Must Buy! for mystery/thriller fans. I‘ve been a fan of Harding since The Party came out. Her newest book is captivating, well written, and different from the other mystery/thrillers out there.

I wanted to like this more. In fact, it started off great! And each twist just made me like it less. I'll have a full review up on the blog soon. But this just didn't do it for me. 2.5 stars.

RadicalReader @bookcoverjudge such an awesome photo for a book cover seriously skilled!! There is nothing like getting wrapped up completely like a present like how Cindy Lou did along side the Grinch in the How the Grinch Stole Christmas movie but it is so satisfying to get so engrossed in a story from cover to cover then want to read more from the author 6y

I'm about halfway through. It took a few chapters for it to find its footing, but I'm really into this story now. I have an idea of where this is going, and if I'm right, it will be a great twist.

Literally just read the last page. This book has a decent start and end, but fails in places in between. What was to be, I thought, a scavenger hunt for answers was mostly just a family drama story with some mystery thrown in. Very well written, just not what I was expecting. I will definitely check out more from the author in the future, though.

I'm still working on this one. Thought it would be a quick read but the multiple perspectives aren't working for me. I'm at a point where all three stories are incredibly interesting, but I still would have preferred one linear story line.

This book won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I really enjoyed it. Great writing, interesting characters, and a story that takes you over. I was anxious about reading this one at times; I was torn on finding out what happened and staying in the dark. But I mean that in the best way possible. If you're into dark stories, enjoy reading about awful people, & want a different take on friendships, this may be a good choice for you.

Clare Mackintosh is a MUST READ for me. I was incredibly excited for this but felt rather meh overall. I enjoyed the writing, plot was (almost too) slow, and I wasn't the biggest fan of any of the characters (I LOVED Murray though!). Not awful, but my least favorite of the books I've read by her.

I cannot even begging to discuss how amazing this book was. CB does such an amazing job taking four characters, giving them each their own voice (and basically own novella) as well as having an overarching story that brings it all together. I laughed, I cried, I thought about my own hangups with death. I know it's still the beginning of the year but I'll be surprised if something tops this one for me. Must read -- asap!

The Girl Before | J.P. Delaney

Pickpick

I would rate this as a 3.5 really, but I upped it to 4 stars because I thought the writing, overall, was incredibly well done. Delaney does a great job at using the two person story telling and I thought that this book was one of the more successful ones to do that. Beautifully written memoir. We follow Maclear during a year of her life when she is feeling stuck in life and in a creativity rut. She makes a new friend who "guides" her into the birdwatching world. Honest and open, I found this book to be lovely and thought provoking. | full review: https://thebookcoverjudge.wordpress.com/2017/01/23/review-birds-art-life-a-year-...

I loved this book. Funny and so honest. I feel like Mara Wilson was such a huge part of my childhood, listening to this was like catching up with an elementary school friend. I listened to this one and recommend that to everyone. Mara Wilson has a lovely voice, perfect for story telling.

Full review can be found on thebookcoverjudge.wordpress.com. | Ugh. The synopsis of this is so great...and this was such a let down. Good, interesting characters but the development and interactions are not always believable. Lots of minor stories that do not seem to completely interact with the main story. There is an ending but it is completely not satisfying. This could have done with another edit or two.

Horrorstor: A Novel | Grady Hendrix

I totally dug this book. Part comedy, part modern ghost story, this story follows 5 coworkers staying the night at an IKEA type store to get to the bottom of some mysterious happenings. Characters are good, as developed as characters can be when a story takes place mostly over a little over 24 hours. Well written conversations. Creepy in the best of ways. https://thebookcoverjudge.wordpress.com/2017/02/03/review-horrorstor-by-grady-he...

I wanted to like this book, but I was not able to get into it. I forced myself to finish it. The writing style wasn't impressive. The characters were meh. And aside from Grace and Allan, who the reader could emotionally connect with, the characters were surprisingly flat. I forced myself to finish this. And I was meh about all the twists and turns. Find my full review at thebookcoverjudge.wordpress.com

Reviewsbylola I hate when I have to force myself to finish a book. Great picture though! 7y

A Life in Parts | Bryan Cranston

Pickpick

I loved this book. Well written and informative. Broken up into smaller chunks of a full story, Cranston is able to share the various parts of his whole life with us in a beautiful way. I know him from Breaking Bad and the parts discussing this perfect show are my favorites. I also loved hearing about his dad and the crazy adventures of his childhood. Read it. It's one of the best celebrity memoirs I've read. And I will read it again.
