I enjoyed this. It surprised me in some places. I read it mainly because it inspired Sergio Leone for a movie he never made.

#SeasonsReadings Day 13: My #CupOfCheer is this porridge with century egg from Tim Ho Wan to steer clear of the Western hot choco or eggnog or frappuccino as expected. 🧚🏼‍♀️🍵 Granted it looks more like a bowl than a cup. 😂🤣😭 So far, still not loving the book. There are a few snippets that make me think, but as a whole, still meh.

I didn‘t appreciate this when I was introduced to it in high school, but I‘m glad I kept my old copy. It‘s grown on me. #secrets #poetrymatters @LazyDays

Growing up in central Illinois, we read this book in school. It‘s a fictionalized account of small town life drawn from the names & dates found on headstones in a graveyard. Told in free verse & based on the communities Masters grew up near, the stories remain as funny, horrifying, surprising, & poignant as ever. And, since we are passing the Spoon River on our trip, I brought it along to read with the family. Love this note about the author!

Possibly the most damaged book in my TBR pile. When she was a year old or so and teething, my daughter kept taking off with this book. It was her favorite teething toy. Hence the folded and ripped cover and bitten edges. On the plus side, I didn't feel bad using a pen to underline and mark up pages as I read. Lol

Today I will be spending time with what I consider to be the greatest volume of poetry ever written 💛 Spoon River Anthology

So here are my final selection of #24in48 books and I even have 16 minutes left before the start! I feel like I might add some other books on the way. I think there might be a free space for some classic here. Not sure yet... But anyway I'm going for a good mix of classic/contemporary/English/Finnish/Poem -literature. I think this will work for me!

There is never a time where I am not reading this one...I will read Spoon River Anthology hundreds of times, dissecting every morsel. 💛📖💛 my absolute favorite.

I visited a used books store today. Found this. Spoon river anthology was one of my favourite books when I was at school. It's been years since I've read this last time. I hope it's as good as I remember.

"At ninety-six I had lived enough, that is all, & passed to a sweet repose."

This book tells the stories of all the inhabitants of Spoon River; murderers, judges, politicians, parents, poor, wealthy, miserable and joyous. It's all in here, told through poetic epitaphs on gravestones. #poemoftheday

This 1915 collection of poetry compiles the free-verse monologues of former residents of Spoon River...from the grave. Each poem is essentially an epithet that gives us some insight into real thoughts and feelings of each former townsperson.
