This 5th series entry finds Kim struggling to find a connection between victims seemingly being stabbed at random. Meanwhile her arch nemesis, sociopath Dr. Alex Thorne, a manipulative psychiatrist she put in prison, is still pulling strings…some involving Kim and her estranged mother. There‘s always lots going on in these books, and this one is no exception. Loved seeing more of the dynamic between Kim/mom/Thorne. 5/5⭐️

squirrelbrain You‘re getting near the book that will just devastate you…. Can‘t remember if it‘s 8 or 9 (ish) but it‘s coming…. 8mo
robinb @squirrelbrain Oh no!!!! 😩😩😩 I looked at the blurbs ahead at some point and did see one about a possible big loss…I‘ve sort of had that in the back of my mind ever since. Bummer… (edited) 8mo

#February2024 #BookSpinBingo #SeriesLove2024 #ReadAway2024

DI Kim Stone's, 5th installment is about the murder of Deanna Brightman and Maxine Wakeman. Their stab wounds were very similar so they knew it was the same killer. Dr. Alex Thorne, from the 2nd book in the series, is back in the picture from prison trying to bring Kim down. Kim's mother is attempting parole and Kim tells them she is not ready to be released.

EadieB These are the highlights of this book. You need to read this book in order to get the full picture of what is happening. The book is full of twists and turns which forces me to read until the surprise ending. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. If you love thrillers that you have no idea who has done it then you will love this book. The reading is extraordinary and the writing is delightful! 10mo

Andrew65 @Bookwormjillk Thanks. Have been able to focus on it better today. Hot water bottle seems to help some of the discomfort. (edited) 11mo

Andrew65 @eri.reads Sorry to hear about the RA, another awful chronic condition. Hoping you do get that relief as know what it‘s like with that constant pain. Take things slowly and carefully. Good to see you back. 11mo
Andrew65 @CoffeeNBooks Thanks, it‘s taking each day hour by hour, and then the pain and discomfort getting worse at times especially after each for the next few hours. That has made it difficult to concentrate. But some relief compared to what it was.Hope you are well. 11mo
Andrew65 @Crazeedi Thanks Diane, very much appreciated. Awful when your own body is the thing that fights itself and causes the problem. However we all have our own crosses to bear. Hope everything is good with you. 11mo
Andrew65 @janeycanuck Thanks, fingers crossed the worst is behind me on this occasion. More blood tests in a couple of weeks. 11mo
Crazeedi @Andrew65 we're all growing older with bodies that say it to us. But a life well lived is the goal, and books help us realize that. And this community keeps our spirits vital and alive! Many blessings Andrew. I've struggled with so much too, but I still get to wake up every morning! Hugs 11mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 Hope you‘re feeling better, Andrew!! I‘ve been wanting a hot water bottle for ages!! Especially because my cats monopolize the heating pad!! Hope all goes well with blood tests. @Crazeedi is right….once, years ago, I saw an older woman with a T-shirt on which said “growing old ain‘t for sissies”….at the time I was in my 20s and I thought she was being ungrateful because I knew so many young people who had passed. Now I understand…. 11mo
Bookwomble I hope you're continuing to feel better, Andrew 💖 10mo
Andrew65 @Bookwomble Thanks, a bit up and down, but better than I was ❤️ 10mo

Kim still rocking the stories!! Another great one in this series. The crime is always gruesome with lots of twists and turns and the character/personal stories are great.

Another great book in the Kim Stone series. With each book I enjoy her more and more. I love how she will do what she can for her team and reminds everyone that they function as a team. She amazing! 🌟🌟🌟🌟 #murder2020 19/27 and book 3 complete of #EasterExtravaganza

I so enjoyed this. The big bad from book 3 was back for another twisted mind f***. I was more intrigued by that than the main case that Stone and Co. were investigating but I have found my groove with this series (and reading in general) again. 🙌🏼

RaimeyGallant Good to know 5y
eanderson I‘m reading this one right now! As soon as I saw mention of you know who I was thinking, oh holy crap, this is going to be a wild ride! (edited) 5y

Yes, I am a huge fan! Loved it! The psycho Dr Alex Thorne is back trying to screw up Kim‘s life, even though she‘s in prison. Kim‘s mother is a part of the deal. Strange murders happen, brutal torture. Another great book by one of the absolutely best authors ever!

rockpools You‘ve convinced me! 5y

This installment of the D.I. Kim Stone series saw the return of psychopath Alex. I enjoyed the interactions between her and Kim, the game that Alex was playing. The main mystery was interesting as well, trying to figure out seemingly unrelated murders. This wasn't my favorite of the books so far, but it was still really great!

4 1/2 stars! This is the best novel for me in this series because we get to see the return of Alex the sociopathic psychologist and how she tries to break Kim. I loved the tension and the many twists and turns. I feel like Kim is slowly thawing as a character and person and I'm happy with her character development. I'm looking forward to continuing the series.

There was only one problem with this book - reading this caught me up with the series, now I have to wait for the next one to come out 😖. I can always count on this author to come through and deliver a dark, seedy mystery full of thrills and chills. I just can't get enough. Ms. Marsons, please write fast!!!

True story, and tonight's excuse for why I can't put this awesome book down (and won't be able to until I've finished it 😉). #sorrynotsorry #mystery #thriller

Lwsmith I've not read this series, but it sounds good. Best to start with book 1? 8y
BookDragonNotWorm @Lwsmith Definitely. The books can be read as stand alone, but the author doesn't reiterate all the back story that makes the characters so driven and angsty, so best to start at the beginning for the full picture. Worth it, though 😊 8y
Lwsmith Thank you! Adding to my tbr list... 😁 8y

I read this one at warp speed, partly due to the fact that Marsons is oh so tricky and writes brief chapters that make me keep saying, oh just one more chapter. Before I know it, it‘s after midnight, but honestly I didn‘t care, I had to find out what was going to happen next. Full of plenty of bombshells and shocking revelations, this one was a true page turner and extremely hard to put down.
