawn me in more if I had read Beartown first. I found much of the writing to be cheesy and clichéd, rather than emotionally moving. Oh, well. ?♀️
pickI am always wary of follow up books or sequels, but this one lived up to the hype of the first book in the series, Beartown! I highly recommend these two books to ANYONE, even if you are someone that is strongly opposed to hockey or organized sports. The author has created beautiful characters and a vivid setting and his writing draws me in to the point where I don't want to put the book down until I am done!
It's hard to believe the year is half over! I've read quite a few great books so far this year but this is my #Top6Reads for the first half of 2019. Looking forward to many other great books in the second half! Thanks for the idea @Cinfhen
so-so⭐️⭐️⭐️ Overall, I liked this one, but not as much as I loved Beartown. I think the writing was a bit cheesy after a while but I did like revisiting the characters and see how the events of the first book affected them after some time has passed.
I‘ve really enjoyed some of his other books but I‘m not sure about the subject of this one...
panAfter slogging my way through this, I have come to the conclusion that whatever most people see in Backman‘s writing, it escapes my notice. This follow up to Beartown is so interminably dreary, it‘s like swimming through treacle. 1⭐️
pickI liked this book but enjoyed the first one more. It took me a while to get into this one.
pickA friend from college used to say “It ripped out my heart, threw it on the floor, and did the tango on it.” This book is a lot like that. But so good. I feel like Fredrik Backman portrays everything so well: people, places, communities, careers, families. And so many of his observations are spot on. I grew up in a small town where my father was a high school coach, and was practically yelling “Yes, this!!!” throughout the entire book.

bailedI made it to page 63...longer than i should have. Ive read two of his other books and loved them. I really didnt like the writing style in this one. The characters changed every paragraph. It was annoying. Nope had to bail.
Being a mother can be like drying out the foundations of a house or mending a roof: it takes time, sweat, and money, and once it‘s done everything looks exactly the same as it did before. It‘s not the sort of thing anyone gives you praise for. But spending an extra hour in the office is like hanging up a beautiful painting or a new lamp: everyone notices.

pickI had some mixed feelings about this book...this came up in Beartown too, but Backman‘s “life lessons” that he started every chapter with struck me as a bit cheesy/preachy and could be pretty annoying. But! I loved the characters in this book, especially those who displayed such courage and kindness in the face of violence and hate. There was also a very emotional, uplifting ending, which was appreciated after the tragic events that took place.

pickThis is a book you want to savour, but also devour. The small town mentality that is examined in Bear Town is put under a microscope in this book. And yet, despite not coming from a small town, I can connect. Backman has an eloquence in his writing that I haven‘t seen in a long time. He deals with many sensitive issues and perspectives with tact and heart. I cannot express how much I love this book and Bear Town.

pickWOW. I wrote to the author to tell him how I felt about this book, about Beartown, about its citizens and his characters. I fell fast in love with them! And all the time I was reading and couldn't put the book down, I dreaded its end. Someone said it reminded her of Friday Night Lights, that it was a book about so much more than sport - and it surely is. It's a book with heart about a community full of heart, and I can't recommend it enough.
pickI‘ve love all of his books so far. This follow up to Beartown is no exception. His writing style follows a certain cadence that is beautifully told.
I probably won‘t be staying up till 2:30am, like I did with Beartown, but I‘ll definitely be finishing this gem tonight!
pickBackman can be a little sappy at times, but he‘s very good at navigating all the intricacies of small town life, both good and bad. I love the way he tackles issues of gender inequality and lgbt rights without being preachy, too. You are moved by these characters and their situations because they are so relatable.
