This was blurbed by Adam Johnson, the author of my favorite short story collection Fortune Smiles, so I knew it would be good. Knight does a beautiful job of highlighting Mobile, Alabama and its bay around the time of the Deep Horizon oil spill. If you enjoy Southern regional fiction (like me), this collection is for you! There‘s a funny story about a foiled home burglary and another about young love on the boat docks that rings so true.

I enjoyed this short story collection set in Mobile Alabama. There is a charm to Michael Knights writing that echoes back to the past. 3 🌟

This collection of short stories gets a pick for two reasons — the quality of the writing and the final story, Landfall. Most of the stories really draw you in, but then they just fail with the ending. None have real resolutions, but it is only in Landfall that Knight deftly handles this lack of resolution.

I‘m assuming by “graphitied,” Knight meant “graffitied.” This seems like more than just a typo though, more like he really thinks it‘s spelled that way and no one corrected it. Picture was just part of my day outside today.

This collection of stories is set where I live and it‘s available on Hoopla, so I checked it out. I hope it‘s good.

Whoever said this was the “busiest reading day” must be nuts. After spending 14 hours in Publix (where shopping was not a pleasure), and cooking all day, it‘s time for a Traveler Grapefruit beer while waiting on one.more.thing. to come out of the oven.

Stories all of a type, but a lovely quick read.

Michael Knight spoke at the Alabama Book Festival. He also read short portions of three of the stories from Eveningland. He should read his own audiobooks, seriously.

Picked this up on a lark and dang do these Bama stories ring familiar! ❤️

I have never read a book that so closely connected me to my roots. I am amazed at this collection and am going to have to buy it when the price goes down.

I guess I should go return it to the library now, since it was due back yesterday.

Each of these short stories (7 in all) is achingly bland & ultimately forgettable. Taking Mobile, Alabama as their setting feels like the only uniqueness but even that fails to rise even to the level of local color.

The raspberry fingers are just to make you look at this book. (And you are totally going to do this the next time you get raspberries, right?)

Knight is in the rare class of writers who are able to put into words the feelings for which, until now, we have had no way to express.

Absolutely loved this story collection from Michael Knight. I read an egalley (Thanks #netgalley) and prefer to read real books of stories so I can choose the length etc. I really like the order and pace and that the final story is long. Not out until March, but put it in your radar or order the galley those of you on those services. A fabulous collection!
