Shirley Jackson does creepy so so well.
Also, my goal of having fewer than 100 books on my TBR by the end of the year is in danger because of book purchasing. *sigh*

Started last night (I have very little respect for sleep and reading sounded better) and finished this morning.
This one isn't so much scary to me as creepily unsettling. I just love how the language in this book keeps me feeling uneasy.
Absolutely fantastic version of sleeping beauty. I really love when authors take an existing fairytale and completely turn it on its head.
Nevermind the astonishing amount of cat hair. Bastet has been rolling around.
A reread and still fantastic.
I've also decided to keep a running count of how many books I have on my TBR to dace myself. I'd love to have fewer than 100 by the end of the year but we'll see 🤣🤣
I appreciate what she did in writing this but so far I care very little about the actual story. I will push through a little longer on this simply because the writing is lovely and the audiobook narrator is great.
Every single cover of this series is just gorgeous. 🥰😍
Another great volume. This one felt like the longest case in this series yet. I really enjoy manga as a medium for mystery/whodunnits. The illustrative element adds so much.
Stormy outside, cozy inside.
This one is so good so far. I love T. Kingfisher's writing.
I liked it. I think. It'd probably take a second read to figure out if i love it.
I've heard fantastic things about this one! Looks like it will be a quick read. But that cover 😍😍😍 so weird and wonderful.
I really enjoyed this book but didn't realize until the end that we wouldn't get a wrap up some key points and that there would be a sequel... that doesn't seem to be out yet.
But I did enjoy this one.... it felt kinda like cozy fantasy but with distinctly more plot than they normally have. Will definitely pick up the sequel and I dearly hope Sybilla shows up again.
This one is actually a little sad for me. I like the writing and the characters are fine, but I can't latch on and care about the story. I don't really know how to explain that I really liked all the parts of it, just not the overall product. I still have Anxious People to try and it sounds far more interesting to me overall so I'm still looking forward to it.
This is the rest of my reading pile for June. Can I finish it? We'll see. An awful lot of this month was taken up by manga, but I've still made a sizeable dent in the novels I'd put aside to read.
Everything about this manga seems like I should love it. Unfortunately, three volumes in and I still don't like it. I'm just not interested 😭
I'm absolutely loving this series. The artwork alone is absolutely STUNNING. As a librarian, I'm happy to find any series with librarians front and center, but this one is just so so good.
I'm really loving this series! It's such a good take on vampires and doesn't shy away from morality, ethics, or how dangerous the vampires (or devils here) can be. No fluffy easily controlled creatures here.
I honestly wasn't expecting to like this series as much as I am. But creepy santa lore is apparently catnip to me.
The art in this one is GORGEOUS and is definitely carrying it for me. The story is very much a love story and is just okay for me for now. It's only 10 vols (or 5 omnis) long so definitely doable still.
Reading this one for my book club and having a rough time getting into it. There have been some great lines but the overall plot is throwing me off. This the the first Backman book I've read (tho I bought and am looking forward to Anxious People).
Anyone already read this and loved it? Do I just need to give it some time?
The distinct misfortune of being attracted to your own husband against your will 🤣🤣🤣
1. Case File Compendium 5
2. Stand alone.
Yes I know the preorder was a series lolol. I take more chances on stand alones, especially if it's a trusted author. Series I'm likely to let a few come out first.

116 pages in. Don't care about the political storyline but really like the two main characters.
Unsettling and surprisingly hard-hitting for a 96 page novella.
A novella for the evening. 13 pages in and the writing is A+. Glad I also have I Was a Teenage Slasher.

I was expecting to love this book but 200 pages in and I was just honestly bored. The writing was lovely, but it felt lovely in a way that I was kept at a distance. I didn't feel anything for the characters. With so many other books that I'm looking forward to, I've learned to DNF as an act of self-care 🤣 Love that so many do adore it tho.
I finish one chonker to start another chonkier chonker.
5 stars. Fantastic story. A top read. I cried. I cheered. I LOVE MISAKI. Fully realized characters, human reactions, growth. Absolutely stunning novel. Definitely checking out Blood Over Bright Haven.
Made myself a June TBR. We'll see how much I get through.
It's always a good time when she naps and I read.
I started this expecting it not to live up to the hype, honestly. I'm 100 pages in and so far, I'm LOVING it.
Finally finished this trilogy! It's really fantastic. I'm not sure how I feel about the ending right now and I suspect I'll be rolling it over in my brain a lot.
A mild pick. 3.5 or 3.75. I did enjoy it and it was an easy enough read. Graham Gore was a fantastic character and it had some clever writing for him. It didn't make me feel any particularly strong feelings, however. Chose it for my library's book club and can't wait to see what the other members think of it.
Coming up on the end of this series. Two sections left and I've got an inkling how it'll end, but I still wouldn't put money on it. Such a good series, though.
I just love that Ian Malcolm is allowed to have these pages long diatribes. 🙌
Time to revisit this one 🥰🥰🥰
It was.... fine. Fun. LOVED Vintage and Tormalin. Didn't care for Noon. Almost felt like she couldn't compete in terms of character interest. Would have loved MORE done with her personality. But the plot was also just fine. So.... it was fine.
I really enjoyed the first 3 volumes but I started getting very lost in the last 3. The back end of the series got a little too off for me. A solid 3 out of 5, though.
1. Anxiety is a little high and I'm dealing with plantar fasciitis, apparently.
2. Staycation through Memorial Day. I'm a librarian and Summer Reading is coming up fast so I'm taking 10 days to stay home, breathe, read, and take a break from people.
