I mean, was Death of the Author a better book? Probably. But the newest Vera did not disappoint! She's a delight.
Apparently I'm all about comfort reads lately... (Looking at you, Kate Daniels...)

I love Vera Wong!!
Vera is inquisitive, meddling, intelligent, bold, and funny. She likes acting like a helpless old lady, but doesn‘t like being one. She‘s also curious, confident, outgoing, and not always politically correct.
The story captures the characters and the cultural lifestyles and traditions of the group. The plot has some twists and turns, but this story is about more than solving a mystery.

This was a super cute, quick and fun read.
My only complaint is the overuse of eye rolling 🙄 mentioned every other paragraph for a bit. It was noticeable enough it actually took me out of the story.
I wish more of the old gang were in it, but it would have gotten too crowded; and the new characters were great.
I recommend this, especially if you liked the first one. #bookcover #grannysquare #readingblanket2025 #bookblanket

Caterina I'm so intrigued by your granny square reading blanket, but it sounds dangerously tempting - I'd need quite the array of yarn to try it out, and I already have too much! 🫣 I hope you post a finished pic at the end of the year! 1w

Last night I tried this bourbon to see if I like bourbon 🥃. 🤷
I‘m liking this second book a lot but if I took a shot every time someone rolled their eyes I‘d be passed out in less than an hour.
It‘s noticeable enough that it took me out of the story. ☹️

Ruthiella And do you like bourbon? 🥃 1w

This story was fun and over-the-top as I‘ve come to expectations with Jesse‘s books. Perhaps my biggest suspension of disbelief though is placing Vera at 61 🤣. I looked up Jesse‘s age (37) thinking surely she can‘t be more than 22 to write a 61 yr old as she does. Nope, and she knows why she‘s writes Vera‘s age as such! Aside from cozy murder there are some serious elements that must leave a lot to consider when writing comedy.

Aims42 I think I heard that Jesse based Vera off of her own Mother 😃 Plenty of inspiration there lol 2w
willaful As someone who is rapidly approaching that age, that cover makes me go WTH?! 2w
marleed @willaful @Aims42 I‘m always curious the of an author when they write someone in their early 60‘s so elderly🤣 and only wish that I can be around when they are in their 60s to read them write that age as a contemporary. (edited) 2w

Don‘t read this book while hungry. I really want dumplings now. This is funny and heartwarming but has a very dark resolution to the mystery.

#TopReads2025 for April belongs to the one and only Vera Wong ☕️🫖🔎 “Vera Wong‘s Guide to Snooping (On A Dead Man)” was fun and while on a bit darker side compared to her first book, still the same old, fabulous Vera! I hope we haven‘t seen the last of her!

nanuska_153 Do you know if that Tartufo is a retelling or related at all to Moliere's play? 3w
Aims42 @nanuska_153 I just did a super quick search on Moliere‘s play Tartuffe and I don‘t think it‘s related at all. Sorry about that 🫤 The book was really funny though if you‘re into wacky characters lol (edited) 3w
nanuska_153 @Aims42 oh of course, it's Tartufo like the mushroom. In Spanish they are called the same. Well if it's funny and with wacky characters it does have things in common with Molière 😅 Looks good, will check out if the library has it. Thanks! 3w

1. Yes, I think less than 500 now. Maybe less than 400. I purged a lot before I moved, but didn‘t have time to recount. As soon as my library gets here, I plan to update my library spreadsheet & reorganize. .

2. Tagged!

TheSpineView 400 is still a lot to move long-distance. Thanks for playing 4w

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Jesse Q. Sutanto sure knows how to write from the heart! This is comfort in a book, although there is a sinister undercurrent to the mystery. It feels like Vera could burst off the page and into your own house, armed with freshly-brewed tea and home-cooked food that‘s been prepared with love and served with a side of judgement. I really hope the ending is setting up a third book!

I adore Vera Wong and this cozy mystery series. It makes me yearn to be part of Vera‘s adopted family. She is good-naturedly nosy and manages to fumble her way into trouble and into the solution to the murder. This series is a murdery book hug and I am here for all the hugs. (Also, April‘s #bookspin)

I loved meeting Vera Wong in book 1 and am delighted there is a book 2, in which she is back and just as much of a hoot. There is a part of this book that is serious and heavy, but overall it is a delight and I sure hope to see Vera and company again.

Aims42 I hope there‘s more from Vera too! 1mo

This book… words cannot articulate how much I love Vera and her ragtag, found family. I told myself to pace myself with this book and what do I do? Pause all other activities to sit and finish it 😂 You try saying, “No” to Vera 🤣 Highly recommend for a feel-good story that holds your attention from beginning to end, with some giggles along the way. I hope there are more Vera adventures!!!

I am so excited that not only is there a new locally owned cafe & bakery near me, IT‘S WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE OF MY LIBRARY!!! Guys. I have found my new favorite third place 😍🥰♥️ Today‘s lunch was a turkey & havarti cheese sandwich on fresh made focaccia bread (and it had sliced green apples on it, my favorite!!!) along witht an iced lavender latte. The vibes were 10/10, I can‘t wait to become a “regular” here 🤩🤩🤩

Leftcoastzen Wow , that looks delicious! 2mo
Aims42 @Leftcoastzen it was!! I ran out of room to try their baked goods, next time for sure!! 2mo

I do love Vera. And one of the best scenes was her in the Robin‘s principals office.

But TWs (I‘ll put them in the comments with the spoiler alert because one does directly relate to the plot)

Another fun cozy mystery from author Jesse Q. Sutano. I enjoyed this one even more than the first Vera Wong book. Vera seemed a softer and more likable character this time. She gets involved in the current mystery by talking to a stranger. Vera has a way of drawing secrets from people. I liked all of her new suspects and how she learns to use social media. The ending made me feel happy.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher.

Aims42 Eeeeek! I can‘t wait for this!! It makes me happy to hear you liked this one more than the first one because I realllllly liked the first one too 🤩 3mo
