Comfort re-reading of the best kind! I so empathize with Cath's awkward entry into university, as an 18 year-old who also preferred to stay in fictional worlds as much as possible and struggled in my first year to make real connections. I read this now with nostalgia, and also with admiration for how Rowell writes the relationships between Cath and her parents, each difficult in its own heartbreaking way. Is this book a favorite for anyone else?
OMG ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Why did I not read this sooner! It was so cute, sweet, adorable, all the feels. And do I need another Levi obsession?! Apparently I did because he totally stole the show in my opinion ❤️. I‘m a fangirl and I obsess as well (if you haven‘t noticed me and AOT… and Levi), so this was also so relatable. Loved it completely.
On the second last book with 3 days left. Doing well clearing the pile.
I‘m two hours away from a ten day vacation, and the question is… do I have enough? Probably not. Also taking my Kindle, earbuds for audible and my currently reading.
I‘ve forgotten 90% of the plot - but the idea of an emergency dance party has never left me…
I just preordered this for my daughter (she‘s in her 30s) for Hanukkah/Christmas
It‘s out in November https://www.bookwormomaha.com/rainbow-rowell
Good book. I think I missed a decent amount of it without realizing it because of how tired I was when I read this at night, but the parts I actually remember were good! I found it interesting how different the Simon Snow books were in this than how they ended up being. 4⭐️
5✨ This was such a cute story! Twins Cath and Wren are on their way to college. Cath is a Fan fiction writer who loves Simon Snow (Similar to Harry Potter) to an extreme fan girl status. Wren not so much as she embraces college life. There are many trials, boys, and scary situations throughout this book. It was an absolute joy to get lost in.

There are many allusion referencing popular modern culture in the book of “Fan Girl“ am example Cath says that she cannot cut her hair like wren because i couldn't single white female my own sister an allusion to the film starring.
A allusion in the book fan girl is “I couldn‘t single white female my own sister” the allusion is to the film starring Bridget Fonda and Jennifer Jason Leigh.
Rainbow Rowell writes books that make me feel a little better about life in general. The characters feel like real people to me - awkward and imperfect and trying to find their way through life - and though they deal with heavy and hard situations, they keep going and carry on. I‘m sure Rainbow will eventually write a book I don‘t enjoy as much, but she hasn‘t let me down yet.
When I need a laugh and a lift; I always turn to Rainbow Rowell.
Mediocre. The power was out so I read them but they didn't thrill me. Teen me would have loved Fangirl at the time but it doesn‘t hit the same at 31. Second Black Widow had less set up and drag time than the first and was much better for not having two teens drooling proclaiming themselves soul mates 2 seconds after they meet but also ghost boyfriend loses points. Especially when it ends ghost brother too.
Fangirl is my favorite RR book, and this picks up when curmudgeonly Reagan is 38 and dealing with the pandemic. A heartwarming romantic short story featuring Jell-O salad. Rainbow + Rebecca Lowman = Christmas perfection!
Plus I was glad to find out what happened to Levi and Cather! 🥰🎄
Free with Amazon Prime. Inexpensive if you want to buy. 💚
Time for presents! 🎁
Not quite what I was expecting from a RR short story.
It‘s interesting to read stories set in COVID times - Reagan, has spent the pandemic being as careful as possible, but has decided to spend Christmas with her recently widowed Grandfather. It‘s about social isolation and how it affects you. It‘s set over two Christmases - and features some sort of jello dessert that you probably have to be American to understand.
Taking a mini Outlander break to read Rainbow Rowell‘s new holiday short story. It‘s not actually available to tag here, but tagging the next best thing.
I really enjoyed the main story of Cath and the events surrounding her. For me, there was far too much Simon Snow, though. I skimmed over almost all of the Simon Snow writings in the book. This is what brought my rating down by a quarter star. I did come to quite like Reagan. I loved Luke! There were some serious topics in the book, but it‘s still a lighthearted book with humourous bits thrown in.
Remember a few days ago when I said I wanted have a spot to #shelfie and Zoom? This is why!

Can you tell it was recorded right before Halloween? I've got my favorite Pumpkin necklace on, Claire is dressed as a Starbucks barista and Manda is Gamora.

This was fantastic! Cath is so sweet, but not always soft, and—at least for me—her semi-recluse first semester of college is super easy to relate to. I also felt grateful that Rowell chose not to go a pathway of tearful family reunions, but still found ways to create emotion and interest for the entire book. In short: READ THIS ONE!

Day 5 - #SlowBurn
The only couple I can think of with this prompt is the one formed by Levi and Cath ❤ I miss those characters, maybe I should do a reread 🤔
I've been sick with a sinus infection for several days. THERE'S A SILVER LINING - screens make my head hurt so I've been making my way through my TBR. Fur babies and easy reads ftw.
There is just something about Rainbow Rowell‘s writing that draws me in. Her characters have a Dawson‘s Creek quality to them that I just love. In this book, Cath is a huge Simon Snow fan (Harry Potter) and writes fan fiction that has generated many followers. Now she is JUST trying to navigate college despite suffering from pretty severe anxiety. Add to that, an absent mother, a twin who wants space, and a bipolar father. Oh, and Levi!!!!
This was a cute read, and I loved having it as an audiobook because it was super easy to remember the characters and where I was at.
We follow Cath on her journey into young adulthood where she is living away from home for the first time, in a dorm room, being challenged to write more than fanfiction and also perhaps finding a love interest...?
I would 100% recommend this to college students because Im sure they could relate on numerous levels.
This book took me straight back to being a nervous 17 year old sitting in my Louisiana Hall dorm room and not knowing how to even start understanding college & the whole summer of 2008. Vivid memories of waiting for the last Twilight book, scouring the internet on my brand new white MacBook, and the pure excitement of knowing my life was about to reach levels that my small town would never have given me. ✨ #fangirl #yareading

Fangirl - I love Rowell‘s writing. She just has a way with words. Admittedly this is only second book of hers I‘ve read. I don‘t normally read YA, but I did enjoy this book (except for the interrupting Simon sections). Cath grew as a person through the book which is what I look forward to in characters. Levi was such an amazing and even character. Wren while a secondary character also was improving at the end.
This was cute, light-hearted read. I really related to Cath and her social anxiety quirks. This was a good depiction of a freshman year in college, trying to figure out your way in a whole new world. I liked the slow burn romance aspect and the family dynamics. Plus it was fun to have little snippets of Simon and Baz since I've already read their later story.
