This was a collection of short gothic stories and I absolutely adored them! The stories were very descriptive…so much so that I could imagine the images quite well. Definitely will be reading these again around Halloween 🎃

First story in the book: Sardonicus 💀
Update: guys, this book is soo good!! Creepy gothic horror stories for the win!!! 💀💀
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
How have not known about this fantastic classic author! These gothic tales are so satisfying and dark. I watched the movie Mr. Sardonicus so many times as a kid, I had no idea it was based on a short story. These stories are all equally delicious. Highly recommend! And that cover🖤
All I want out of my day.
Think my boss will understand?? 😅
I love book mail 😁 I think this is from a 6 book collection that Guillermo Del Toro curated. I love horror from creepy to lock the doors & sleep with the lights on. 👻
Lots of medieval torture devices (like the infamous stretching rack) in this gem that also features Jack the Ripper, Mr. Hyde, and the Grand Guignol.
I would say Sardonicus, my fave, is for fans of The Phantom of the Opera & The Picture of Dorian Gray.
#TBRtemptation post 3! A Gothic horror collection of 3 novellas and 4 shorter-length tales, with an foreword by Guillermo del Toro. The 3 novellas: "Sardonicus," considered by Stephen King to be the finest example of modern G.H., about a nobleman cursed with a perpetual rictus; "Sagittarius," think Dr. Jekyll meets the Paris Grand Guignol; "Sanguinarious," the written confession of Elizabeth Bathory. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook ?
Back at home! I had to get up at half five this morning to travel to the airport and now I‘m looking forward to sleep and eat at a regular and healthy pace. I had some bad luck these past two days. Yesterday I slipped on the pavement and fell down. On Thursday I went into the Highlands and missed my bus. I was stranded at Loch Ness and had to wait for 2 hours to get the next bus back to #Edinburgh.

Day 25 of #sizzlinsummerbooks is #supernatural .. Here's a little spotlight of a slightly haunted section of my shelves...
Carrickfergus . My home town for 22 years now! But I'm still Scottish at at heart 💙 there's a lovely marina to the right of the castle. A rare sunny day in Ireland 💖#carrickferguscastle
Creepy, delightfully gothic tales! What a wonderful book!
I can no longer resist the call to read something spooky!!! #spookyreads #halloween #hauntedcastles
I hadn't realized I'd read Ray Russell before. He is sadly overlooked these days but his stories are classic. And we have none other than Guillermo del Toro to thank for bringing his work back to us and making it easy to find again.
This cover!! 😍And a forward by Guillermo del Toro!
