In the Company of Women
In the Company of Women: Inspiration and Advice from over 100 Makers, Artists, and Entrepreneurs | Grace Bonney
I want to rip out every page of this glorious book and hang them on my wall so that I can be surrounded by these incredible women all day long. Emma Straub, New York Times bestselling author of The Vacationers and Modern Lovers Across the globe, women are embracing the entrepreneurial spirit and starting creative businesses. In the Company of Women profiles over 100 of these influential and creative women from all ages, races, backgrounds, and industries. Chock-full of practical, inspirational advice for those looking to forge their own paths, these interviews detail the keys to success (for example, going with your gut; maintaining meaningful and lasting relationships), highlight the importance of everyday rituals (meditating; creating a daily to-do list), and dispense advice for the next generation of women entrepreneurs and makers (stay true to what you believe in; have patience). The book is rounded out with hundreds of lush, original photographs of the women in their work spaces.

An amazing and inspiring book on artists, makers and entrepreneurs. They are all women that worked hard to achieve their goals. They made their dreams reality. This book is full of interviews, and advice.
The photographies are astounding, and the book itself is a great decoration in the house.

This marvelous book contains profiles and photos of 100 creative women in their own spaces, focusing largely on women of color and LGBTQ women. This is not only tremendously inspiring for anyone but a wonderful way for women of all varieties to feel seen. I loved it.

Sarah Neuburger‘s answer to “What did you want to be when you were a child?”

We never know the way we impact others. “One person changed everything.”

I love this.

CouronneDhiver So very true! 7y
Soubhiville Yes! In high school I wanted to be a teacher. My favorite teacher talked to me about it and told me I would be disappointed, that other people- esp kids, don‘t care about education as much as I do. I think he also saw that I was an introvert and that working surrounded by people all day would be bad for me. I respected him so much, I decided to work with animals instead. 😁👍🐶 7y

Real talk: I am overly impressed with myself for making apple cream cheese rose tarts. They were super easy but now I‘m walking around my house like I‘m Julia Child.

And I‘m enjoying “In the Company of Women,” a series of interviews with female inventors, entrepreneurs, and artists. It‘s full of inspiring women and great advice. My current favorite-Roxane Gay: “Be relentless, be ambitious, be excellent.”

I've been a fan of Design*Sponge for years. It was one of, if not the, first websites devoted to creatives and my go-to destination for DIY projects. Now Grace Bonney, Design*Sponge founder, has brought together a beautiful coffee table book full of interviews with inspiriting artists, writers, and creators who discuss how they made it to where they are today. It's a must read for creative women and those who support them. - A⠀

I've been taking this one really slowly and realized this morning I hadn't picked it up in a while. I opened it to this page, with that magnificent hair, just days after taking most of the blue out of my own hair, because I wanted less upkeep. (I still have three chunks.) But her hair has me all 😫. I am still loving this book though.

I was shopping for my secret Santa (not pictured) and accidentally bought some books for myself. Oops. Does my selection suggest to you a subconscious response to the election? Hmmmmm....🤔

LeahBergen I only bought one book when I was Secret Santa shopping! 😂😂 8y

This is a great book. It is full of inspirational women and their insights on success. There are very interesting and famous women in here including Roxane Gay, Issa Rae, Christy Turlington Burns, and Nikki Giovanni. This book shows that women can thrive through any circumstances. Here is my 17 year female cat Nikie who drives me every day to be caring and patient through anything 😻 #imstillwithher #catsoflitsy #petsoflitsy

Reading this book for encouragement on this crazy election night. #imwithher I wish I was as care-free and relaxed as Taz and Nikie right now. I ❤️you Littens cuz it forces me to try to focus on something cuz if I still had my facebook page I would be totally out of control right now. I'm sure facebook is a mess right now. I couldn't deal with it. Well, off to read about positive influential women I go 👧🙅

This is what it's come to, Littens. That is a napkin in my book, because my bookmark collection is down to two. Where do they go?! Just got a tiny way into this one this morning. Trying to decide whether to just read through it or parse it out. Either way, I know I'll be revisiting it a lot in the future for a book hug or kick in the pants.

ElizabethAndino Receipts, old post it's, shopping lists, napkins...I use whatever I can find!! 😂 8y

Last night I got to listen to this panel of brilliant, creative ladies talk about art, business, inspiration and supporting other women. It was definitely needed after this week and I cannot wait to dive in to this gorgeous book. Also, Design Sponge fans, Grace Bonney is as lovely as you want her to be.

Reading was surprisingly emotional for me, as I don‘t think I‘ve seen a book that celebrates such a diverse range of creative women—age, race, size, sexuality, occupation, philosophy—w/ such vibrancy & style. Visibility & women supporting & inspiring each other are so important. Writers, chefs, artists, designers, musicians, others who dream of running their creative businesses will see themselves reflected in this beautiful, powerful book. - Stef

TheNextBook Nothing is better than seeing women support and inspire each other! We are seeing it more and more and that gives me hope. 8y
melbeautyandbooks Yes! We should be each other's support system not competition. 8y
