pickA story of two friends and the search for the truth about ExtraOrdanarys, and the different paths they take they fallow because of it. With a lot of interesting science and two compelling characters (victor and Eli) it keeper me interested the entire time I definitely recommend it
My first book bracket! It was tedious to make and difficult to choose, but I can now say with confidence that the best book I read in 2024 was Vicious 🖤 That said, I love every book pictured here 📚🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟❤️

pickOooh I love sociopaths, especially when one has a God complex and they try to justify murder. The writing is fantastic and the plot was fun. I had a hard time putting down this paranormal, time jumping masterpiece. VE Schwab has done it again. Book #71 in 2024

pickA gripping tale of heroes and villains, with a dark look at the morality of the pairing. What makes a villain villainous and a hero heroic? Is it just a matter of perspective, or something more? Victor and Eli are a compelling pair, with a richly drawn history and that perfect split that makes nemesises. Schwab keeps the suspense ratcheted tight with changes in timeline and point of view, and every moment and character counts. I loved it!
I like this exchange. It's so simple, but touches on something so big. This idea of the femme fatale, or how female beauty is itself dangerous. An idea that has been used as a way to repress and oppress women since... always! Her response, so simple and nonchalant, but so perfect. Superpowers aside, this feels like a bigger statement Schwab is making.
Ok, I know the nice weather isn't going to stick around, but I really appreciate this little spring tease 📚☀️
It's been a long time since I've been this into a book that isn't strictly a horror/thriller 😍🤗

pick“There are no good guys here.” A still fun but darker and more interesting take on how “super powers” come to be. I didn‘t know this was one of two when I picked it up, but I look forward to reading the second one!
Been struggling to find a book that hooks me lately, but excited to give this one a try. It's been on my TBR for a while!
panI think this can be summed up in one simple line from the book. “There are no good guys here.“
Unfortunately, as it would be none of the characters really stand out. There isn't a ton of depth to any one of them which made the book way to easy to predict. No one cares about anyone else but themselves and what they have going on. This means the backstabbing and fighting is easy to predict. Which makes this lackluster at best.

I was surprised at how few books I have read that start with the letter "V". Of those, most begin with the word Vampire! ? What does that say!?!
Anyway, my favorite is Vicious by Victoria Schwab
Yay! Reading to stay awake during late night feeds for a new baby gave me a great advantage for this years challenge lol

pickI loved this - definitely my favorite V.E. Schwab novel to date. I've sometimes felt like her writing style just didn't speak to me, as others seem to rave about her books and I liked them but have never been blown away. This had just the right blend of a morally ambiguous anti-hero who thinks he's the villain, a villain who thinks he's a hero, mixed with the loveable side characters and the promise of more to come.
I seriously need to work on my punctuality!

pickI have been wanting to read this book for a while and will say that I‘m far from disappointed. I loved this book as much as I have almost all of Schwab‘s other works and though none of the characters are your stereotypical heroes, I found myself rooting for them. I absolutely loved this book and very much enjoyed the tense buildup and of course, the epic ending.

She‘d told her to go somewhere safe. And over the course of the last week, safe had ceased to be a place for Sydney, and had become a person.
Specifically, safe had become Victor.
“You think I‘m somehow wrong. Broken.”
“I think we‘re all broken,” said Serena.
There were some people you had to stay away from, people who poisoned everything within reach. Then there were people you wanted to stick with, the ones with silver tongues and golden touches. And then, there were people you stood beside, because it meant you weren‘t in their way.
He lifted his glass. “To never dying.”
Eli lifted his. “To being remembered.”
Their glasses clinked as Eli added, “Forever.”
Plenty of humans were monstrous, and plenty of monsters knew how to play at being human.
“Midnight? As in tonight?”
Victor checked his watch. It was already four. “Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today.”
“I get the feeling that‘s not what Thomas Jefferson meant,” muttered Mitch.
“You‘re the hero…,” she said, finding his eyes, “…of your own story, anyway.”
