That's a hell of an opening. 10/10.
Another year, another start to library book club. This is our January pick!

Another beautifully written book. Short and sad and magical. I really enjoyed this one 💜
I purposefully waited to read this to give myself space from having studied Great Gatsby so many times in school.
It did not work. I'm probably forever all great gatsby-ed out. Even with the (interesting) changes offered here, I was just very bored.
The writing is absolutely beautiful, though. I will definitely check out Nghi Vo's other works.
This one has a super interesting premise. Really enjoyed the initial chapter 💜
Buddy read with @BookKenz
We guessed a lot of it pretty early, but the storyline made us question ourselves a few times.
Lots of fun and very different from the other one I've read from her ( In a dark dark wood- I enjoyes it too 🙂)
Looking forward to reading more from this author!
I really liked the premise of the story and the writing was easy to read, but I was bored out of my gourd in the first 50 pages. The outcome was also extra obvious very early on with how the story was being told.
Kicking off my spooky season reads (late) with this one. I loved The Woman in Black and didn't care for The Most in the Mirror.
So far, I'm really liking this one.
☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️
I wasn't supposed to tear up so early. Oh, thats so heartbreaking.
Time to have my heart ripped out if others are to be trusted!
This one was silly and sweet and just what I needed to kick off my vacation. Definitely want to look into the rest of the series!
This has the best opening I've read in a long time. So great!
This book was absolutely fantastic. Beautiful writing and a great story! 5 out of 5 uncommon stars ✨️
Diving into this series now. Super interesting beginning and very very dark. The artwork is just fantastic 🔥🔥
A beautifully written short story retelling. I also just adore the cover of this book.
Reading this one for the library book club. Have to say I'm not loving it.
Women in STEM? YES.
Women in STEM but mostly about the relationship with a man? Yawn.
Does it get better?
The third in the series. I'm really enjoying these books for the light entertainment value, though there are surprisingly touching moments throughout.
Not much Poirot in this Poirot, but chugging along none-the-less.
Getting ready to join in reading sprints with this one.
A daddy long leg just tried to climb up my leg and I screamed bloody murder so I'm sure that's a good sign. 😂😂😂
I didn't like how this started but by the end of the first part I thought it was an interesting way to introduce the characters of the story.
Guess it's time to start collecting Christie books (minus the spy/thrillers that I haven't liked).
This release is a bindup of the first 2 volumes of Saiyuki. I enjoyed this immensely and I can already feel myself being sad over the fact that there are only 9 volumes (in this first part, not including reload, gaiden, etc).
All the characters are great but Hakkai in particular....yes. 💜
Honestly kind of a letdown to an overall amazing idea. I loved a couple of the characters and that made the not so grear parts all the more frustrating. Still, it's only 21 volumes so it could have been worse.
4 volumes to finish this one. Gonna knock it out today. Not loving it as much as I thought I would but I'll see how I feel at the end.
Also, the cover for this one is gorgeous. 😍
Finally got around to reading this one for book club. Not what I was expecting, but I really liked it!
On volume 4 now. Not the best series I've read so far but enjoyable enough. Hoping something hooks me in soon but it's only 21 volumes so 🤷♀️
This series is up next. The idea behind it is so wild and I'm very intrigued about where this is going. Plus the different covers are so pretty 😍
It finally happened. Manga tightened it's grip on me. I'm hooked 💜💜💜
The book was just as beautiful as the movie. Time for a rewatch.
However, espadrilles is a word I never wanna read again. 🤣🤣
I think it might be impossible for me to read this without imagining Russell Brand's voice.
Anyway, after several letdowns, this is reliably hilarious and introspective.
Very interested in this one. Can't wait to see what it's like!
A resounding MEH.
Started great but lost steam and never recovered.
Always fun to read a book and see how much Disney changed.
I thought the fish sex was what was grossing everyone out. Nope.
Excited to be starting this book! 2 chapters in and interesting so far.
Time for this one. I wasn't a huge fan of Glitterland. I'm hoping for better results here.
Heartbreaking graphic nonfic about a woman's experience being a comfort woman to Japanese soldiers during WW2. Hard to read at times but definitely an important history to learn.
Starting this and very excited about it. I've heard great things.
This was both what I was expecting and exactly NOT what I was expecting. I'm not too good with stream of conscious and soc adjacent books and it tends to be a killswitch for me.
I love this book so hard. Short but fun and packed with the THING I love that Scalzi brings to his writing. Definitely recommend it for a lighthearted romp.
I am ridiculously excited to be reading this. Scalzi has never let me down and I love the premise.
My TBR currently sits at 964. My goal for the year is to get that number below 900. That includes new purchases.

I've just started this and wow it's so good! My copy is nearly falling apart but if I love it I'll probably invest in one that is in one piece.
Finished this one yesterday. It's not quite what it says it is and is more of a memoir of Totenberg that frequently mentions RBG. Yes, they were friends, but the title and what it implies leaves a bad taste in my mouth when it's really just a memoir of the author's own life. Still had interesting information and I'm glad I listened to it.
Starting this one.
I've been using dice to roll for what books to read next to get through books I've had for so long but haven‘t gotten to. Really is helping me get rid of the tbr 🤣🤣
But anyway, I hadn't planned on being able to finish this but I'm home from work sick. So.
